Decades ago the damage done to lungs and health was top of the discussion about why energy-efficient technology should be considered intensely and taught in schools. This has not been done even though the choice is more stark than ever, and a more complete knowledge of thermodynamical Actuality is more accessible.
If you have to go the long way around to be convinced that Nuclear Power Generation Electrification is the imperative, follow up on Mark's career and ask for yet another example of the inadequate alternatives, or take a short cut, arrange for as many people as you can to get a proper Consultation, and at least begin with his recommendations for the optimal design of the multiple Reactors required NOW.
"In any system of energy, Control is what consumes energy the most. Time taken in stocking energy to build an energy system, adding to it the time taken in building the system will always be longer than the entire useful lifetime of the system. No energy store holds enough energy to extract an amount of energy equal to the total energy it stores. No system of energy can deliver sum useful energy in excess of the total energy put into constructing it. This universal truth applies to all systems. Energy, like time, flows from past to future".
The geological mechanism that forms fossil fuels and many minerals has been understood since 1950s. Few reserves are left to be found only small and expensive to produce. Early the second half of this century fossil fuels face economic depletion, possibly sooner especially for oil. U235 can of supply only a small fraction of needed energy. Generation 4 fast breeder and thorium reactors are both needed as well as renewables and storage. But the needed materials to replace fossil fuels are not available.
Mark Nelson is right, deserves much more attention
Always good to see Mr. Nelson. Thanks for uploading this electrified conversation.
he's 10000% right on with the modelling example.
Please keep this up
Valuable content
9:30 "Chesterton's FENCE", not "gate".
Lol
Mark is brilliant. Not just for his expertise but for his ability to explain complexity in terms an interested layperson can grasp.
Is that a Fiestaware mug?

Does someone work for Rosatom or Wagner trolling for nuke energy? Who is that?
Mark Nelson tells like it is. The truth will set you free.
Amazing podcast

I can make a fur coat from that Mustache!
That learning to fly analogy is the best I've ever heard.
It's garbage
Here come the trolls and bots for expensive nuclear energy in the comments doing Rosatoms bidding.
