I've bought the original Shamwow and many imitations and they all worked great. The biggest difference between the real Shamwow and all others is durability. I found the original to be much more durable (8 years and 30+ washes later and still shammying). My original is now heavily discolored and fuzzy but still works great. The imitation ones would start to rip after about 10 washes (but they were substantially cheaper in price).
I think the shamwow did slightly better in the first test. Though it was dripping a lot, it absorbed all of the 1.5 cups of water. The knockoff was not able to absorb everything.
@Arrow Head Actually, yes. If it obsorbs, even if it doesn't hold, enough to get it tona sink or bucket or something, that can save some additional cleaning. It's not much of a difference, but it is a difference.
I use my Sham-Wows the way you demonstrated in your kitchen. They are great for this purpose. I'm down to my last one (I actually cut my large ones into 4 pics and they have lasted a lo-o-ong time)so I will be replacing them with the dollar store version. Thanks for the review and for saving me money.
Products like these has been around for a very long time. I remember some that came on the market about 40 years ago. They had both a cloth very much like these and a sponge with a surface that felt a lot like the same material. Their shtick was absorption and that they left a dry surface when you wiped something down with them. The cloths stuck around and has been easy to get hold of since then. I don't think the brand is the same but at least equivalents for the cloths are available. The sponges however didn't seem to catch on.
When you watch the video: Wow, the cheap one is so great! When you read the comments: Wow, the expensive one lasts so much longer! x'D The longevity is probably worth the extra few bucks, although I suppose it may depend what you want them for.
Love it, thanks man. My shamwow is about dead and was looking for a new one. Also wanted to see if there is a newer or similar product for less, and now.... I know thanks to you!
It's the same stuff but re-branded and without the overhead costs of running infomercials. It's like you can buy the store brand of acetaminophen or you could buy Tylenol, but they're both the same thing (acetaminophen).
Aww I love spooky. Bailey, and I love this channel! Thanks for the reviews and posting more content during this crazy time. I wish you and your family well!
We discovered ShamWow at the county fair years ago and fell in love but after finding an equivalent in the dollar store, that's where we go to get our supply.
Thank you for your more frequent uploads. I do enjoy your longer videos, but given how quickly we're all burning through things to do while at home, these are much welcomed entertainment. Thank you for all your hard work.
James, you could buy a simple kitchen scale, and use it to weigh stuff. For example, you place the measuring cup on the scale, and zero the cup out, and just weigh the water, then you could've weighed the shamwow, and the knock off to see how much water was in the items. You could use the electric scale all the time, just to note the weight difference, and change of weight. All kinds of stuff.
@@jomsies yea thats what people dont take into acount with cheaper stuff. Sure maybe my 20 dollar toaster will last 5 years while a 200 dollar one will last 20. But 4 20 dollar ones cost 80 for 20 years of use which is less than 200 hundo
What I could use are Sham Wow slippers....I usually put all my weight on them when using on carpet. They're really durable even for drying off the dog. Have had them for years.
The only thing I noticed different about the two is the longevity. The Shamwow just lasted longer but I mostly use mine for just mirrors and chrome so I don't go through them quickly.
I still have my rayon cloth, I remember I did a 3 paragraph comment about these ones and how I use mine every day. It's still just as good but mabey slightly less absorbent now 7 year so. It cant hold a full 1L anymore.
Good video. What about durability? How you enjoying the wind we are having? I'm loving the cool weather we got but will be nice when the wind calms down.
I bought a different version of the Dollar Tree "shamwow" and noticed how terrible it was immediately upon first use for drying a vehicle. There's a chance it works well in other applications as this video suggests, but I'm pretty sure the item I used was inferior quality of what you reviewed, James. Mine did not come in a sealed bag.
I own a couple of the dollar store ones and I just have to say that the performance is the same. Big difference is how it lasts. Like, if you're using it excessively, it's going to last a week / few weeks before it looks like a very old t-shirt. Performance also goes down once it deteriorates. I don't know how long an original shamwow would last, but I'd imagine it'd be worth the extra $ just so you don't have to buy often.
I've used both as well. I have had similar results of them performing the same but the shamwow lasts longer. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy again but I'm also not mad Vince got me at a state fair lol
The only difference I have noticed is how long each lasts. My Shamwow has outlived many of the Dollar Store knock offs. Don't get me wrong, I use them both, but durability lies squarely with the Original. 😁 Thank you for the Pet Cameos!! Love these mini videos and the somewhat more relaxed nature of them. Keeping things fun while the crazy is happening. 😷💗💗
@@tarstarkuszNope, Shamwow is getting their supply from Germany as well as the others of its price tier. But if you can find the generic German version, I suggest you buy that.
1 question James. When you did the head to head soda on the carpet test, were the shammys dry before you tested them or were they dampened? If they were dry then they would not absorb properly. They are meant to be damp before using. If damp before using fingertip pressure and rolled they will absorb the most liquid. My company has sold the german made shammy for over 35 years now.
Great review as always, clear and concise. I used to own a couple shamwow towels and I was never really impressed with them. They weren't bad, but they weren't amazing either. Maybe once this Covid business is over I'll take a look at the dollar store version. My cleaning rags are wearing thin and I can't stand to touch microfiber cloths so I'd love to find something cheap for cleaning.
Simply put. Would you rather dry yourself off after a shower with hand towels because they are cheaper per square inch or would you pay a little more per square inch to get a full size towel to dry yourself off with. Weigh your options. To me it depends on the job you’re going to use it for. I use my shamwow to dry my car after I wash it. I prefer the bigger surface area
You should compare those to cut blizzard fleece. I work at a petstore and I flood things all the time, and i use it more than the mop to clean up. Just buy fleece, wash it 2 times at the very least, with no fabric softener just soap, and it absorbs better than the dollar store one, but not as good as the sham wow because its thinner
I would buy the dollar store version. If Shamwow is absorbing a few drops more that can't justify the much higher price. Over 40 years ago when I was a teenager in Europe I saw a demonstration of a sponge that was pink, brick-shaped about 5x3 and 2 inches high. It sucked a huge amount of water by cohesion. I used it for years. I think it was made in Germany. I wish I could find the same sponge still.
I have shamwows I bought 12 yrs ago also, still works great. I still have 2 new ones from 12 years ago too. Lol I'll buy the dollar store one,if I find it..
Probably the biggest difference with the commercial versus your video is that in the commercial he didn't let the shamwow have a chance to drip. He picked up the water and then immediately moved it to a bowl and wrang it out. Its not supposed to hold the liquid for longer than it takes to clean up the mess. Btw i like you're vids.

I think that a good way of seeing how much water they hold is to weigh them. When they stop dripping.
Or just squeeze the water back in the cup to measure it
*-K. E-* you will not get all of the water out, some will be trapped inside
Direct Terms obviously, but weighing won’t tell you how much water it will hold
