VTEC is such an amazing invention tho no one wouldve thought of using 2 types of cams in an engine to have both economy and speed when you need it
Autocar one request, please pitch New Honda city against decade old Honda civic(2011). That would be interesting. I understand old Honda civic is one level above but to see two vtech cars decade old apart will be a Nail bitting experience to watch.

1 sec faster despite harsh safety regulations, extreeemly strict emissions regulations, an additional 200kg weight, better fuel efficiency, better comfort, better refinement and better tech.

Please do rolling races after a standing drag race. It really helps to understand how the car performs in real life screnerios where traction isn't a major concern as compared to standing drag race. 🙏

Over the period of time old cars tends to loose their performance quite significantly due to various reasons. Before putting it into drag and putting out the factory power figures you guys should've done dyno run to know how much power it has lost during years of use.

Awesome comparision guys. I remember I had the first gen city in petrol. I used it as my daily driver for years. Let me tell you, in those days if you were a petrol head, Honda city first gen was a excellent choice.
A proper blue collar working class car that's great to drive. And VTEC,well that's makes the engine so much better.

For all it's worth the engine after 20 years sure doesn't make the power it once did and still managed a gap of 1 second shows that the city of the past was a true driver's delight as opposed to a practical car of today, I used to look in awe of a blue city when I was kid, didn't know much about VTEC to enjoy the city back then, But the old city looks more stylish on the outside as opposed to the new one, it just tells a message.

My personal request try same drag with two simple upgrade on SX8... 1.replace stock airfilter with k&N .
2.replace old exhaust (usualy gets blocked by over the time 20 years) with free flow exhaust "header with side pipe". Then see the power of Great Grand Father!!!

To be fair.. if you look at the timings.. 1st gen honda City is only 1.3 sec slower than Rapid turbo. So instead of thinking how slow 5th Gen City is.. we should think how fast 1st Gen City was..
