This movie will always hold a special place in my heart. My husband and I met online. It captured it so well...that impatience to get on the computer to see if his username was in my email or if he was online. We corresponded 98% of the time through IM since we only lived a couple of hours apart. We were both still in school and were part of a larger online friend group who got together a few times a week to play games or to just chat. the two of us hit it off. He would help me with my Math homework and I would help him with his English homework. On weekends we would pick a movie or show on Tv and watch it while chatting about it. We had cell phones but back then calls were only free after 9pm., so on Fridays we would talk for hours on the phone. We met in person after 6 months of talking online (actually the whole friend group we were a part of met up, it was great) We talked online and over the phone for a whole year more before he moved in with me. We've been together 21 years now. 20 of them in person LOL
I honestly like this more than the other Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan romcom Sleepless in Seattle but that one's a classic too! nooo I'm a bit sad the scene where Joe finds out Shopgirl's identity and their subsequent meeting at the cafe got cut :(
Thanks for the great reaction Timothee. just FYI, when Meg Ryan is reading Pride & Prejudice, the cover isn’t based on the movie, it’s based on the excellent mini series adaptation from 1990s, which I heartily recommend.
@mathewmckinnon grey9957 I really appreciate you mentioning that... I had not heard of the mini series before . You may correct me if I am wrong but there are two movies versions with Darcy one with Colin Firth and the other Mathew Macfadyen . I really enjoyed "You've Got Mail" here . This is one of my favorites .
@ There’s actually quite a lot of movie adaptations but Colin Firth isn’t in any of them. He’s the Mr Darcy in the 1990s mini series. I like the film with MacFadyen quite a lot too but I like the 90s series slightly more because to you get to see more of the book adapted and Jennifer Ehle & Firth are my favourite Darcy & Lizzie but YMMV. There’s also a really fun UA-cam series called “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries”
As @@matthewmckinnon-gray9957 said, Firth is in the 1995 mini series. I like it a little more than the movie, mostly because of tone - it's funnier and matches Austen's wit a little more - even though it invents scenes that are not in the book (I am NOT complaining, though - those who watched it know what I mean 😂) I find the 2005 movie a little more overtly romantic and sweet (and I'm not even counting that silly ending scene from the american version), I do like the movie a lot, but to me it's missing a certain dry-ish edge.
@hippiechic6772 he is Mr Darcy in the 1995 miniseries like someone mentioned but actually Colin Firth DOES play Mark Darcy in the P & P adaptation Bridget Jones Diary. My favorite is the 2005 version with Keira Knightly but I highly recommend the mini-series. It gives more depth to the story and more character development.
This movie is a based on the 1940 classic "The Shop Around The Corner", starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan. Some consider it a holiday movie. In "You've Got Mail" Kathleen's book store is called "Shop Around The Corner". While the circumstances are different many major points are the same. Both very good in their own way, and the original is truly an acting classic. A couple points: as already stated here, Joe knew her favorite flower was daisy when she talked about the one her mom embroidered on her hankerchief.. And the reason the sick Kathleen got the strange look on her face when Joe tucked her in and he put his fingers on her lips and they lingered there a moment-the first time they physically touched. And she felt emotions that conflicted her. Look at some of these old films to see some real acting and quality film making.
The cashier is played by Sara Ramirez, who went on to star in Grey's Anatomy (and win a Tony award on Broadway!). These days she's in the Sex and the City sequel "And Just Like That"
Movies that aren't exactly romantic, but have a very important love story: The naked jungle (1954). The Princess Bride (1987). Ladyhawke (1985). Snow falling on Cedars (1999). Come see the Paradise (1990). Quo Vadis? (2001). The last wagon (1956). Guess who's coming to diner (1967). El Cid (1961).
The song Annabelle sings is from the musical Annie (appropriate for her name), which has been adapted as a feature film twice and as a TV movie at least twice more. If you ever wanted to watch, I recommend the 70s version, it's the easiest to find and truer to the source material (Although I love the TV version they put out a few years ago, it's only available through the Broadway HD streaming service)
