    I went to a lecture by a professor in sleep, the main take aways: most people don’t have a sleep issue, but they have an anxiety issue that leads to less sleep so worth addressing anxieties first.
    Also,it is actually normal to wake in the night due to the natural sleep cycle, and it’s better to acknowledge that and not stress about being awake - instead, get out of bed, do something quiet eg read and then go back to bed and try and not worry (aware that’s easier said than done) as it’s better to be awake out of the bed.

    Hi Grace! Often we treat the symptoms and not the causes in the case of anxiety, and lack of sleep might be a symptom in your case. If you've had a stressful event which has triggered anxiety, you might need to address that in a few sessions of therapy. I had this a year ago with eczema which was triggered by anxiety and stress from a few situations that I hadn't addressed. As soon as I started treating the causes it cleared up. Only a suggestion, but it helped me :) Thanks for your videos!!

    Hey, Grace! Just a suggestion: If you don't have enough room in your kitchen cabinets, you could put all your most beautiful dishes (cake stand, pretty bowls, serving dishes, etc.) on top of the cabinets and have more room inside the cupboards for things you don't want to see all the time. Love all your videos! ☺️💗

      I use plastic wicker baskets on top of my cabinets. They are obviously wipe clean for dust, but it looks neater.

      @@PeaAndTed Yeah I've done that for years but with actual wicker. I don't think they had the plastic ones when I bought mine. They were still very cheap. Five big ones on top of my cabinets and then I have six of these fabric boxes with lids that fit nicely under two benches around our kitchen table. I have a small kitchen so every bit of storage is needed! We didn't have a dishwasher for years but when our second baby was coming along I needed to clear out a press so we could fit one in. Needs must. I bake a lot to so I have a lot of baking supplies and equipment too.

    I don’t ever let my washer and dryer run when I’m not home. Best habit is load all of the dirty items in there in the morning but don’t run it. Run it in the evening when you know you won’t be rushing out somewhere. By loading it in the morning you are helping future Grace to not put off doing laundry.

    Magnesium gummies helped me through a patch of sleep issues. Also, obviously, use the restroom before bed. Limiting drinks for a few hours before bedtime will also help. I hope you get some good sleep soon!

      Going to try, my body is waking me up after 4 hours only. Zombie like all day then when I lie down, I lay there in the dark for hours without stimulus then finally sleep only to be woken up at 5 😢😢

    can totally relate to the olives--- when we were little, my sister and i would eat kalamata olives as our Saturday morning treat & watch cartoons. Instead of eating sugary cereal, we wanted olives. Too good!

    Hi Grace, happy new year! I have also had sleep struggles the past couple of years. I have found magnesium tablets are really good to help me sleep longer, also have a positivity journal I write three positive things in before bed and then do a 10 minute meditation and then read. It's a bit of a process but it has helped me a lot!

    I’m also on a journey this year to try and improve my sleep. There’s so many “remedies” out there it’s so hard to know what to try.
    Things I’m trying at the moment:
    - Improving my sleep environment (removing my phone from the bedroom, I’ve got a separate alarm clock, no phone or laptop in the bedroom, especially before bed time)
    - I’ve recently bought a new bigger sized bed to reduce partner disturbance (this has probably been the best thing for me so far, I’m not sleeping through the night 100% of the time, but definitely more than I was, and when I do wake up it’s not because of my partner)
    - I’ve tried various supplements including a sleepy hot chocolate with magnesium. I haven’t really noticed a difference with these things, but I think maybe consistency and building a routine is probably important as well.

I'm afraid I can't help you on the sleep front, I similarly struggle with sleep but I tend to struggle getting off to sleep as opposed to waking in the night, so I sympathise with your frustrations. I notice fluctuations in my sleep with my hormonal cycle. Do you notice any fluctuations in severity through your cycle at all? Also can I just say, I couldn't help but notice how healthy and glossy your hair looked in this vlog! Thank you for bringing so much joy to the world through your vlogs, we need more people like you in the world.

    Recipe idea, I just made a leftover Christmas cheese and onion quiche. Was delightful ❤ I had a couple of truckles of cheeses left from Christmas nibble nights, smoked cheddar, black garlic and caramelised onion grated it all (150g), layered it on a bed of caramelised onions, 6 eggs and 250ml of half cream half milk, seasoned with Italian herbs in a dish with puff pastry. Very good I think you would enjoy 😊 and Happy New Year 🎉

    Happy New year Grace... I also have the 3 am wake up ....I use magnesium and I still wake up. You can try sour sop tea or a breathing technique. Breathe in for r breathes..hold for 5 and out for 6. It works ,even if you feel you have to do it for a longtime. It slows your heart rate and puts you back to sleep

    You can buy Jam sugar, which is sugar with pectin mixed together. Some fruits already have natural pectin but normally you can just use sugar but will need to boil it longer.

