It's easily one of the most realistic depictions of plate armor I've seen... it actually protects the wearer, can you imagine that. :D Tempered steel that can deflect and absorb even powerful sword cuts, instead of silver painted cardboard that the hero or villain just slices wide open.

They need to stop paying actors so much, I know big stars get people to see the film, but I think people are waking up to that trick, and there's plenty of talent out there. Imagine what Hollywood could actually do if they put there minds to it, if this is what is capable from as you said, someone with a low budget.

It's not particularly realistic combat.. this dude is way too fast and unarmored guys too slow.. As a viking age reenactor I seem to recall a fighting with fully armored knights in one festival, and we were just two against one knight, and we easily put him on the ground as he couldn't fight effectively against just two light armored vikings lol
Also if you will read about battle of Grunwald you will notice that there were many light armored peasants against fully equipped teutonic knights, and knights didnt just slaughter them like that lol
@@Rottensparrow If you have proper armour which is made espacaly for you, you are quite nimble and fast.If the armour doesent fit, it can hinder movement. Also it depnds on the physical condition of the fighter and his expirience. Also there are many Videos which shows the mobility of platearmour. This includes sprinting, wrestling and even shoulder rolls. So you can be quite fast in plate armor

Except he doesn't like the helmet. It was historical, but it was mostly used n imitation of the Corinthian helmets, due to a love for classical art, rather than for its tactical value. It's a crap helmet when compared to its contemporaries.

The sad thing is, this "film" was made by "some dude in the backyard" when comparing to all those big budget "proper movies", and yet it is infinitely better.
Adorea Olomouc is not "a dude in the backyard" they are a team of professionals and won "best action reel" at the Urban Action Showcase International Action Film Festival (New York). Not for knight of hope, though. But I agree, and to quote Metatron: "Somebody bloody hire these people when you want to make a movie about medieval times with fighting scenes".

Apart from what Jinx Head said, this was also made with the single purpose of being an excellent medieval fight scene.
Movies are much bigger projects, with hundreds of people, countless scenes, shots, props, events etc to keep track of. Movies have a whole different focus. It's a "jack of all trades" situation.
How is it a surprise that this is better? What would be sad is if it *wasn't* better.

Once half were dead, the rest should probably have ran off.
That always bothers me in pretty much every action movie ever. The protagonist killed 50 other henchmen, but number 51 still seems to think that whatever he's getting paid is worth the risk.
And in this one there is literally no profit or benefit in continuing to fight. What do they get if they win? Just a suit of armor that won't fit them and maybe get the lady back.
I was thinking when the knight showed up in a halo of light and fog the brigands should of freaked and ran in terror thinking the Archangel Micheal just showed up to go Old Testament on them. This is the Medieval period, there are no atheists or antagonistic and all the brigands grew up being taught God will judge them.

Even if they meet 7 strong ennemies and the 4 players just roll crazy crits and kill 3 round 1 ill roll secretly on there will to see if they flee

I have literally spent days just looking at the masonry and carpentry and examining the various equipment. I almost forgot there was a story at one point.

The most unrealistic part is that the brigands would break and flee after a few of them got cut down. Nothing is forcing them to fight. Great video though.

@@baronprocrastination1722/videos That would most likely be the case. Enough ransom money to buy everyone a house and food for years without work would probably be worth losing a few "companions" and a limb, so they pushed forward. Maybe not every bandit would agree, though.
i like the thrusting with the mace, too many times i've heard youtubers review something saying "you cant thrust with this blunt weapon" knight of hope says "if that is so, where did your teeth go"

Haha yea if the weapon isn't on a chain or a rope you can almost certainly thrust with it, it ALMOST doesn't matter what the shape at the end is if your opponent isn't wearing armor and you hit him dead on.

Yes. Only bad part in this might be, well camera and I can't blame them for it. This is low budget fan made movie and you can't expect dolly or crane or more cameras. And by bad I say it could be better, it is not awful.

