- Sorry about the quality. I have what is really a still digital camera with video capabilities - not a video camera. Also I didn't get the whole choir - there were lots of heads in the way so my apologies to all the boys.
Anyway, this was part of the concert performance of the 2009 NMMEA New Mexico All State High School Mixed Choir under the direction of Dr. Henry Leck, singing ROSAS PANDAN, followed by a little talk by Dr. Leck.. The arrangement is by George Hernandez , the language is Visayan, and Rosas Pandan is the mythic Bisaya maiden, symbol of rustic beauty and virtue.
Here is the translation of the lyrics:
Here I am Rosas Pandan,
coming from the mountains
to be with all of you
to celebrate this festivity.
This "Balitaw" is my only offering,
the only legacy from my forefathers.
A song that is ancient,
the pride of our mountains.
Here is my "Balitaw"
as I dance beautifully to it.

I am so impressed. They are very good.
The only negative comment that I can say is the lyrics were changed to..
“Nagtan-aw SI Inday. Nagtabisay ang laway”
From…
“Nagtan-aw KANG Inday. Nagtabisay ang laway.”
Because of that slight change, the meaning was also changed.
It was Dodong (the guy) who was looking at Inday (the dancing lady). Dodong was salivating.
It was not the other way around.
Nevertheless, I am so grateful to these foreigners who have sung the song so nice, and who have helped in promoting this Filipino folk song.

i was so amazed of this American Choir can sing this Visayan folk song I can never imagine the lyric is foreign to them but they sing it pretty good. Rosas Pandan was only play on a Radio and JukeBox in a 50s& 60s song by Susan Fuentes it also play this song when there is a benefit dance for fund raising, that was then and now its all over the globe,I'm glad I was born on that era when all the music is really a music not a crap. I am also a Visaya from Davao City , thanks.

Yes, you're right! I hadn't realized that until you mentioned it but this is 2 mins 45 secs and I went back and checked and the rehearsal version lasted 10 seconds longer which is quite a lot really!

You should've seen how agitated Dr. Snow was with the tenors in 2007 for speeding up the tempo in Battle of Jericho....we all wanted to run with it but once the Tenor line took the melody, there was almost no stopping those boys

Really good pronunciation, but the only thing I have to say is try to remove your English pronunciations of Filipino (i.e. Cebuano) vowels, especially the "I" sound. Some small problems with the "ng" sound, but really good! :)

desi derata There was International Choral competition during those years, I think if I remember right, it was in 2007 to 2010 . Competitors around the world has to sing two songs and Rosas Pandan was chosen as the
Rosas Pandan was chosen as the competition song that all participating nations has to sing as their 2nd song. So it’s been sung by all choral competitors from Europe, Asia , USA, Russia , Australia, New Zealand etc. So I’m really proud to hear almost all of them sing Rosas Pandan