    I had the same issue and the best thing I did was stop eating 3 hours before I wanted to go to bed. Really helps with managing blood sugar levels and cortisol issues (I think this is the word you were looking for before). Also eating protein for breakfast is a good idea for helping with cortisol levels. Hope this helps!

    hey some sleep tips you could try - lavender pillow spray, ASMR videos, meditation, bamboo pillows, no naps during the day and wait until you're really tired to go to bed, reading just before bed, a relaxing bath with some lavender products, chamomile tea, don't have your bedroom too warm as you sleep better if it's a little cooler, or if you're desperate I always sleep well after night nurse! ☺ love your videos x

    Asbestos is the very worst when it’s being put in or taken out, the rest of the time it’s fairly inert and you don’t need to worry about it too much, although of course it’s a good idea to get it taken out when you find out you have it. (Source: my dad worked in construction for 50 years and eventually passed from asbestosis. They really had no idea back in the day.)

    I struggle with the same problem of waking up towards the end of the night, and these are things that have worked for me (on and off to be fair, but they have worked!): eating a banana with peanut butter before bed (to help control melatonin levels apparently, look into protein for better sleep), drinking a nighttime tea, having a slow routine and of course reducing screen time and taking a magnesium tablet before bed

    Hi Grace, sorry to hear you're not sleeping well. I have found that if I have chocolate or sugar in the evenings, it really impacts my sleep and without it, I sleep through. I would recommend trying it !! It's been life changing for me :)

    Could you try going back to your parents' place for the night? Are you able to sleep there? If so, that will deduce that the problem is maybe related to your environment. Things such as foxes screaming, noisy road, mold/dust in house, or perhaps q neighbour who goes off to work at 3am etc etc
    After that maybe try your parents' house with Mr Grack. It might be that he starts lightly sleep talking at 3am, but you don't and properly wake until he has stopped?
    Just thinking like a scientist, isolating all of the variables 😅

    Hi Grace, I run a zero waste shop. (Im sure there are some great ones around you!) One of my customers swears by hemp tea for sleeping soundly. So maybe worth a try?
    Also, would you maybe do a video of visitng zero waste/refills shops some time?

    I use downloadable audiobooks to put myself to sleep and to go back to sleep if I wake in the night. It's like being read a bedtime story. Usually I wake at 1:30 and sometimes again around 3:00. Choose something like Harry Potter or a cozy mystery that doesn't have anything violent in it!

    I’ve heard that using mouth tape at night while you sleep has nice benefits. Some say they actually sleep through the night and wake up feeling ready for the day since using mouth tape. I haven’t personally tried this yet, but I plan to very soon. I could definitely use some help in the “sleep through the night”department myself. I will also put on a podcast or watch an ASMR video from time to time when I’m restless. Hope this helps! 🤗

    Ear plugs! Was a major insomniac before them. I think I am naturally a light sleeper so anything and everything was waking me up. Really recommend trying some

    I worked nights for so many year sand sleep is a huge thing for me. I can be awake for 32 hours! ..... Bigger bed! We went for the super king and it was so worth it. Separate duvets like the scandi countries do, so you can both be in control of your own temp! And noise machine! 3 am wake up is for sure a stress response and its awful, hot water bottle is what i go down to make and it I can fall back asleep. I have woke up at 3am after a bad dream and cried before, its wild. (This is my husbands account before I get weird comments)

    My wife is an epic jam and jelly maker. She uses green Granny Smith apples instead of pectin. It works a treat! You should give it a try.

    Homeownership is no joke. That alone can keep you up! Pace yourself on home repairs and approach the health risk items first and then move on to the pretties. It’s frustrating to not be able to immediately fix what you would like. The trick is to try to work on it and then work on focussing on what you do have control over without stressing yourself out further. Also check your iron and vitamin D levels. It’s the dark season so your vit D may be low and also you may not be getting your walks in as much that you said you do for relaxation.
    You are really doing a good job with your new life but it’s a big change. Oh and the iron, just something women get low iron at times and you need some supplements. That’s a simple blood test. I would mention it to a doctor if it continues but try all the basics like relaxation via exercise, setting times to so intentional relaxing passive or active activities or just simply calling your mom or sister to unload a bit of stress about the house and feeling cruddy from poor sleep.
    I hope you are feeling better soon.
    Bummer on the appliance and wallpaper and etc.
    Maybe you just need to do some therapeutic baking or a meander of what’s new to try baking or what’s new at IKEA for a little dopamine hit from shopping or creativity sparks.
    You seem anxious about the house. It will be okay. These problems happen with new homes unless you are wealthy enough to fix it all at once and these days money is stretched further.
    Your house will be a home soon enough. Don’t stress it. Consider it a labor of love and be patient. If it gets to you, get out of the house and do something fun.
    Do check your vitamin D levels though or just supplement in the dark season.
    Have you considered starting a garden in the spring? If so, now is a time to pick your seeds and prepare to plant seeds in trays for the garden. The meandering of seed catalogues is very therapeutic. Lol

