Well, how to best explain it...
In an era, where way too many AAA Games just do the very same each year, where microtransactions are running rampart and pay2win is the norm, with an abundance of waaay too many computer games , she (Fitgirl) is the modern day equivalent to Robin Hood, 'stealing' from big corporations and handing it out to the financially not so fortune!
Okay and now without prosa: Fitgirl is a very very big playerin the so called repacker scene for cracked, i.e. pirated, games. So if you want to download a cracked version of a game you can't (or won't because piracy reasons) buy, you go to her repacksite and will most likely find a working version of it. Is this illegtal?
Yes, in most cases absolutely.
So why is it absolutely necessary, that she's distributing all these repacks then, just to steal from big gaming companies and publishers? Absolutely no, there are many important reasons for this act of digital piracy, just to name a few:
1. Being poor sucks. Yes, this is no food, your survival doesn't depend on it, it's no excuse to steal. But an important reason for many nonetheless.
2. Distribution limitations. Some games can't be legally bought in your country, e.g. due to licensing right or just for being on the index, australia has many 'forbidden' games.
3. Many games require nowadays to be online whilst gaming, even if it is just a single player game. SOme ppl don't have amazing internet or just don't want to be connected to online servers while playing alone at home.
4. Speaking of internet: we are talking here about repacks of cracked games. What does this actually mean? SOme publishers are lazy when it comes to the compression of the game files. Whenever a Hearthstone patch drops, i have to download almost the entire game again, like 3GB. I have a splendid 1000mbit flat connection at home, couldn't care less. If you have to pay per MB for your net, this sucks. Oh a new Call of Duty gets released? Welcome to over 100GB of download. BUT this can be avoided with proper encoding and compression, just takes a while longer to install since your cpu has to work a lot more during installing. SO whenever she does her job well, you can expect to have to download way less than 50% of the original filesize! Oh does she remove data then somehow to make the filesize even smaller? No, every file is the same as the original (well except for the cracked .exe files and such), it's just better zipping. Also, you don't have the extra bandwith to download ALL localizations aswell? Then you get to choose which ones you actually need, and other optional files (e.g. like 4k resolution textures when you play full HD).
5. Conservation of gaming history! Once you got to buy a game on a disk and this disk was yours. Nowadays you don't, you just download it from the company, but what if they stop to support it? How else are you going go play this game, hell even get it on your computer? Same as loads of music streaming site, or apple music and such. You get what they offer you. Or don't. Also it is about digitizing and distributing copies of many old games, for which you ONLY had physical media. Lost your Soul Reaver, Legacy of Kain CD? Aawww man, how do you wanna play it then?
6. A lot of modern games are ridden with copy protection, some even more intrusive than a regular virus from 4chan. Not only does this cost cpu power and other ressources, sometimes a game won't even start on your specific computer system. Get rid of the DRM at voila, you can enjoy your game! I myself had a few games that i own that i actually pirated (or to be precise, got the cracked files i needed) jsut to be able to sometimes even start them on my then rusty old pc.
7. As with most pirates and their likes, there is a kinda codex to it. And one of these 'rules' is: If you like the game, support the developer and buy it if you can! DId i pirate DIsco Elysium when it released? Hell yes, but 50€ is half my monthly free money. Did i love this game? Absolutely. So when christmas came around, i bought it during a steam sale. Twice, once for me, once for my sister as a present. :)
OH YEAH, almost forgot...
So what does this tune have in common with some repacked and pirated games on the internet?
Whenever you install ANY game from fitgirl, the installer starts playing this tune. To be precise, the version by RiveR - Solo unless for japanese repacks, then it's playing "Tsuki sayu Yoru - Fu rin Ka zan " by Hiromitsu Agatsuma.
And this is why so many folks in the (dark) web know and cherish this tune :D
