    Why is it absurd? I’m still holding my base set, jungle, fossil, and rocket collection. I have no desire to sell at all

    • @katielowen
      @katielowen 7 місяців тому +3

      That’s totally fine. You’re not investing you’re just collecting. 😉

    • @Socherbal
      @Socherbal 7 місяців тому +1

      @@katielowen well, that’s not true either. Never said I would NEVER sell them. I am also “invested” in a bunch of other sets. Btw, you dont have to sell something to invest in it. There are multiple reasons to invest in something, the simplest being that you are hoping for your investments to be a hedge against inflation. I’m invested in the stock market too. I’ve never sold any stock. Only purchased. I guess by your reasoning I’m not invested in that either

      @@Socherbal It's not absurd to hold it for that long, but the majority of people say it when they don't really mean it/think about what that really means.

      @@Mejoree113 I just thought it was strange. From my perspective, if you don’t have the patience or the money to invest in something and just sit on it for 20 years, you are investing in the wrong thing. Pokemon is not and will never be a get rich quick scheme

    The "SV is bad/heavily disliked" take is one driven by the investors and the drabs of the 2020 era people that want to make a quick buck imo. A lot of collectors like it, pokemon fans love the games and Gen 9 Pokemon, I reckon the price will increase decently in the coming years when people look back and realised how good the cards are, kind like how people are already changing their opinion on Chilling Reign which a lot of people criticised when it first dropped, same with a lot of SW/SH sets.

    I appreciate this topic. As I was playing as kid in 90s and got back to hobby in 2022 I see so many "investing pokemon channels" nowadays and it seems the market is very saturated with "investors". I love pokemon and I am pure collector, but do like to keep a pulse on the value of my collection so I watch a lot of investing channels. I just feel there are so many people who are holding their sealed product. If everyone has the same idea profits will take longer to make and all this very subjective but if you are an investor you have to make sure you have an exit strategy.

    I just love holding on to stuff for years and years. Started Pokemon investing around 4 years ago, just buying and holding. I'm just addicted to buying things and seeing value increase without doing anything (thats why I also own stocks, digital items like csgo capsules, other tcg's sealed and even a bit of crypto). It feels like something is working to create value for me while I'm doing other things. Also I'm just too lazy to sell it and just like to see everything grow over time. In the last 4 years my Pokemon collection value made a amazing increase, so as long as I keep believing in Pokemon I'll just not sell anything. Great video mate, keep it up :)

    Sealed pokemon products have always and will always appreciate in value. Ppl said the same exact thing when Evolutions was printed to oblivion. Well guess what they're now 800 dollars a box. If people could just be patient and play the long game then their patience will be rewarded.

  • @Teacherguy06

    Yeah I bought many Collection boxes and stopped doing that on your advice (plus space issues) . Now I buy booster boxes and will hold until they 3x...maybe 3 years maybe 5 plus years. Either way we all should have a realistic exit strategy. Perhaps buy duplicates if we become emotionally attached to them.

  • @slayerzerg

    space is a real issue. i don't collect ETBs and collection boxes for that reason (except a few celebrations and ES). as a long time collector i've learned to consolidate my collection into just a few items, which naturally ends up just consolidating my collection into only expensive items. maybe offload half of your collection boxes and pickup a sun & moon booster box or something to save space and avoid repetition for more diversification.

  • @DamaCollectsCards

    To be fair, all the product your holding is super one dimensional in terms of this hobby. You're discounting Japanese boxes/collection boxes, newer simplified chinese products that will go up due to the chinese audience going up like crazy, even niche thai and indo products will move. There's also promotional contents that can typically move upwards faster than an ETB or Booster Box like Pokemon Center exclusives, GYM Promo cards like the JP Koraidon and Miraidon, slabs that can be moved insanely fast to net profits to reinvest into more product if done correctly, etc.
    I think the most safe way to "invest" into product is by buying the base level modern English sets, but most people who buy them just open it anyway due to a underlying gambling problem they don't acknowledge is present. Most people won't hold product due to the fact it doesn't "3x" in 3 years. Most products literally take 5-10 to get wild or ridiculous in terms of value. Even then, it depends on the set. Also, print for modern is insane. Lots of older sets hold high value now due to lower print, in 10 years there will more than likely still be an abundance of Sword and Shield. Just some things to think about.
    Overall some decent points though man

    You know which people are going to most likely not be able HODL? The ones who just started in 2020. Those people who've collected abck in the 2000's up to the 2010's are the ones that understand how things take forever in the hobby. Most folks who started in 2019-2020 because of the pandemic are not going to be around 8-10 years from now.

    Theres nothing wrong with holding product for any amount of time. It may not apply to you because for you that money is truly a huge investment. For others they can casually toss a few thousand dollars and be perfectly fine. Where as you need to sell sooner. Thats all. Nothing wrong at all. Just doesnt apply to you

    So you made a video to say 1-people wont hold for 10 years and 2- they will have to sell for real world stuff that occurs and 3-they dont have space? Sealed products will always increase in value however just like with anything in life, everyone should manage their expectations. I wouldn't be so quick to make assumptions about people's collecting habits. So I wouldn't say "im a hater" however I definitely feel it's kind of wreckless to say people are going to do xyx based on your experiences and assumptions. Everyone is different and to my point, I've been collecting sealed since before the boom and will continue to do so and I have plenty of space to do so. Yes, not everyone is me however I'm not posting YT videos saying that everyone should do what I do because thats what I do. To each his/her own, thanks for the video

    It's easy to say you can hold onto something for years when the price is going up. But when the market is going down or stagnant you don't know when to cut your losses.
    I brought some Flesh and Blood just before the Crypto crash and it'll be years before I'll be years before I will break even, if ever.