    After the pandemic, I started waking up around three every morning. The rescue plus melatonin, sleep, gummy’s by BACH rescue really help me. This is bearing in mind that no other melatonin helps me.

    Happy new years! I was given antihistamines by my doctor to help with my sleep but you can just buy them over the counter. I think I used 25mg pills. They didn’t make me drowsy BUT did help me sleep through the night! :)

      Don't take allergy meds unless you really need them..the constant use of them has been linked to Alzhhiemers.

    I hope you manage to find a solution to your sleep soon! All these comments are really helpful but obviously different things work for everyone. I struggle with this and tried mouth tape, magnesium, tea etc but what works for me is listening to a calm playlist eg Phoebe Bridget’s on a 30 min timer to get to sleep, when I wake up do a weird breathing technique: squeeze your bum hole, breath in, clench your abs and throat and look in between your eyebrows with eyes closed. Hold for as long as possible, release and repeat 5 times. It sound silly but works most of the time, aim is to get to a meditative state where it feels kinda wavy when looking between your eyebrows. And if you’ve had a couple of bad nights of sleep take 50mg of phenegran (get from behind pharmacy counter at boots) which is an antihistamine. But only take up to 3 times a week as u don’t want to get reliant on it. But yeah the reason your waking up is anxiety/stress, I’ve just been given some serotonin/melatonin tablets I’ll let u know if they work. Lots of love Jas xx

    Hi Grace! For sleeping through the night, have you looked at your blood sugar levels? I had so many issues with sleep as well until I addressed my cortisol (stress hormone) and blood sugar levels. A great tea for stress is Tusi (Holy Basil). Hope this can help! :)

    You could do a row of wooden veg boxes or ikeas KNAGGLIG on top of the cupboards then it’ll nicely present whatever you place inside them for extra storage

    For one I would say make sure it’s the right type of magnesium bc there are different kinds. Also, it might take a few days to kick in bc if your deficient in it it will take time for your body to replenish it and supplements can sometimes be variable as they are not always regulated.

    So fun! watching you make that little jar of jam made me giggle a bit though, because when I make Jam I usually end up making 12-20 500ml jars at a time :) It looks lovely though :) I just made some chocolate cherry jam. you inspired me to make some biscuits today :)

      @@Grackle 1.5 L fresh or frozen pitted dark sweet cherries corarsely chopped. 90ml pectin. 60ml bottled lemon juice. 1.5 L sugar. 150ml unsweetened cocoa powder.
      stir sugar and cocoa together till well blended.
      combine cherries, lemon juice and pectin in 4-L stainless steel or enameled dutch oven. Bring to full rolling boil over high heat stiring constantly.
      add sugar mixture all at once to boiling mixture. Continue stirring as you bring to full rolling boil again boil hard one minute, remove from heat.
      ladle hot jam into hot jar leaving 1cm head space. wipe jar rim, put on lid and you can waterbath can (place tea towel or rack on bottom of stock pot, submerge jars in boiling water ( have pot simmering not to full boil when you place jars in to reduce risk of thermal shock to jars)) for 10min to ensure shelf stable. or after cooled store in freezer

    *tip for falling & staying asleep*
    It sounds simple, but these two are a magic combo and make me fall asleep super fast + have a deep sleep
    - *wax earplugs* you can mold to your ear! They dont hurt your ears like usual ones :)
    &
    - A nice sleeping mask

    Also I really find it helps if i sleep in a cold room -keep my window slightly open and not wearing much clothes + a light blanket- so i dont get hot and wake up all sweaty and anxious. I am someone who gets hot very quickly so maybe you dont have this issue. Just wanted to share, bc maybe it could help :)

    Nytol one a night and 2 magnesium works for me. Also oats, yogurt and blueberries as a late night snack has been shown to help too! X

    I take a time release melatonin tablet about 30 minutes before bed. When I'm unable to take them (due to upcoming surgeries for example), I use a magnesium cream on my feet and legs. It doesn't work as well for me as the melatonin but it helps. I also utilize white noise and and eye mask.

