Modelers > Pedalboards... or Pedalboards > Modelers?

    • @gibson2623
      @gibson2623 18 днів тому +3

Modelers are just more practical. They are advanced enough these days to be a fine solution. For me is amp, cabinets and pedals.....but at home i use modellers and plugins which are the best sounding solution for recording at home on a pc.

      Why not Pedalboard + Modeler?
Stick a volume pedal and another pedal, could be your fav pedal, or a pedal that the cortex doesnt replicate the best, maybe a Strymon Cloudburst

@@jrmyg1621 That definitely can work!! Lots of people do it! To me, that semi defeats the purpose since I bought a modeler to replace my pedalboard. If I start adding pedals in, I’m sort of back to where I was before… maybe just with a smaller pedalboard. But pedalboard means cables which we all know is my least favorite part of pedalboards! LOL!
Long story short, if I had 2 QCs, I’d definitely consider one in a pedalboard setup with maybe an HX One and a BigSky on it!

Hi Justin - Oh that's such a bummer to hear that the cables came out and can understand that travel is so hard on your pedal board. How much easier is it to travel with a quad cortex - you are a tone master - so love that YT challenged you to keep working on the Quad Quartex to get the signature JM Sound. Great idea on the parallel routing. Love that you were able to get it to sounds, just like you. You are right...there's always room to grow - so cool that you are able to do some captures of your own equipment. Wow, I can't even hear the difference. Interesting how just the volume pedal can even impact the sound. Great point on having effects that you don't use enough to buy separately as a pedal. Looking forward to more info on the new updates. Awesome video as always!

Hahaha!! Well, I haven't used my pedalboard live since last year. I haven't used an amp live since 2020 (I think...). But I do use my amps at home in tandem with the QC from time to time!

I used to take the big board out to church, but taking up a smaller amount of floor space just feels much better now. While I'm not in that stage of life right now, I would definitely go with the QC over the board, and yes, have the board at home. Great video man!

Yeah, I used to hate on modelers til about 5 years ago. Technology has advanced so much. I bought a Helix and that convenience factor is huge. I just switch to QC after using the Helix for 5 years. There's definitely pro's and con's to it. The amps and drives are way better on the QC, whereas, like you mentioned, the effects could use some more options and Helix wins there. What's there is good and very usable though, but more options are much welcomed especially as a worship guy myself. QC has a ton of room to grow and it seems like it's probably a year out from being where it needs to be it's just gonna be up to neural dsp to listen to the community and implement these things.
Things off the top of my head I wish they'd add:
    - The ability to change orientation/reverse bank up/down. I understand going from a to b and b to c is technically "up," but my mind views it as going "down" a set list and throws me off.
    - Some sort of command to get to and from the grid when in stomp/scene/preset mode. This is a pain when using live and having to bend over to utilize the touch screen.
    - Ability to edit colors in stomp mode to help differentiate effects. Also, editing the name of the effect itself.
    - Ability to turn leds off as opposed to just dimmer versions. I still get confused on whethere or not the effect is engaged or not.
    - And again, MORE EFFECTS OPTIONS PLEASE.

@@andrewshively6475 Sounds like you’ve been on the modeling journey yourself!! Those are really cool suggestions/feature ideas! That’s maybe the best thing about it being software based, that it can continue to improve.

Have you ever had the chance to compare it to a Fender Tonemaster Pro? Maybe another musician had it. I'm kinda on the verge of buying either of those units ::)

Thank you so much!! I haven't personally tried the TMP but I see people talking about it in my comments section often. I might be wrong, but I don't think the TMP has a capturing feature, so if that's important to you, then the QC and Kemper would be better options. I would go with the one that has the user interface that you're willing to learn. That's the thing that will really makes a difference to your experience!

QC too expensive? Hotone Ampero 2 Stage now has Capture feature and capability (..As a beta test mode currently, soon to be officially released at Namm?) QC is amazing (..4 instruments at once??) , but the Hotone is a great alternative if you're on abudget without sacraficing sound quality.
