- Today we replace a non-sport steering wheel on my BMW 520d Touring with an M-Sport steering wheel that is much thicker and features paddle shifters. The installation is simple and you can do it at home with a screwdriver, & set of spanners or sockets.
This guide should be suitable for any 5 series model from 2010 to 2013 (pre-facelift).
You can code your paddle shifters by downloading the Bimmercode App and enabling paddle shifters via the app.
I've been using this wheel for a week and the difference is amazing, feels so much better to drive and the paddles are working well.
I found this steering wheel from eBay and it cost less than $200 so it was a quick and relatively cheap upgrade for the F11 5-Series Wagon.

And paddle shifters.
Thicker wheel?
tnx for not showing if paddle works
Does it use the same airbag?
It worked without programming?
Nah you have to program paddle shifters if you didnt have them beforehand. bimmercode
Do you know if some F10s are prewired for paddles and some aren't? I have a good deal lined up on an LCI M sport wheel with paddles and I want to know if I need to wire anything extra besides just the steering wheel.
Mine was prewired in Australia and was quite a low spec car so I’d assume it is.
Hey! Did you end up fitting the new paddles?
Is this done on a bmw 520d ?
Where u buy it
Did u use the same airbag
Great Video, where is the paddle shifters options in Bimmercode, under what section?
Go into expert mode and search for paddles. You should find the option to switch to active.
@@projecteuroau what is bimmercode?
@@user-kp4dg2mu5h it’s an application you can download on your mobile that will communicate with your BMW via an OBD reader.
How did you connect paddle shifters on the wheel? Tnx
Good question
the new wheel has the paddles built in it's one unit lmao
I have a 2012 bmw 535i xdrive can’t I put paddle shifters in the original s wheel
nope
Thanks for this video! Do you know the thickness difference between the previous and the new steering wheel? Both in thickness and diameter?
I don't but I can check for you as I still have the old wheel. It feels much nicer though!
@@projecteuroau Would also like to know the thickness difference if you've had a chance to compare the two