    I used to wake up in the night a lot, but taking anxiety meds has helped a lot. For me, it wasn’t a sleep issue per say, but an anxiety issue causing bad sleep

    A friend and me have had great results with an psychosomatic physiotherapist. Basically someone who deals with somatic issues such as sleeping problems (friends case) or other things like joint pain (my case), that are rooted in a more psychological cause (such as higher levels of cortisol). I’ve always loved working with these professionals and love the holistic approach that still feels medical and based in science. Maybe there’s one in your area!

    There is a tea called Sleepytime Tea. It’s sometimes worked for me in the past. The ingredients are Chamomile, Spearmint, Lemongrass, Tilia Flowers, Blackberry Leaves, Hawthorn and Rosebuds. Maybe you could check into it and give it a try. Happy New Year to you and your family!

    Hey Grace ❤ I was always a through the night person until i starting living by myself, ive wondered if its a reptillian vigilence thing? I wodner the moving out of your parents has had the same effect for you. I do find that reading before bed and keeping the phone out of my room helps (but i struggle!!!)

    Try melatonin. You can't get it in the uk without a prescription, but you can order it online from America.
    The science you were referring to is that researchers believe that magnesium may help promote better sleep by reducing the stress hormone (cortisol), which increases the sleep hormone melatonin (mentioned above). Hope this helps 😊

      I also second using melatonin from time to time. I have to say, though, that not sleeping through the whole night could also be a hormonal change that is natural. Don't beat yourself up too much!

    One of the ingredients in the TikTok sleep cocktail is sour cherry juice, and normally I’d be sceptical hearing that, but for the past few years I’ve been taking a cherry supplement designed as a sleep aid when I go through a bad sleeping phase and it’s the only thing that’s worked for me - tried the herbal teas and magnesium etc. - didn’t work. I’m in Australia so don’t know if you can get it in the UK: GO Healthy, GO Cherry Sleep (Sour Cherry dry 450mg, Passionflower from dry herb 500mg). Take one 30-60 mins before bed.

    Sleep- have a bedtime snack within an hour of laying down to sleep. Perhaps cereal or a scone with clotted cream & jam - cherries can help with sleep (some studies have confirmed this). Cherry Garcia ice cream 😊

    Hi Grace! I had a friend that really struggled with sleeping and waking in the night. The only thing that she found that helped her was taking Melatonin tablets. The NHS website says they usually come in 2mg slow release tablets however I think in this country you might have to go to the Dr's (she was in the Netherlands and could buy them over the counter)... I would do a bit more research and have a look around but they might be able to help you.

    Grack, when you first spoke about the sleep thing in this video you said something like 'after something happened 3 years ago'... like others have said, perhaps it's linked to an anxiety or stress or potentially (whatever happened) has created some sort of pattern or psychological distress that you're currently unable to let go of...have you spoken to anyone about it? Whatever happened, if it was traumatic in anyway...this disturbed sleep could be a symptom of the distress or the disturbance is linked to that time of night? Could therapy or something be an option?... wishing you all the best!

    Recently, a cup of chamomile honey vanilla tea and listening to a yoga nidra session with Ally Boothroyd (specifically for sleep) has done the trick. I have also used chamomile sleep gummys in the past. Good luck !

    Our washing machine bites, too. So, occasionally, does our dryer...but she tends to be a little bit warmer! (heh heh I couldn't help myself)
    Seriously, tho...the manufacturer's should bevel any & all of those edges smooth!

    no snax after dinner! Lemon water sipped in evening. If you wake up, do not look at the time! Roll over and repeat a little mantra such as: thank you for the wonderful sleep!

    Just a suggestion - as you were looking for suggestions for things to trial for content ..... how about trialling the Zoe Health Study and telling us about how you find it?
    Your sleep problem could be down to an over-sensitive response to a drop in your insulin levels (someone’s already suggested an over-sensitive response to the natural rise in cortisol might be a factor). Zoe could help pinpoint if it’s a diet-related problem or not. With the info from Zoe, your diet becomes easier to tweak, and could potentially prove far more useful and cost-effective than wasting money on possibly useless, and potentially risky, combinations of supplements (just because they’re natural, does not mean they’re not potentially toxic in frequent doses or in combinations with other stuff)
    Just a thought to drop in the mix - and Happy New Year 😊

    Luv, getting some different colour toned lightbulbs will help you out so much! A different colour tone can totally change how garish the overhead lighting looks on video.

