Worth noting, the new K2 double boa is really solid and has some neat new features we’ll talk about later.

I'm very much enjoying my lower-BOA boots from last season and am now a convert. It has generally made putting on, adjusting, occasional loosening and retightening for the chairlift ride, and removing the boot quicker and easier. However, I'm curious how they can get enough tension for the upper boot out of BOA without having to spin the thing like 250 times. My upper buckles are very tight, perhaps 5x tighter (or more) than my lower buckles (on previous boots).

I don't get this wrap vs. press argument. Buckles only apply what might be considered a "pressing force" for a moment, when the lever is perpendicular to the boot shell. Once the lever is closed, the buckle is pulling across the boot shell the same as a BOA cable. The vectors are the same.

Cant stop progress. Besides, I keep a set of shells through at least 2 liners over 5 years. By the time I need a new boot they will have this all figured out

The thing I miss about snowboard BOA systems is how effortless it was to adjust the fit. After a run, if the boot felt a little loose, you could quickly and ever so effortlessly tighten it just a bit more. It didn't require a lot of force, and in my case I literally need to carry a tool for leverage just to tighten my boot enough. BOAs was such a convenient feature.

I love my Boa on my snowboard boots. In fact I am eying up a 3 Boa pair next, but they seem like a poor match for a hard boot.
I would much rather set and forget a buckle on a hard boot and get a consistent tightness.

Love my S pros. I would not want Boa on the top buckles though. Between the power strap and those 2 buckles there is no one tension to rule them all barring some clever engineering that I cannot even begin to conceptualize. Maybe for race boots where it’s just fully cranked for 2 minutes before completely unbuckling.

I’m in the market for a new boot. But should I wait until the double boa comes out instead? My current’s boots are fine for now. I’m someone who loves new tech.

I always find myself readjusting my buckles throughout the day because of how plastic reacts to temperature, how I want to ski… and doing it with micro-adjustment is a pain. BOA is more straightforward. I don't have any concern with BOA on the upper because I already ski with one buckle boots such as Salomon MTN, and it works. So unless you are racing, and want to micro-adjust each zone individually, BOA seems to make sense for the vast majority of casual skiers.

BOAs have failed on me in three different ways *on the mountain*: 1) The wires have been accidentally cut by my own equipment - boots useless 2) Ice has formed inside the BOA...boots unsafe to use 3) The BOA ratchet has completely popped out and separated from the housing......deal breaker. I'm sorry, it is simply not a reliable system at all.

Can you crank down the tightness of a boa the same as buckle? I've seen some leavers helping people flip their buckles that's a lot of force is BOA going to be able to come close to that? Would it need to?

    • @OutOfCollective
      @OutOfCollective  22 дні тому

@@danielz7789 yes, I’d argue you can make it even tighter. The nice thing is some of the small touches in the new cuffs allow for a lot better feel on your shin.

More indications of badly fitting boots. It's a reserection of the rear entry boot philosophy: If you make it more comfortable people will think it's better regardless. That's where this is heading...how long was the rear entry thing around, how many are made now.

The ski industry needs pivot and focus on developing boa goggle straps. My head would benefit from being wrapped like a burrito. 🌯
I have heard from designers on TGR that the real performance of boas will be seen in the upper cuff. There’s a thread where Tom from K2 addresses the concerns you have with loss of individual adjustment that buckles provide. I can find it for you if you want to take a look.

i think that BOA lower was to test the durability and introduce the radical change to the people. I think BOA upper is the next logical step. Might take a rendition or two to really get it dialed (i am sure i can't be the first to make that pun).
This makes it awkward cause my boots are pretty packed out and I was intended to go gang busters next season on a new kit but maybe ill keep waiting if I don't like what I see.
If certain boots have ratchet straps as a binding, that is basically a middle ground of a cable and buckle. A boa cable is not far fetched, just has to go through an iteration or two

full boa is too much, definitely for adult boots. for kids boots it might be perfect as then kids can put them on themselves way easier. just worried that when you hit the knobs with say like a ski that they break too easily. repairs are gonna cost way too much on these compared to normal buckles. must say boa boots feel nicer with some padded insoles
