After watching this video I glad to know I'm doing things correctly for my age. I'm 71. I aim for dapper in my appearance yet sensible. It's ridiculous for a man my age to ware business suites when it's obvious I'm no longer part of the business world. Therefore Blazers and Sport Coats are what's right for me at my age. Also trilby, flat caps, and fedoras, are right for me but no to all ball caps. Nice loafers or boat shoes but never sandals, tennis shoes, or flip flops. Pocket squares are a nice accessory even without a tie. A pipe can also finish a presentation even if you don't smoke it, and I don't. I know I'm dressing right because people compliment me, even strangers come up to me and give their approval. I think this video gives excellent guidance for men over 50.
I’m lucky that I’ve made Sport coats and blazers part of my ‘style’ since my Twenties. I’m in my 60’s now, and there’s one thing that always works - a blazer. I swear, I could wear dirty smelly sweatpants not my size, white socks with Crocs, a dirty, stained, t shirt, I put on a blazer and people go ‘Well, what are you all dressed up for’. They weren't a tough crowd.😆
The best accessory for anyone is a nice physique. Having said that dress best for the body that you have. A proper fit can help with any flaws. Loved the video. ❤
Well said. People don't talk about that enough. I found I let myself go somewhat after all those years. I'm currently working on getting back into shape. Nothing looks good on a fat guy.
It is VERY difficult to accept the fact that although my sense of style is youthful, my body is not. I try to workout and eat healthy (as much as I can) because in order to wear the clothing I like you must be willing to push yourself to be at least somewhat lean and fit.😎
Great video but I walk a lot in the city and hence I need soft shoes. Having dress shoes all the time will just destroy my feet and body in the long term. Thats the way it is. I am not going to sacrifice long term injury when I am older to play the part for fashions sake.
Check out Mephisto shoes. They make nice leather walking shoes, with many dress styles. I walk a _lot_ and they are as comfortable as any sneakers I own. And they look perfectly right.
I have weak ankles. Ever since I was a kid. So for my own health, I have to wear boots, high top type shoes, or at least something with some good ankle support. Needless to say, you don't see me in shorts very often.
@James_p; yes and no. I did wear Mephisto for most of my life till they stopped making the classic model I did always wear. I tried other models of Mephisto but they didn't fit well. Mephisto did lose more then one customer by stopping that model I heard at my shoeshop. I have difficult feet maybe. Now I go for low walking shoes which you can have in any color and material including leather and suède. Except with suit, then I wear "normal" leather shoes.
... I'm 56 and proud of it! I wear Moncler, Belstaff, Canada Goose and Stone Island etc. My footwear consists of Adidas Gazelles, Adidas Gazelles and more Adidas Gazelles. However atm I'm currently wearing the Cloud 5's from ON. Happy New Year to you all x
Age is just a number. Everyone should wear what they like and what they feel comfortable in. Regardless of whether others like it or not. If someone doesn't like the way I dress, they don't have to look at me. No one should let others tell them what to wear.
I was 59 and began to question my style. It was no style. And I began running through internet . Now (61) I wear stylish things that go well. I refuse to wear fashion.
Sneakers or training shoes here in gb are just the lazy choice, people wear them with anything ,I hate seeing branded trainers on older men,,it’s just they are so used to wearing them,.,fine for the gym or out walking but please don’t wear them on a night out if you are older than 30.
I disagree with statement that you shouldn’t wear bright colors after the age of 50. I love bright colors, especially in sweaters and constantly get compliments. I also wear sneakers but leather ones, which look more like shoes. In my opinion what ages any man is facial hair- I can’t stand beards or moustaches! Clean shaven is always the best. I am slender and tall, so I feel lucky that I can still wear same size clothes that I wore 30 years ago. Genetics, I guess…
Preach gee I hate hair it holds scent to, I agree wit everything u said I luv mY little bright colors in between, u no wat I mean gee, am 56 and still hav the same size like wen I was 17. 18 real talk gee I get compliments all the time am on the short side like 5/6and a half but slim wit a nice chest 😆 🤣 but neat I don't look my age and never carry facial hair in my life ,as u say with the weight thing GENETICS AND AM BUSY BODY
I simply don't buy all that neutral color monochromatic nonsense. I too am a fan of some bright colors - my olive skin simply doesn't work with muted colors and earth tones. And we should all wear colors that flatter our skin tones regardless of age. My neutrals are charcoal and navy (NEVER black - contrary to popular belief, one of the most UNFLATTERING colors), golf shirts and sport shirts are more fun with some tropical brights, deep navy and palest pastels along with plain bright white. Most important is buying well made, quality garments that are classically styled. You will never see me in cargo or workout shorts, sweatpants, message T-shirts, logo fleece tops, square toed shoes or any of the ridiculous clothes people wear today. I learned classic style at an early age working in a very traditional family owned clothing store that for over 80 years sold shetland, lambswool and cashmere sweaters from Scotland, beautifully made cotton chinos and corduroys, Oxford cloth, pinpoint and madras shirts and real Lacoste polo shirts. The trendy stuff they had would come and go season after season, but these clothes were the constants and you could build a whole wardrobe with a few key pieces and the right colors. Still have some of those Shetland sweaters after over 45 years; I took excellent care of them; they are not dated at all and are completely appropriate for casual wear or worn with a pair of wool gabardine trousers ...
Personally I'm more subdued, but I see nothing wrong with that at all. I think it depends on who you are. When I was a musician playing in rock bands, I'd purposely wear 'louder' colors. Also, being short, Loud colors can make me appear bigger by drawing attention to me. Not taller, but bigger. If I was to play music professionally again, I'd definitely switch up my style to something that attracts a little more attention. I did just order some pretty whacky shirts.
That’s why everyone laughs and talk behind your back. If you’re telling me you wear bright colors and you’re over 50. Trust me, you look like a fool. A clown trying to be young
It would nice if more of the models wearing the sophisticated look were over 50 or 60. Yes there were some but not enough. What about styling glasses? Most OG wear glasses.
Great leather dress shoes and dress shirts. The problem with buying dress shirts now is they are making them in mostly trim and skinny sizes which are not masculine. In my neck size most new dress shirts don’t fit anymore. I pulled out some that are 20 years old and with my neck size fit nice with plenty of room. With all that said, sometimes it is great to find older dress shirts 2nd hand that were never worn to fit our age.
Men with white hair should not wear a beard, it makes them look very old!! Both the head and the face are white, so at 40 you'll look like you're 70! - You should avoid a beard, especially if you want to appear fresh and youthful. Or at least just wear a very short one, a stubble. But if you want to look old, that's of course up to you
Odd thing, while my hair isn't very grey for some reason, my beard totally is. I don't care if I look old. I AM old. No reason to hide it. I don't care if I look old, as long as I look good.
@@mrax101 Your hair isn't gray, so the beard doesn't look bad on you. What I meant is that when men have almost white hair and a white beard, it looks really old. This is not necessary because if you trim your beard, it will simply look fresher and younger.

Some men can get away with wearing certain clothes that are youthful. As long as a person is comfortable in what they wear that's their business in what they choose to wear.
