This battle has a sense of irony. Cao Rui was alleged to be Yuan Xi’s son, and then he sent Sima Yi to wipe out the Gongsun clan. The clan who murdered Yuan Xi and Yuan Shang.
Yuan Tan died before them. They were defeated by Cao Cao and sought refugee under Gongsun Kang, but he was afraid of Cao Cao’s army so he killed them instead.
Guo Huai is also a Wei officer with Sima Yi and Xiahou Ba as he served alongside Zhang He and Xiahou Yuan at Mt. Dingjun and had been pretty close to Xiahou Yuan
Kinda weird to think that Sima Zhao, the guy who won the war, was a generic officer up until now. I always got a little chuckle out of it whenever I saw generic Shi and Zhao in WO1 and 2. I love the addition of the Jin kingdom. Sure, it's basically Wei part 2, but it's so nice to finally have some resolution to this war, and the characters are great. Some of the best in the series. Well... except Ba.
***** Right or not, he feels something of a wasted character slot. He leaves Wei before you ever get a chance to know him, so he may as well just go in the Shu category. 8 fixed that somewhat, but he's still not a particularly enjoyable character.
That's not exclusive to Xiahou Ba though, a lot of characters in DW7 are wasted, some of them don't even show up in the story, Bao Sanniang being new to DW7 doesn't even show up. I like Xiahou Ba for him having a good reason for turning so it makes it interesting, but Koei definitely could of portrayed him better.

She was probably only included as a set with Guan Suo. Though, in DW7 she does have something Ba doesn't. A unique moveset :P
Whats it matter if they are fictional or not? Everyone is literally fictional characters at this point, it's based on the dramatized novel, not the actual history. Letting the history or the novel dictate how you view the characters is the wrong way to go when it limits your enjoyment. Bao Sanniang is definitely a wasted character, they should of made her look like a strong warrior than a peppy girl. Xiahou Ba is a completely fine character, he just got the short side of the stick where he is disliked on the basis of him being a traitor. The story should of let the players sympathize for him for why he did it.
That purple fan is an end-game tier weapon so he won't get it from the Story Mode. Though even if Xaldin had it I doubt he'd use it since it makes the game too easy.

Dw7 was the best in my opinion, nice set story and it ends at a decent period within their respective forces

Well DW doesn't change physical descriptions and Yi was 21 when Chibi happened while Shi was 30 in this chapter and Zhao was 27.
