I feel well represented in this one. 🥰 As far as your closing point, last year, I bought my #1 target and spent the majority of my budget within the first 45 minutes, and I didn't regret it at all. As long as you're prepared, know what you're looking for and what you should be spending, it doesn't matter when you buy it. But yeah, it was tough knowing I had 5 days of show left and not much left to spend -- but rewarding seeing only a couple other copies of that 49 Bowman Larry Doby rookie that weren't as nice and priced much higher. I'm rambling.
Oh, this is great for me to hear! I think the main difference for me is that I’m not sure that either of the specific cards I’m targeting will even be in the room, whereas I would assume that there would probably be a few Doby rookies to choose from. I definitely don’t want to find myself in a situation where I’ve spent a good chunk of money and THEN found a grail card. That would be disastrous! I think I’ll be bringing some trade bait to the National as well - not cards I’m necessarily looking to get rid of, but if I need more value on top of the cash I have to reach a grail, maybe a dealer would accept a cash / trade deal. I think another key consideration is that the cards I bring as possible trade fodder will be ones that could likely be obtained again in the future, and the same couldn’t be said for the grail cards I’m seeking. Thanks for your input Skaght! I might have to request my own custom cards from you at a later time! Or I may also request a Greg Maddux artwork piece… 😃

I’m debating the whole business card thing… on one hand, it seems like a good way to get a few more subscribers, but on the other hand, I never started this channel to collect subscribers - I just wanted to meet other like minded collectors and find my hobby “wolf pack” to run with! Also, my crappy business cards PALE in comparison to some of these amazing custom cards! I can’t wait to meet you as well, Adam! I’m sure I’ll find some lodging soon!
As a Barry Bonds completist, I just purchased one of every different Bonds piece I saw. I never attended a National card show. I am glad you boys didn’t catch the completist bug from me. Will do! I’ve thought a lot about collecting focus. I never want to feel “chained” to a list or feel compelled to buy cards that I “need” if I’m not enthusiastically pursuing them specifically. In the case of my Tiffany and refractor runs, I actually do love all of those, so that’s no problem! I love Dufex cards, but I don’t want the entire 94 Pinnacle Museum Collection set, so I decided to just pick out about 20-30 that I thought would be cool to get. There are a LOT of amazing cards out there, and there are a LOT of kind of stupid cards out there too… I wouldn’t want to sacrifice the former for the latter. I also don’t want my collection to take over my living space! 😂😂😂 Thanks for watching, Dad!
Great discussion Fellas! 90's and 00's good stuff will not be easy to find at the show imo. i know im looking for the latter! haha Here is my "tip" for the show that a lot of people dont think about... Buy yourself a brand new "bag" of socks. Put on a new pair in the morning, throw them out when you get back to the hotel room. Repeat the next day(s) you are attending the show. A bonus for those that fly, as you'll have more room in your suitcase for the trip home.
Oh, I have a few cards in the 00s I’m looking for too… they’re just not at the tippy top of my list! I like the “disposable sock hack” for more luggage room!😂😂😂 Thanks for watching!
I’m sure that’s true! Trouble is, it’s impossible to know what’s in them unless you take the time to dig through. The big grail cards I’m keeping an eye out for will likely not be in bargain boxes, so I’m not sure if I want to spend the time digging through them during the first pass, or maybe wait until I check out most of the showcases first. That doesn’t seem very efficient either though, so now I’m paralyzed with indecision! 😂

Me too! Yeah, if the Philly show was anything to go by, it will be primarily vintage and ultramodern, so I’m not too optimistic about finding cool 90s stuff. I’m trying to keep my expectations low so that if I happen to see some cool 90s stuff, it will be a pleasant surprise. And if I happen to find one of my grails for anywhere close to a reasonable price (though I really doubt I actually will see one) then I will be ready to pounce! Thanks, Jeff!

im def. into 90s stuff, i went to the burbank card show in CA earlier this year, i think your brother is right, 90s inserts are actually rare lol and you just dont see alot of booths with it. im going to burbank again in August, hope i see some good stuff.
Yeah, I have a suspicion that much of the low numbered 90s stuff is being held tightly by collectors, so you don’t see them much in dealer showcases. When you do finally see something great and rare, it commands a significant price. Still I’m looking forward to the hunt in a few weeks! Thanks for watching, Matthew!
Usually one dealer dedicated to 90s inserts and rest are scattered amongst dealers but not easy to find across any show i've been to; when I see one on a table or listed I pounce at shows. Even had instances where after my 2nd time around the room at 400+ table shows those dealers picked up inventory from people selling
