How Rihanna Became the Queen of the Met Gala

- The first Monday In may is reserved for fashion’s biggest night. A List celebrities gather at the Metropolitan Museum for a night of charity and fashion. The Met carpet is the chance to be daring, and take fashion risks one might not normally take on a traditional red carpet. Fans hope to see their favorite celebrities in iconic looks, and many flock to social media to share their opinions live. Fans especially hope to see Rihanna, as she wows every time she arrives. Stunning in designers from Stella McCartney, to Margiela, to Balenciaga, Rihanna shows time and time again through her Met looks that fashion is art. Her big Met breakout was her Guo Pei look for 2015's China: Through the Looking Glass event. Since she's pregnant, Rihanna likely won't be at Monday's Met. So in her honor, let's take a look at how Rihanna became the queen of the Met Gala!

@@naomi.cannibal to this day, that yellow dress hasn't been topped by anyone and I doubt anyone will ever top it. when you say met gala, that yellow Guo Pei dress is what comes to mind first even for some people who don't follow the MET every year.

Ya It felt meh at first but once I got it, it was a SERVE. I think it would have helped though if it wasn't all black since alot of detail was lost if you didn't look

Rhianna is so effortless. She doesn’t try hard to be the centre of attention. She just is. She always looks so great at the Met.
Ever since Kim got with Kanye, he was her introduction into the fashion world and to me,
she seems to desperate to be accepted and respected in the fashion industry.
Since her first time at the MET with Kanye she has gone EVERY year. Most celebs don’t turn up yearly but Kim does. She wants to be always be the talk of the gala and what’s to be seen as an fashion icon.
Rhianna doesn’t show up yearly but when she does make an appearance, all eyes are on her. 😍

You explained this so well. Fashion tells a story. It’s art. She takes care of it well while being an artist. I love the way how every era she was telling a story of that part of her life through her choices of hair and style. She puts actual efforts into her style but you can tell she’s a natural at it.
The Guo Pei one will always be my favorite! She killed it and no one would ever wear it as great as her💕

ngl hands down my fav met gala attendee is Zendaya! She always comes in a stunning look from head to toe that catches your eye. Her only miss was the Cinderella look imo but other than that flawless
the Cinderella dress was HIDEOUS. One of my least favorite looks, but otherwise Zendaya serves every time. I’m sad she won’t be at this MET. Honestly nervous for the looks we’re gonna get tonight :/

My fav Riri look is the yellow from the met and her see thru dress with the diamonds and the head wrap thing when she picked up her fashion icon awards @ the CFDA. Noon and booty out. Everyone was outraged but I always thought it was iconc
I'm surprised you didn't end this with the beautiful statue created in her honor at the met gala. So even though she wasn't there her energy, pregnant body, and likeness was on full display. Would've been a beautiful cherry on top. Otherwise great video.

I hope this year the attendees of the gala get the theme right bc last year low key pissed me off on 85% of them missed the point only a small few did and those who did get it right has the best outfits (Ciara, lupita Nyong’o, Rihanna, Emily blunt)
Agreed! It's like have the attendees didn't even try and just were like "lemme put on a cute dress". I hate when the guests don't follow the theme. Honestly nervous for Monday bc the last one was so bad, but I hope we get some decent looks out of it.
@@naomi.cannibal right and I was pissed bc they were so many references to so any American subcultures and fashion trends they could’ve been explored creatively and it was annoying seeing media outlets have the celebrities with the out of touch outfits be named the best outfits
I was really ready for like some 90s black culture inspired looks like Lil Kim/ Foxy Brown type fashion, or some “ghetto fabulous looks”. I also expected some looks that were Influenced by Latinx- American culture. It would’ve even been fun to see people do a take on that preppy New England aesthetic. Or even decade looks like a 60s/ 70s vibe. It would’ve been cool to see someone in like a Black Panther outfit, or some fringe/ jumpsuits to represent that era. There was no Disco representation, which could’ve been such a fun moment. It was kind of boring to see everyone go for Old Hollywood looks. The only one I enjoyed was Yara Shadidi’s. I just found it to be such a boring representation of American fashion when we have so many diverse looks. I could go on and on forever about how uncreative this last met was

I think for the first few years you're missing the fact that she was a guest of a designer, which mean she's going to wear the designers clothes. 2015 she was the performer and could wear what she wanted, following that she was already the GOAT so she continues to wear what she wants, to the point that she wouldn't make a year and they made a statue of her.

Their tables are paid for by either themselves or designers. So while the celeb themselves may not be paying out of pocket, someone is paying their way into the event.