    Grack chamomile tea and lavender spritz on pillowcase room plus candles not bright lights these really help me sleep plus put some talk down meditation on phone night mode night night assess grackers haha 😘😘🤗

    I only use washing machines when I’m in the house and always turn its water supply off when not in use.
    I’ve heard too many bad stories

    You may want to try some melatonin to stay asleep. I have narcolepsy, a sleep disorder, and I often have trouble staying asleep at night without melatonin. During the day I'm fine lol 😂 but at night? I need melatonin. I would recommend some melatonin tablets. I know that ritual has an extended release tablet I was looking into. They do 3rd party testing too so I would recommend the brand.❤ Also for above your cabinets, I think it would look nice if you found some non see-through bins (the same one so it's uniform) and just tucked your excess or oversized things into. It would give a pleasing and seamless look in my opinion.😁

    Grace! try seeing a sleep therapist for CBT-I. It has been the only thing that has worked for me because it re-programs your brain.

    I used to wake up at 3am every night it was dreadful, my advice would be taking magnesium tablets from Holland and Barrett and also when I was regularly taking ashwaganda I noticed I had really good sleep both together worked great!

      Also found that my sleeping is affected by my hormonal cycle and so understanding that made me more at peace with it if that makes sense haha

    I will never do a load of washing while out of the house! When it's overloaded (even without cramming stuff in) the motor really stinks so I'm scared of it catching fire.

    Grace it has to be because you’re for the first time sharing a bed with someone - That’s when the bad sleep all started for you
    You might need to sleep separately unfortunately
    It may be that every move he makes or sound he makes wakes you up
    Maybe try a split mattress where you don’t feel the other sides Movements
    And sleep with separate blankets

    Sometimes when you waking up at the same time every night it is because your body has developed the habit, there may have been a reason at the beginning but now it's just habit, like when you set your alarm for years at 7am and you keep waking up at that time when you don't need to. If you find your needing to go to the bathroom, try to not drink lot the last hour or so before bed time. Melatonin might help- I'm a terrible sleeper and it didn't work for me but I've had friends swear by it.

    Be careful with the amount of magnesiumpowder! There is usually a measuringspoon inside the can. I almost had kidney-issues because i misinterpreted the instructions to the magnesium-powder i was taking. And was taking 800mg instead of 250mg and it destroyed my sleep 😅Do not use a tablespoon if the instructions dont specifically say tablespoon

      Nuvita CBN - I only take half of a gummy but I now sleep all the way through the night. Even with sharing a bed with my 3 year old

    My sleep was affected the week leading up to my period/when I was premenstrual. I would wake up a lot during the night (spesh at 3pm) and feel anxious during that week. Evening primrose oil really helped a lot to regulate hormones

    Grace, do you use any limescale product in your washing machine ? I live in a really hard water area, so use a limescale product once a month ( Calgon antibacterial gel). I wont ever buy anything from Currys again, awful company. Check out their reviews online. There must be other electrical stores in your area. I struggle with sleep - i have my bedroom window open a tiny bit in the Winter and more in the Summer, plus i never close the bedroom door. When i wake up, i just train myself to go back to sleep. Plus i have Twinnings sleep tea in the evening ( the apple & vanilla with camomile & passionflowers). Hope you sort your sleep out soon, try not to stress about it. Cant remember the lst time i slept right through the night.

    Hiya... Not gonna say this will help you sleep the night through exactly... But if you're after a sleepy non alcoholic drink there's a brand called Three Spirit and they do one called Nightcap, makes a nice adult drink (i mix with ginger).. It's got a lot of herbals and adaptogens in there (including valerian) that are supposed to help with the calming, and it tastes good 👌👌

    Sleep remedies: No caffeine, including chocolate, after one pm, magnesium glycinate 250 mg per day (glycinate because it is the magnesium most easily absorbed), B12 sublingual 750- 1000 mg per week, Vit D 1000 mg per day, no liquids after 7 pm so be sure to drink minimum of 4L well before that, cool bedroom (body sleeps better in cool room), Insight timer app (relaxation/mediation app) or head space app plus diaphragmatic breathing before bed, no screens an hour before bed, feet up on wall for 10-15 minutes an hour before bed to "reset" bladder, a walk every day, minimum 30 minutes, "journal" lists and concerns every morning.....the most important thing is consistency in doing all of these. I have had insomnia for 4 years, waking multiple times, and finally got some good professional help with it. It's getting better (on my 2nd year of trying for consistency). Good luck with it, Grace. If nothing works, go see your health care provider. Sleep is essential.

    Your body clock will know to wake up at the same time every night if it’s been happening for a while. You need to try napping in the day and then training yourself to sleep through or to stay up all night and then sleep through the next night xx