Hi Tim I really enjoy your "You've Got Mail" reactions and comments . This is one of my favorite movies Ever. I am not from N.Y. but everything about this movie is WHY I Love N.Y. . I appreciate your take on their situation to how things unfolded . This is one of my favorite reactions in your channel.... I could not actually tell if you enjoyed this movie or if it felt to predictable to you . I hope you enjoyed making this reaction . The generational differences between yours and mine are pretty vast but even when I was a teenager I have always been told I have a young soul . Most of my friends I have ever had are younger than me so I get why or how even when I am feeling nostalgic for my past via All of that.... I understand what younger generations mean. Now I will not always agree with other generations but honestly I do not like or agree with possibly most people of my own generation . Wow! Your reactions and comments here for "You've Got Mail" really gave me a deep feeling of nostalgia ....I have always liked the idea of owning a little cozy book store and my sister would have her own little flower shop. "You've Got Mail".... your reactions for this I will watch this one again . Thank you for ending my Saturday night on such a precious note . I Hope you and your family have a Wonderful 2025.
It's one of my favorite films (especially dealing with a bit of Internet culture at the time!) If you need another good romantic comedy, I recommend the 1997 film As Good As It Gets.
"... a cup fo coffee, or dinner... for as long as we both shall live". This is someone who wants a true partner, someone to share the little joys of life and build a future together. I mean, this is the best thing in a good relationship, sharing these moments, enjoying being around each other. They each really like the other's company. Seems so simple, but is so special to have that someone that just by being there brightens up your day. To me this is the second greatest love confession in rom-com history, and my favorite is very similar (won't say which is it not to spoil to anyone reading this comment): people who find that their lives become better when they share them with that person, it all translates to wanting to be together because they genuinely like each other's company, and understand each other very deeply.
The OG Source "The Shop Around the Corner" is a simpler plot. The two main leads are unknowingly penpals to each other while they are bitter rival co-workers to each other as clerks in a little boutique shop. Idk what it would be called in that film but its based off the play "Parfumerie" which is a fancy way of saying Perfume store. The Judy Garland remake "In the Good Old Summertime" takes place in a music store, and the Broadway musical follows Shop around the Corner closely.
I always felt that the success of how well Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan worked together in Sleepless In Seattle probably played into putting them together in this movie. If you’re going to do more rom coms you should put Sleepless in the list.
Another romantic movies: Ghost (Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore). While you were sleeping (Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman). Just like heaven (Reese Withersponn and Mark Buffalo). Pride and prejudice (2005). A walk in The Clouds (Keanu Reeves and Aitana Sánchez Gijón). The Swan Princess (1990) ( Animated). Kismet (1955). Kate and Leopold (Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman).
Too bad the editing cuts off again and again to the point where it makes no sense why some parts were left on the final cut. Please check before uploading them why they cut scenes in the middle of a sentence not letting it play out.
Honestly my least favorite meg and tom movie! He's such a lying manipulative a-hole and she's supposed to fall for that? Ew no.... Just gave me the ick! Joe Verse's the Volcano is my all time favorite meg and tom movie!!!

Highly recommend the original, The Shop Around the Corner.
that would be great
With Gary Cooper.
Technically not the "original" as it's based on a play too. And already had a remake too in "In the Good Old Summertime (1949)"
@mikeonthebox a play and a movie are two different things
~ Gary Cooper is not in this film, James Stewart was ~
Awesome reaction of my favorite Tom Hanks movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Loved You've Got Mail.
Another romcom you should check out is Kate and Leopold. If you love Enchanted then you'll love it.
Joe versus the volcano is also really good

Nice reaction bro

Oh, come on. You have to say the movie, at least. Put it under SPOILER and hit enter a few times? Please.

Glorifying emotional cheating was the 90’s
You should see the original 1940 version Shop Around the Corner with Jimmy Stewart. Streaming on MAX
~ Ditto, better, more charming than this remake ✅

'I was Eloquent!! Shit!!' I need to use that more often.
I like Kate and Leopold, and The Women, both with Meg Ryan
Wow I didn't know until just now this very second that Tom Hanks did a Rom-Com on my birth year:1998 that's awesome haha 😄👏🏻🎥🍼
