    My understanding was that the colored link on the main timing chain was supposed to match with the dot on the crank opposite from the line. In the video you showed the long parallel to the timing mark at the 11 o’clock position. Shouldn’t the colored link align with the dot on the crank at about the 3 o’clock position?

    Hi George, I am from the UK and I am in the process of setting up the timing due to the front pulley fractured and threw out the woodruff key on the crankshaft sprocket, I've just put a new woodruff key on and put a new crankshaft sprocket on but the woodruff key only just meets with the sprocket, maybe 5mm inside it's keyway, surely that is not enough to drive all the timing gears and auxiliaries, does the front pulley torque up to the sprocket to hold in place, I would appreciate your help and advice 👍
    Good job by the way, really helpful video 👍

    Why aren't the marks on the chain match up with the marks on the gears?

    • @daakrolb
      @daakrolb 7 років тому +1

      Yeah good point. I'm guessing that they originally did, but he must have turned it a few times. As I recall there are 2 orange or copper links and one blue link on the chain that need to align with the marks on the cam sprockets (orange/copper) and the blue link needs to align with a mark on the crankshaft sprocket.

      I noticed on the one I am working on, the secondary chains never lined up when the Mark's on the primary chain did. I'm not sure if the chain had been replaced before and they didnt bother or if they just dont bother with it from the factory. It really messed with my head, because it would have made my job a lot easier. I spent several hours researching to confirm that everything was aligned correctly when I had to replace the timing set and phasers for a customer.

    I followed the same process, but just for replacing the tensioner & guide for fixing the ticking noise. After putting everything back together, I am getting P0011 (Advanced Timing Cylinder#1) & P0301 (Cylinder# 1 misfiring), do you know what could cause this ? Do I have to adjust the timing now ? I didn't move anything in the belt other than just putting the tensioner & guide. Any jhelp from anyone is appreciated

    • @guesme307
      @guesme307 7 років тому +1

      This is how I fixed it...I had the timing jumped while releasing the tensioner pin. If it helps anyone.

    This is a tough job. I don't recommend this for anyone who does not have extensive mechanical knowledge.

      One of my first major jobs on an engine was replacing the timing belt, water pump, and valve seals on a 1992 Acura Legend V6 engine - talk about white knuckles. I would definitely get a second pair of eyes if you're crazy enough to attempt this job as a first-timer.

    • @daakrolb
      @daakrolb 7 років тому +2

      I concur. I had to replace my timing chain tensioner on my 2004 Maxima. LOTS of nervous work to replace that $18 part... Nissan wanted $2100-$2700 for it! Look up 2012Nugget. He has an EXCELLENT 2 part video showing the whole process. But yeah don't even think about trying this if you don't have decent mechanical knowledge and steel balls... I get anxiety just looking at this video... flashbacks.... it worked though...
