Great video as always, thanks. I would absolutely buy your book because you deserve a bit of recognition for everything you've done to document all these arms that would never see the light of day. Shame I'm in a rubbish place in my life. Maybe another time.
Your videos are so informative and enjoyable to watch that you have made me an even more monstrous gun collector! LOL! But thank you for teaching me about the MAS 49/56. I finally got one, and the scope, and the bayonet, and the butt pad for the grenade launcher and the sling, and anything I can find. I think I might love this gun more than any other one that I own or have restored or built. Great rifle! Thank you.
Ian, thanks a lot for your videos on the Mas series of rifles oh, I just picked up at a Mas 49/56 a few days ago. As I've read, the Mas 49/56 has a terrible trigger. That was very strange to me because mine does not. Because of this video I now know why. It has the plus symbol in front of the trigger, as you shown. Thanks a lot because it explained a question that I had. Keep up the great work!
Looks like a pretty good idea. They should have done this with the M14, but of course the scope mount is larger and more complicated. I have always respected the 49/56. I think we can still have them here in Kalifornia if the grenade launcher sight is removed (not sure about the muzzle device), and sans the evil assault pistol grip of course. With this setup here, assuming the scope is 3.5x or 4x, it looks like it would make a great DMR. In fact, i would like a 6x for that, just to be sort of traditional. Great video as always. Thank you
Just when I thought I had seen the last ad for his book, another one is included with the very interesting 49/56MSE. I now have a much greater appreciation for mine.
"HI Guys! Thanks again for tuning in to another video on forgotten weapons dot com"... Is Ian sick of saying those words yet? We all still love to hear them, keep up the great work!
@@yop_cholo Sorry mate, I feel with you. I would love to have an Austrian built FAL (StG 58) or the nice surplus Hirtenberg ammo Karl and Ian are using, but everything got sold to the US as well. My (snarky) comment was more regards the French militarys decision to go for HK.
@@forestalfrank1074 No worries, I didn't take it personally. ;) It does get frustrating, but it would seem you know exactly what I mean. Even Swiss rifles are getting more expensive with time.
Ah, an even rarer variant. Probably over 5000€, if available, in its country of origin. *soupire* Edit: haha just browsed a few French sites out of curiosity and the basic 49-56 is already 1800-2000€ when you can find one available.
I've seen one that resembles this but they'd added a m24/29 mg 25rd magazine I was wondering if it would actually feed properly as the mg magazine was meant to feed from the top !
How does the finer adjust on the rear iron sight work with the sight aperture? On the standard model, since you can only turn the screw in 180 deg increments, the aperture is always in the correct orientation, but this way wouldn't the aperture be vertical for half of the adjustment points?
Hehehehehehehehehe I mean barring price tags often stopping me from not being able to purchase something, the rarity of an object really hasn't done much in regards to stopping me from vigorously using something. I mean if I've paid a lot for something I'm definitely getting my money's worth out of it before it either breaks or I can no longer physically use it myself, never been much of a wall hanger collector. I remember coming down to the US to visit some friends and ended up buying an antique English cavalry sabre, first thing I did was resharpened the thing and tried it out a few times, to the horror of my friends.
howdy the MSE was never use in combat , only in military precision match shooting and had no scope the scope you show with the 03 window is only for the FRF1 , the other scope is for the sniper version of the 49/56 ( classic stock, with rubber slip on but pad )

Question I can't ask on the actual video, how come the Famas video (That keeps turning up at the end of these) not available in (at least) the UK?
UA-cam decided it violates UK law, and blocked it. That's nonsense, but I have been unable (despite repeated attempts) to change it.
Surprised they didn't hand select rifles for accuracy as well.
