This is a great video. I bought a 2018 truck camper from a guy that bought it new and never used it. I bought it two years ago and never used it either until September this year when I went to colorado with it. I did EVERYTHING she told you not to do and I paid for it. Although the camper was never used someone did lay it down with water and it froze on me at some point and the Girard heater blew out just like the picture in this video. I paid $850 for a new unit, $40 for a new faucet, and $20 for a new strainer on the water pump. No other damage. So now I'm a UA-cam certified RV Technician. I also tapped the blown out copper line on the Girard to close the gap then TIG welded it back together using a piece of 14 gauge romex. I air tested it and it held. I did that when I got back from CO. Do what she says and don't take any short cuts. This stuff isn't cheap. Take care.
So stoked this video helped you out! Sounds like you need some FWC swag for your troubles. Email me with your shirt size - eric@fourwh.com - we'll get you hooked up.
Please note that Blow out is not a fool proof method as air can sometime / often times just rides past the water in laying down on the pipes or not fully pushed out. I learned that the hard way twice winterizing my Cabin in the Boone / Blowing Rock, NC by this method and then later I just pushed the Pink Winterizing Bottles down all the pipes and in the drain pipes P Traps. Little extra expense and labor gives us sure shot peace of mind and no frustration to go back to after the winter.
The Girard came with our Airstream and have been very disappointed. We waste so much water getting it hot water and then it’s inconsistent. Looking at swapping it out for a Truma. If only I have known earlier…

Nice job, Melanie!. We will share this with each customer using the new water heater. Thanks!

What about the water in the hot water heater?
while blowing out all the lines, should the water pump and water heater be on? and by doing it this way no antifreeze needed? Great video BTW!
Waiting too long for hot which wastes water. How about in freezing temperatures?
The heat exchanger needs to heat up so it's going to use some water in the process. It has freeze protection
By going to this method, are you then losing 6 gallons of water carrying capacity (which was the hot water tank capacity)?
I think you gain 6G if you turn in the water heater and pump when filling up
This sounds complicated 😕- but I live the Four Wheelers camper!
One question, do you blow the lines out with the water pump on or off?
I have found even if you blow it out and there is no water in the system, it still comes on when it gets cold.
Better options around
Tattoo points to the water flow valve.
Girard blows go with Truma

Garbage, poor customer service, I switched to Fogarty
