    You actually just bumped up my self esteem a bit. I’ve been to two escape rooms and I felt so dumb by the end of both. The others seemed to know exactly what to do and I just stood there, looking around aimlessly. lol! Good to know why. Thank you!

    Yup, or when I'm thrown into a kitchen to do random tasks (with no warning/planning beforehand), it becomes very clear Se is nowhere near the top of the stack. Especially if it's an unfamiliar kitchen and other people are involved. Intj

    I've been in an escape room (under duress). I would say I was ok but I often didn't know where to start (like you said). I also often thought the solutions were silly or didn't make sense 😂 (intj)

    Great observation.
    Long time ago, I participated in an escape game/room. It happened too fast, that my Ni didn't have the time to connect or understand everything, even if I connected 2 or 3 little pieces.
    The ENTP did well, by collecting all info, and after his brother INTJ connected them.
    They knew well how escape game worked, it was not their first time, they did many escape games before. It was new for us INTJ ENTJ.
    I don't function well when I know something is timed. Under stress, I can say bye to my Ni Te.
    I recognize my fellow Ni dom often, our eyes catch each other, smile at each other, we recognize each other. It's like we are from another dimension. We instant connect, there is not this physical barrier.

    So true, I just walked around pretending to be trying to solve things as I aimlessly moved objects around, trying to escape mentally. INTJ

    ah dang, this is good. i have a friend who operates an escape room business, and he invited me once to try it out. bruh, i was humbled. i thought i'd do all right but then i realized that i just couldn't seem to find the necessary clues, nothing was jumping out at me...
    i wonder if it's because everything was lying still...nothing in motion, all these objects just lying there, and i didn't know where to look... but i wonder if they happened to be in motion, then maybe i could glean some pattern about their operation, i dunno...but honestly i feel like i struggle to maintain extended connection with physical reality--as in, i can do it but it requires lots of exertion bc it doesn't come naturally--and it makes me feel so dumb :(

    Problem is, many situation in life in general are analogous to an escape room. Information needs to be observed, then problem solved.
    Which is why TP's just boldly go into any situation in life and deal with it, and INFJ's just freeze at the simplest real life problems like deer in headlights, and years can go by.

    The very thought of an escape room causes anxiety because I know I would never get out. If you need something practical like a sonnet or a beautiful painting I’ll come through for you. Just don’t ask me to navigate well through physical space.

    I put on this video right after going through an escape room, didn’t even know that’s what it would be about 😅
    I’ve been really going back and forth between INFJ and a few other types lately. I thought I was narrowing it down and becoming more confident in INFJ, but this puts an ever small wrinkle in that. I really enjoy escape rooms, and (not to toot my own horn) I think I am quite good at them. Still, I wonder if there can be an Ni way of being good at such a task. I’m not great at finding all the little numbers and clues throughout the room. In fact, I often miss very obvious things right in front of me. However, when other people find things and show them to me, I am very good at considering how they connect with other clues throughout the room. Maybe this is a sign of strong Ne and Ti, or maybe it could be Ni? But then again, I’m not sure because I feel as though I have a strong preference for Fe over Ti in the real world.

    Yep, I (INTJ) did an escape room with an ENTJ and an INFP and just felt lost and like a total 5th wheel. Just made me feel like an idiot. Of course it was my first one and they chose the hardest difficulty. Ugh. Made me never want to do one again, as well as question my overall intelligence

    I've never been to a physical escape room, but for a while I was playing an escape room game on my phone. Since I've never done it in person with other people, I don't know how fast or slow I would be compared to others. I think you can essentially train yourself to be good at escape room type games, but you need the time to do so. Since I was playing on my phone by myself, I had the time to learn the tricks that escape groups tend to use (since I wasn't with others who would figure out stuff before I got the chance). In the game you could use a hint when you're stuck, so you can essentially learn the tricks the game uses. I also feel my Ti is strong for an INFJ, so I'm a bit more in my head than many INFJs. I think that my Ti developed over the years because it was fostered by my family. We played a lot of games/puzzles/riddles when I was growing up, so that fostered my Ti.

    I'm not sure what my type is,but I've been thrown into escape rooms before & I enjoyed the experience of scrambling to find some kind of evidence, but it was overwhelming to know where to start!
    I did manage to solve a few codes that no one thought to look at, and I was proud of that, besides that I was surprised at how people managed to piece clues together out of seemingly thin air.

