I remember watching this as a young teenager. So awesome. Wish they would've shown the conversion and him pulling the fingers to the crowd haha. What a legend.
People need to take off their crusader eye patches and realise this guy was a fantastic 5/8. I'm a crusader till I die but am big enough to give credit to a class player. The conversion of this try added salt to the wound as it denied the crusaders a bonus point. One of the great moments in super rugby!!
....It's September 2023. Your comment, 10 years ago and the Crusaders 7 more championships. Spencer and Matua Parkinson have a show on TV starting tonight, they're in France for the RWC. Funny thing.
King Carlos!!! The best team that year! Sam the hitman Tuitupou, howlett and the rocket man in their prime on the wings man miss that blues spirit! Cmon blues!!!!
Carlos Spencer = an truly amazing individual. His vision on-field was exceptional and revolutionary. King Carlos was a player who was ahead of his time. As the footage shows, Carlos Spencer's wizardry with ball in hand was sublime and an art of unparalleled dominance in the 15 a side game of Rugby Union. Being the master of unpredictability, he often single handedly blasted opposing teams off of the park. He was nothing but pure magic.
Growing up in Auckland, everyone wanted to play like the Blues, especially the way Spencer played. I love his dual with Andrew Merts at the pivots. Both players brought something different to the game. Merts tactical kicking, lethal cut out passes and leadership was a threat to the Blues. Los’ creativity made him unpredictable and entertaining to watch. In 03, I would wish that Merts started at 10 and Los closing it off at second half. That would confuse Eddie Jones as his defensive strategy was designed to shut down Carlos.
Look at this backline: -Devine (AB) -Spencer (AB) -Rokocoko (AB) -Tuitupou (AB) -Gear (AB) -Howlett (AB) -Caucaunibuca (could’ve played in ABs, if he wanted) -Muliaina (AB)

Rokocoko: Good for a while then lost it. Tuitupou: one test failure. Gear: quite fast but short career, ok finisher but no game changer. Howlett: genuine AB. Caucau overweight and injury prone finisher, low work rate without the ball in hand. Muliaina: genuine classy AB. Conclusion: 2 maybe 3 influential players

@readbenjamin Couldn't agree more. It was brilliant. The Cantabs got all "oooh" over Spencer giving them the "F you", but quite frankly, he'd put up with so much crap from them over the years, I'm glad he got to give some back. I miss Carlos Spencer's brilliance. He is the king.
@ZenonHD1 He walked right into the corner to try and use up the last 30 seconds. The funny thing was the Crusaders were behind by 7, which meant they would get a bonus point if the Blues missed the conversion. The commentators said Carlos was stupid. Then Carlos nailed the kick. Blues win by 9, no bonus point for the Crusaders.
@@rogerpattube watch the video again, marshall was tailing spencer on the inside and had him covered but then gave up when collins threw it back inside to spencer.
