- A demo/tutorial of installing Fender Locking Tuners into a 2017 Fender Standard Telecaster. The tuners work really well, and have definitely improved the tuning stability of the guitar.
I cleverly watched this AFTER installing the new tuners and of course got the stagger wrong. Thanks to Fender for NO instructions on stagger, and for representing the tuners as from Coronado, CA when made in Taiwan. Thanks for the great tutorial. I’ll fix the stagger tomorrow.
I had these locking tuners on my Player Plus Strat while I owned it briefly. They are incredible at keeping tune. I just picked up a Player Telecaster just like yours and I’m looking at adding the locking tuners or vintage.
I have the same problem. Thanks, you help me a lot! The only reason I would use Fender locking tuners is because of the F logo =). Great job!
This video helped me a lot when I installed the Fender locking tuners on my Mexican Tele. Thank you.
Thanks very much! Explained well. Great job ! What a difference Chris.
Damn, that voice. Will you read me a bedtime story?
Love the new intro and great video!
Raw Sugar Thanks so much!!!
Cool
I found the same issue with my 2018 mexi tele special edition. The guitar is amazing. Plays good. Just the tuning. Thank you for showing the right way to stagger and everything else because as soon as I saw that two of the tuners had 2 taly marks and 4 had 4 taly Mark's I was really confused. This helped me out a bunch
Carter Gooding That’s awesome to hear and I’m glad the video was helpful!!
Good stuff. My first stop is always the nut when I have tuning issues.A little graphite or something there solves a lot of problems. Good tuners will generally help tuning whether locking or not.The main advantage for me with locking tuners is ease in changing strings. :)
Ransom Baggins Fully agree :)
Ease in changing strings is the ONLY reason for locking tuners. A higher ratio of 18:1 is what gives better stability.
I have a 2017 telecaster with original tuners and it always stays in tune, never slips!
44scoots Probably but best check with Fender.
i have a 2017 traditional 70’s tele and was thinking about getting some locking tuners for it. would these fit?
What a voice...barry white
Neck dive? Just wondering there was a difference in weight that caused 'neck dive' problem?
Did you notice on your old tuners that the 3 shorter posts we're on the lower strings E A D
I wonder if the looking tuners purchased from Amazon are knockoffs made in Taiwan and the ones purchased from Fender are originals?
great video!!! did the tele improve staying in tune?
george velasco Thanks! It sure did!
@@Cerotonin I have a 2017 telecaster with original tuners and it always stays in tune, never slips!
I just bought a butterscotch affinity squire tele...will these tuners fit my new guitar?
These tuners are a direct fit on Fender Mexican Standard/Player, American Special/Performer, and American Standard/Series/Professional guitars. They can also go on other fender models, and Squiers, but not without modification. I think you’ll probably need to drill new holes for the guide pins.
I have these on my American Professional Tele, and Mexican Standard Strat, they are great tuners.
Great video! I have the same guitar love it but I have the same issues with tuning. Could you send me a link for these?? I don’t want want to buy the wrong ones and have to modify the holes.
Thanks Will! I believe there is only one Fender Locking Tuner replacement available, so you shouldn't have a problem. I got mine on Amazon.
will miller make sure you get right hand or left hand, depending on which your guitar is. Thomann supply Fender left handed locking tuners if you are a leftie. Most of the other major retailers will supply right handed tuners. I put the Fender left hand locking tuners on my left handed American Pro Tele and they work fine.
Will these fit my MIJ Telecaser with 1/4" tuner holes?
I'm not sure -- best to contact the manufacturer.
I have a early 2000's mexy tele semi hollow body. Will these work for my rig? it does not have staggered tuners as it came from factory. MZ200 series
I would assume so, but best to check with Fender for certainty.
@@Cerotonin Hey Chris I got my locking tuners and ready to install. In your video you did not remove the string tree. is it still required since the staggered tuners pull the strings at a lower angle? seems like I recall another video(some where god knows) where they removed the tree.???
Do they come in black???
Yes. I’m getting some
Ok i have an american Pro .. i want to do the locking tuners ... my guitar has two tall and 4 low (staggered tuners) all the fender locking tuners i see online are 3 tall 3 low.... (my guitar is a 2019 american pro) any difference having 2 tall as opposed to 3???
Go for it! I put them on my ‘017 American Pro, no difference in feel, sound, or playability, but better tuning stability, and it’s now easier/quicker to change strings. They are a drop in replacement, takes about ten minutes to install them on an AmPro.
I love using an automobile lug wrench to put tuners in. Hell, I don't even mind the grease. lol...just kidding...
enunciate, you don't have it.
