Using a Visual Calendar | Autism Tools | High Functioning Autism

Welcome to our channel! I am a blind mom of two daughters and wife to my husband Devin. I love to share inspiration, joy, creativity, and the reality of growth through the struggle, and through supporting one another. I share lifestyle, craft/DIY, mom-life, disability-awareness, disability-etiquette, and guide dog/service dog related content, videos, and vlogs. Our older daughter, Katie, is neurotypical, and our youngest daughter, Evie, has been diagnosed with High Functioning Autism. We are in the process of transitioning our channel from just Crafty Blind Chick topics to family topics and blogs that incorporate our journey and experiences as a family.

I'm sharing the visual calendar we have started using for our five year old daughter, Evie, who has high functioning autism. Evie has a really hard time with transitions and changes, and she has an especially difficult time with riding the bus or handling different routines different days of the week.
We began using a visual calendar with Evie in January. As you will see, our current calendar focuses on the mode of transportation and before and after school care routines since these are a big challenge for Evie right now.
We used a desk pad calendar from the Target dollar spot and printed photos of actual places and people on regular printer paper. I glued the photos to the paper calendar. We are working on moving to a magnetic white board calendar that we already have, but we'll continue with the paper calendar until we get that ready.

Go for it!! It’s just a desk size calendar and I put it up with command hooks! With his love of reading it would be a great way to include words as he becomes a stronger reader! So happy for y’all with that! Ev is struggling with reading... but it will come.