    • @SteubeMan

      i think that's what it is, not knowing where one should start, and being cognizant of a countdown timer. it's like, if i had enough time to run through all the possible variables, then i could eventually figure it out, but i don't think the rest of you wanna be here all night while i do that! lol

    I think I'd be pretty good at an escape room (over-estimating) though I'd have to be in the mood... it can seem like a lot of work if I'm tired. 😅 It'd have to be organized a bit more for an intuitive and not a sensor (Se/Si) otherwise my brain would explode. Also, you are right. I'd be expecting something to jump out of me that my Ni can collect and AHA on. I'd probably feel pretty useless to some extent depending... I suck at Trivia and when I go to gatherings I want to help in the kitchen, offer to help in the kitchen, think I can help in the kitchen but feel so relieved when people say "No" because I don't really know where to take the initiation.
    For instance, in middle school we crawled through a black dark tunnel to simulate a "bats" experience... I could navigate that pretty well.

    I have been in an escape room and I had no problems, so explain that. It was pretty much a series of puzzles done one after another, so the setting of a room didn't make it much different from regular puzzle solving. I am also not sure if there are any problems that can be solved with Ti but couldn't be with Te.

    • @Gio-sx7kt
      @Gio-sx7kt 2 місяці тому +4

      I was thinking we would actually be good at those rooms, but we were also the last group out, and actually we failed, even though I was the one solving everything at almost every step. I just think that Ni when downsized to the moment we could predict how people might construct a room, and envision the possibilities, but alas I did fail. 😂

    • @Gio-sx7kt
      @Gio-sx7kt 2 місяці тому +1

      The reason we got held up, is that someone did trip on a step, and was concerned whether they needed medical attention or not though, which did also absorb time and thought energy too. But if we can downsize our Ni to the moment by moment I think we'd actually be good at this.

    I'm totally useless at games like you've described. Can't be bothered, now I know why. Also, I think this goes for many video games. I've only played a few like Quake back in the day. To move forward in theses games you must find 'keys' and solve visual puzzles, I'm no good at it and would usually just call up my friend with the better sensing ability who had applied himself to finding the appropriate clues to solve these puzzles to move forward.

    I never been in an escape room but i have been in a maze of mirrors and that was disorienting and uncomfortable.
    I remember going into a particular part of the area that someone indirectly told me (she was talking to her friend who listened to her and they left) that the area was a blocked corner.
    I ignored her and went there feeling that she was wrong and sure enough she was right, when i turned around, i was VERY disoriented and i was beginning to panic. I dont remember how i got out after that since it felt all my senses were crashing abd overwhelming me but im pretty sure it was my sibling who helped me get out of there.

    Hello Ren, long time since I’ve last left a comment, hope all is well especially with the new book. I would be interested to know your thoughts on how differently the Ni doms will work within this species of exercise. Yes I see an argument for underdeveloped extroverted sensing causing both of our friends to be utterly useless, perhaps just standing around looking at things. But I’m curious how you see the phenomenological attitude of these two types engaging with such an experience. How is the inner world of these two types different given the same circumstances(escape room)?

    • @RensRoom
      @RensRoom  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Albury, great to see you comment (and apologies for the late response). As usual you ask quite deep questions that I wouldn't be able to respond to in snippet fashion ^^" But I will probe this question of different phenomenologies and try to articulate it in a future video. For the INTJ perspective I often find Elodie's comments (she often posts on my videos) very perceptive and insightful. How's everything going with you otherwise?

      @@RensRoom no worries Ren, im sure you’re a busy lad. Thank you for such a compliment, I try not to leave comments unless there is truly thought provoking and substantial content I can share. I will look forward to your future video. I have to apologize for less engagement in the community recently. @AlburyShaffer That's the right approach my friend. If you want to be productive with your own material, you definitely want to get more selective about what you engage with/consume. There's no way around it. On a related note, I just watched the first three minutes of your latest video (I think your latest?) and I was very impressed with both the content and the wonderful formating. My videos look like prehistory compared to yours! I decided I would just watch the whole thing with my wife tonight -- she's into personality as well.

    There are systems, like socionics, which claim that INTJs have strong (demonstrative) Ti, which is up there with dominant Ti. Also, having trouble figuring stuff out is more a sign of weak Te/Ti instead of strong Ni / weak Se. IxFJ are notoriously known for using Fe (asking people for help/explanations) in situations where Te is needed (figuring stuff out - especially technical systems).
    If you haven't seen it, here a good take on weak Te in IxFJs: watch?v=4ZgByytjpUU

    • @sonicmaths8285
      @sonicmaths8285 2 місяці тому +2

      No they don’t. Ni means preparation for the future. If they lack a plan, then they’re screwed
      People who use Ne improvise most of the time so that would make much more sense for such types to be better at that
