As a Screenwriter, this gives me some mixed emotions. On one end, I love the idea of making the words from my scripts jump from page to screen without having to go through the grind of raising funds for my film, finding locations, paying for Actors, Crew, Craft Services, etc; HOWEVER, the other part of me feels like with this, something has died and the pros I listed, are also cons. This is like video killing the radio star, but we are witnessing the murder of MULTIPLE facets of the film and gaming industry, across the board.

@@DeusExMachina50 I ABSOLUTELY thought the possibility was viable during the recent strikes. I imagined this scenario:
A future WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike could linger on for weeks to months, causing the industry as a whole, to lose money. To retaliate, studios/networks/streamers, etc could turn to advancements in Chat GPT to tell it this, in regards to a tv show that they hoped would see multiple seasons- "Here are the screenplays from the first three seasons from XYZ television show. We want it to go on for six seasons. Please, based on the characters, plot, trajectory of the story, etc, create the screenplays for the next three seasons at 10 episodes per season."
Now, with the progressions of the visual aspects of A.I. and where it could go, I could see the industry telling Writers and Actors in the future, "You wanna strike? Fine. STAY ON STRIKE. We no longer need you."

Too many bizarre anomalies in these early gen videos (i.e., malformed human hands, objects suddenly disappearing and then reappearing, etc.) to be replacing humans just yet. These tools can best be used now to create early drafts, mood boards, mock-ups, etc.

You know what, I was gobsmacked at the first Sora demos but as time went on I don't appreciate them as much because I know they aren't 'real'. I don't even know if that makes sense, does anybody else feel this? Don't get me wrong, it is an engineering marvel of mind-blowing magnitude but there is something missing. The closest analogy I can think of is my fondness for traditional SFX over CGI.

I work in post production. Im 23 years old. I wanted to be an editor.
Alot of my colleagues, coworkers and cohorts consider my worrying to be held inauthentically.
"AI will never be able to be as creative as humans!" they recoil. "AI has no soul!" They grasp. "AI is a long long way off!"
Im in awe at how asleep they are to all this madness. We are seriously on the brink of the new age of humanity. Self-learning, self-replicating machines based off the fundemental known aspects of materialistic and biological human brain interfaces.
If the simple division and slow biological evolution of bacterium eventually formed consciousness, then what the hell is stopping a much faster, far less handicapped AI from doing the same damn thing.

Have you seen any Sora footage with audio? Actual lipsync to the footage. I have not. AI will mostly impact stock photo, stock video creators, and the pornography industry. OpenAI has had an partnership with Shutterstock since July 2023. That's not new. It will enhance our ability to really get what we want from stock for creators. That's a win for us. For now we will find out how we adapt these new technologies to workflows and most of it will get tossed to the way side when we figure out the scope of productivity. Stop freaking out, embrace the technology and allow it to enhance your creativity. People are lazy, it's a fact. It still takes work, even with AI, to create something great. Sora is a great way to weed out the defeated and lazy people from the job market, more than anything.

I'm sympathetic to the notion that humans will always want to see things created by other humans- but the flaw here is obvious; beyond a certain level of fidelity it will be impossible to know what has been made using AI and what has been made by a human, so there is no way that even the most sincere human creator will be able to prove that they are in fact human.
Even this video could- theroretically- have been made using an AI Avatar with a cloned voice- there's no way to be sure anymore and that will certainly become harder in the future. In fact we will all be forced to assume that the media we see is AI generated, if only to protect ourselves from the tsunami of scams and fake news that is sure to follow the public realease of these types of tools.
There's something almost apocalyptic about the fact that, having moved much of our shared reality into the online space, we then create tools that shatter any possibility of trust inside that online space. The analogy would be if someone invented a technology that could create perfect visual and auditory illusions in the real world, then casually distributed that technology to general public- imagine how unstable physical reality might seem if you could literally no longer be sure that the things you saw and heard around you were either real or fake?

Yeah, no. All I see here is a very specific, narrow kind of nightmare-surrealism. That's a tiny fraction of what filmmaking is. And as for the balloon head one - you could get better results, I don't know, 10 years ago, maybe even more, with just a stock footage monthly subscription, a few quickly made shots of balloons and After Effects - and you would have MORE control over final output. Add a simple DSLR and a gimbal and you would far exceed this result. This is idiotic - it's not solving real world problems of any kind.
