Also At the half way point of that plastic thickness or about a 1/2 or 3/4 inch from both sides, add some fiberglass or fiberglass over a fine wire mesh or plate steel with several coatings of a real good bed liner like they use in Pickup Trucks. I do think that the .308 and 6.5 would have made it through the steel plate if the plate had not been ripped out. Lots of energy lost from shrapnel flying out the bottom of the armor as well as the steel taking the energy with it when it left the pack.
I'd argue that steel strips in this case are more likely to stops bullets than a single plate, given that they can deform more before cracking or otherwise yielding. For those that are going to either disagree or have no idea what I saying, it's easier to deform materials with a smaller cross sectional area. If I glue a steel plate to a wall, then the entire surface area of that plate is then resisting movement, therefore it would be less likely to yield. But if I glue a small steal strip to the wall, then there is less force preventing the plate from deforming. Yielding more in this case is better before it catches and slows the bullets rather than trying to stop them outright. This is the same principle behind bulletproof glass . Not a good example, but it covers the basics.
Rosin is used on violin bow strings . So if you play the violin in the UK yes you would say rosin but otherwise in DIY circles you of course would say resin if you were using plastics .
I live in the UK, we call resin resin, however, Rosin, also called colophony or Greek pitch (Latin: pix graeca), is a solid form of resin obtained from pines and some other plants, mostly conifers, produced by heating fresh liquid resin to vaporize the volatile liquid terpene components. It is semi-transparent and varies in colour from yellow to black...
Impressed by testing logic on this channel- not bothering with the fat slower .45 bullet was the right call when testing penetration unlike other youtubers who would pointlessly shoot .45 then .357 or .44 at a compromised target just for the kicks. Using Russian surplus military ammo was excellent. Only gripe was soft tip 5.56 hunting ammo was used here instead of fmj/ball. Good job
Not necessarily. The thickness of the HDPE is probably the limiting factor. If you can slim them to a more molded form factor you could probably do the major body panels.
@@aac7183 The thicknesses shown in this video would be fine for that. A full chest plate of the "ceramic and steel plate" model would not be practical for normal wear.
A very nice attempt at homemade armor, one of the better looking ones as well. I agree that plate steel would have been a better solution than the metal strips. Or perhaps a second layer of the strips rotated 90 degrees would be an option? Either way I appreciate the work involved in making the armor, thankyou for your time. A most enjoyable video.

ok
I remember her back in the 1976 Olympics, she was awesome one of a kind.
‘Rosin’ said literally no British person ever.
As a brit, i can object to that
Rosin is used on violin bow strings .
So if you play the violin in the UK yes
you would say rosin but otherwise in DIY circles you of course would say resin if you were using plastics .
I think the core in the russian round made it through, jacket stayed behind.
That is some impressive DIY body armor! Nice!
Great video as always!
I believe it's called HDPE-LGBTQ+
Edit : By the way, we don't call it a 5,50,6, 🤣
Edit 2 : Okay that was more British jokes than I anticipated 👍
Impressed by testing logic on this channel- not bothering with the fat slower .45 bullet was the right call when testing penetration unlike other youtubers who would pointlessly shoot .45 then .357 or .44 at a compromised target just for the kicks. Using Russian surplus military ammo was excellent. Only gripe was soft tip 5.56 hunting ammo was used here instead of fmj/ball. Good job

"We don't need language like that on this show"
OG cracks me up!
Love the video as always! Glad to see this one is monetized with it showing shooting!
It might be slightly impractical to make an entire body armour with that, right?
Not necessarily. The thickness of the HDPE is probably the limiting factor. If you can slim them to a more molded form factor you could probably do the major body panels.
@@Scott_C not to mention annealing, makes it stronger and thinner.
You CAN make a suit and helmet out of milk cartons though. 🤔
BuzzinsPetRock78
Might be ok to use to protect a vehicle
@@aac7183 The thicknesses shown in this video would be fine for that. A full chest plate of the "ceramic and steel plate" model would not be practical for normal wear.
A very nice attempt at homemade armor, one of the better looking ones as well. I agree that plate steel would have been a better solution than the metal strips. Or perhaps a second layer of the strips rotated 90 degrees would be an option? Either way I appreciate the work involved in making the armor, thankyou for your time. A most enjoyable video.
Wait after u shot the ceramic plate 2 times it got kinda compromised as the ceramic crumbled and flew away
Nice crafts and arts on Tech this out Meow... looks good!
Awesome video!!!
Good work guys... ! :)
thank you Saar!
When I eat steel for breakfast I prefer smoked stainless strips myself.
Well that was interesting. That stuff is tougher than goat gizzards.
Ak hit right dead center and "opened" those 2 plates like a bar's swinging doors.
I believe DuPont makes a material called "Lifeguard".
It has anti ricochet properties.
A 3/16 piece stops most small arms, a 3/8 piece stops a 44 magnum.

Shhhh, you'll summon Brandon H. (The AK guy).
I don’t care who dislikes OG, I think he and Jeff has the coolest channel of all. I try not miss a very video put out. As a bonus we get see some fingers wiggles in holes 😂 and look a of things getting shot , blown up, tested 🎉
Does it matter if they don't go through, if you have a busted sternum?
I keep hearing about body armor.
But have yet to hear of
( right between the eyes ) armor?
The very best armor is not getting hit.
Busted sternum is better than heart muscle blown out your spine
@@Daves_Not_Here_Man_76 Both lead to death, and the one makes you wish for the other.
Thanks Jeff and OG!!
another awesome video, thanks again and please keep'em coming!!👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Thanks for watching, Dewey.
British here and only ever called resin lol
Rosin is used in playing pool and the violin
Yeah fools..
@@chemusvandergeek1209 also for soLdering .
@@chemusvandergeek1209 yeah also Canadians smoke it, check it oout 🤣🤣🤣
Rosin is used for soldering ;)
Thanks for your wisdom my brother in Christ.

Dug has more holes than Biden's Ukraine story! 😂
Good one.
Gotta love a .308. Turning cover into concealment since 1952.
