I worked there during the 1960s renewing the lighting in the corridors and wards. All hand tools had to be carried on you at all times, and a member of staff escorted us throughout the day. Many patients would keep an eye on us as we went about our work. I enjoyed working there for the experience but was glad when we were finished. Great video brought back many memories, thanks.
Doesn't surprise me that Saville had a brother like himself.. Sickening. This vlog had a eerie vibe to it, it was quite easy to picture it full of people. It had an uneasy feeling watching it,sinister even if that makes sense. If those walls could talk, i dont relish the stories it would tell. Interesting explore. S and J ❤️💙 xxx I wouldn't buy a house built on that land 😨
If Sam's voice gets any deeper I'm going to need SCUBA gear . . . Man, that is one seriously good narrator's voice you've got there. As for Jess, she sails through these explores like other people go for a walk on a beach - pure calmness.
I wonder where are some of those patient's now? The previous staff. I wondered how many were misunderstood and became so institutionalised that madness took over? I'm an empath, I'm sure I'd feel, to the core, the atmosphere in that building. Thank you Sam, Jess and Karl for this intrepid explore 😘
Very sad to think, just so thankful that the system has come so far since those days. These places will always fascinate us. Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for watching 🙏🏼❤️
I live near the hospital they were moved to a different building on that site I often see police vans taking them in so once the new hospital is up they will be moved over to the new hospital
Cool explore Sam and Jess and Karl always good to see the three of you together! Thank you for going through so much to get these videos to us! We appreciate you!!!
It’s amazing how quickly the deco deteriorates. I mean sometimes you might have a room in your house that doesn’t get decorated for some years but the paint doesn’t start to peel. Yet in an empty abandoned building it does. Notice how all the baths are accessible all the way around. None of them are against a wall or in a corner
In almost every time I’ve seen shows or stories that hospital mental health wards are abused and it’s no excuse and even when people have committed crime’s! People are mentally ill and do horrible things and no excuse but it’s absolutely no excuse to abuse because they have power when locked up! There’s patients that are harmless and we’re abused by hospitals employees and it’s sad the dark stories but they were someone’s Hell someone lived there 24/7!!!
I worked there as a contractor in the 1970s We re decorated the corridor in one of the secure landings with the padded cells. It is a sound and smell that stays with me to this day!!!
Just realised I’d forgotten to comment! This place looks awesome from the outside, but there is something about it that makes me feel very creeped out, a really dark feeling. I agree with others who say how very quickly this place has deteriorated, you’d think it had been unoccupied far longer than it has been! It’s good that it’s being repurposed, but I could never live there myself. Another great video and interesting seeing what you had to do to get in and out of there, omg the mud on your shoes 😮 and I did think you weren’t going to find your way out at one point! We appreciate all you do to bring us such great content. 🧡💜
When I first started watching this video I thought the entire hospital was going to be shut down. I had no idea there was still a current patient count! With such a horrific reputation how can it still be in operation at all?
Just love the start of all of your exploring. Sam, you have the perfect tone of voice for it. Fantastic!! Love watching all of your exploring of abandoned buildings!! You three are awesome 👌 👏

Beautiful building.. Ty for bring the history so in depth.. my question.. thos that were last to leave...where did they get sent to or those released are any still aline to share their experiences. Even anything from the nurses etc...
In 1978 I began my Psychiatric Nurse training in an asylum very much like this one, it was the day after my 18th birthday.... I grew up very, very quick!y there ! The things I saw were mind blowing, the memories I have will never go away but even now I remember the patients names that I worked with, I loved being on the Secure Unit (you never turned your back on anyone!) but I despised having to be on ECT duty ! If you go to anymore asylum's (very few left) find the mortuary first ! 👻👻👻

Way way back in the 70's I took my bicycle (don't think I was even 10 years old yet) and went on a mission from mitcham (where I was staying with my grandparents and my sister's) to god knows where. My mum had been taken away and I had to find her. I was told she was in hospital and we couldn't visit (like bloody hell I thought) it was my mum and I needed her. We didn't know why she had been taken. So I rocked up at the hospital hammering on the door demanding I see my mum and the more I was told I couldn't come in and see her the angrier I got. They called my Gramps to come get me (not everyone had a car back in the 70's) poor old Gramps got there somehow and had to drag me away. I was broken for weeks. Turns out mum had a nervous breakdown and the hospital was a mental hospital and for my safety I wasn't allowed in. If it was explained instead of hidden I might have understood. I do believe it could well have been this hospital it looks very familiar and not too far from mitcham. I know she was in warlingham for the same thing at one point too. They locked you up for some diabolical things back in the day. Masterbating having a high sex drive, and probably picking your nose to much lol. You should have a look into the things they locked you up for and think yourselves lucky these days that you can masterbate until your hearts content lol.
