From the start until the mistake at 2:43, this video is just amazing. One of the greatest melody players ever on guitar ! He's playing "Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming", which he wrote for Deep Purple.
Well I perhaps should have specified the possibility of playing at very loud volumes on top quality amps which, as we know, generates all kind of sustain through varying levels of distortion. If you look at his gear demos you will see that he does have a pretty substantial effects pedals linked to rows of racks. It isn't by chance that so few known musicians have endorsed or play MusicMan guitars...bass are another story...I hear that they are really good.
The main reason few players play musicman is because they're not mass produced so aren't so commonly seen in guitar shops. Also they're a relatively young company compared to Fender or Gibson so don't have the same vintage/classic appeal. Even though not to my taste, they are fine guitars. And they have the same pedigree as Fender, seeing as MusicMan was co-founded by Leo Fender.
I also need to step up my game if I want to be half this good at playing the guitar.
Well I have collated a lot of info from internet sites and guitar shops and there seems to be a consensus that the SMY2 has a problem with its attack level and tone...most people say that it is the woods used...I had it looked at by two top electric guitar luthiers and neither were able to solve the problem....anyway it is too late because I swapped it...if yours sounds great than I am happy for you :)

Steve Morse isn't an effects player, pretty much just distortion and delay.
Yes but still this doesn't address whether they have achieved the magic alchemy between the wood, design, ergonomics and electronics and my contention is that they have not in their six stringed guitars....the sustain and attack level just can't compare to a Gibson or a Fender and the proof is or isn't in the pudding so to speak..how many well known musicians have endorsed them apart from Lukather and Morse?
