There are tons of studies on breathing plaster dust -- short term exposure is practically harmless. Furthermore, even if it were toxic (it isn't), I'd rather spend a few minutes breathing it and have complications a few decades later than being crushed to death and dying *now*.
There was alot of dust from the plaster, making breathing difficult for a few minutes. This may be an acceptable trade-off to being killed by a collapsing house. But it should be studied, especially for people with breathing problems.
it looks like the earthquake imitating machine is going in all horizontal directions but not up and down, so its not very realistic. is there an explanation for this?
Yep. I was in an earthquake in Kyburz, Ca, around 1998 or 1999, and my bed was rolling, not shaking back and forth. Like a crowd wave at a major sporting event, only shorter, quicker highs and lows.

Can't go wrong with God given materials to build with!!
Have you though about building homes for the homeless in LA.
Was this a load bearing straw bale construction (Nebraska method) or a post and beam construction with straw infill?
Yes, it has a wood frame.

You are absolutely right. This is a stupid test. The most damaging quakes are the ones that displace earth vertically.

Extra ... jel' neko probao da pravi ovako nesto?
I didn't know that earthquake could go up and down :o
Yup
Unfortunity its illegal to build this type of homes in towns and near cities, which your left building in remote rural areas. 😔