That a fan movie labelled as fantasy is surprisingly more realistic that most historically bases Hollywood war movies says a lot.
His hand-to-hand fighting was pretty damn good too. I often find people forget that knights would have done extensive training fighting without arms.

I really liked the detail of the knight vomiting out of his helmet due to exhaustion.

I think he was coughing up blood from when they stabbed him in the throat.
Probably more like heat soak. Your body usually have that reaction when you over heat. Air force pilots get that too when they over heat.

He is wearing armor, but the tip might have pierced the throat. It's not necessarily lethal if you don't cut a major artery, but probably not nice to have blood running into your throat while you are trying to breathe.
I can tell you that being hit in the throat really hurts even if you are wearing armor, unless it's a plate neck guard.
I also suspect that the crossbow was meant to be a hunting crossbow (the brigand didn't have to use any spanning mechanism), not war crossbow.
That was my thought as well. It's effectively a medieval peashooter against plate. Though technically it didn't show him spanning the thing, even if it's obviously not a war crossbow.
Very possible. Given that random thugs would usually use what they could find, a hunting crossbow would definitely be easier to aquire and cheaper than a war crossbow. And for anyone who wasn't wearing full platearmor it would probably still be more than enough. And honestly, how often did random thugs fight a knight?
It didn't seem to have much *girth* behind it at all.
A heavy crossbow at THAT range would probably penetrate, bur why would some random robbers have a heavy war crossbow? The advantage bandits usually have is that they get to pick their victims and have the element of surprise. Against the knight, they only have intimidating numbers though.
Did hunting crossbows not have spanning mechanisms? Been trying to find an answer to this for a while.
Kingdom come deliverence instantly comes to mind seeing this. The armour system there is such an interesting thing. I remember when I got my hands on a full plate first time and felt invincible

Of the many things I liked, the bandits are choosing specific points to stab the knight not going for the Hollywood way of thinking by swinging weapons around like morons, and I also liked that the knight knew what to do in each situation

Yeah it makes sense. Also that they still lost. Sure, knowing that you need to go for the weak spots is easy. Doing that in the chaos of battle, while people are moving around you? And your target isn't just going to stand still to let you take your aim. Knowing it is one thing, putting it into action a wholy different thing. And naturally a knight would know these weak spots and at least in some form be trained how to best avoid letting enemies leverage them. SO that really is nicely done.
I dont really think they would know where to attack because in those days they might never have seen or heard about a full set of plate armour. Still some of them might have been deserters tho like skal said.
I was not prepared to hear that story about the fat knight.

I'm just amazed that they avoided any actual serious injuries during that scene.
And the knight's "u wot m8" reaction after the crossbow bolt hits him was perfect.
You can almost see the explamation point appear over his head when that bilt hit him😂
I do agree, that was a LOT of guys for one person to take on. However, as a knight, he's likely in much better health and physical condition than any of the brigands. He's probably well fed and rested as well, compared to a bunch of guys living in shacks in the woods. They may be malnourished and weak. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but taking that outright physical advantage into account, alongside his skill and equipment, it makes him taking on a large group alone seem a little more plausible to me.
The knight is also literally St. Michael the Archangel, General of Heaven's army. Her icon disappeared and he showed up in a pillar of light.
He pukes from exhaustion and overexertion right after the fight.

@@mallobag Yea..... Armor like that aint that heavy. Any average person could wear it for long lengths of time without issue. I think it'd weigh around 40 to 50 pounds. My girlfriend who's 5'6, sleep deprived all the time, and never works out can lift 50 pounds in her arms. Nearly anyone could wear it as the distribution is balanced and it's not too bad to begin with.
It's a fantasy movie because the knight is St Michael himself. Her icon of St Michael magically vanishes right before he shows up in a pillar of light, and then he hands it back to her right before disappearing back into the light.
TheAchilles26, being a Catholic myself who has considered taking on Saint Michael The Archangel as my patron Saint, I’d have to agree. I studied him for years, finding out what he is like, what he represents, and how God works through him. Nothing is out of character for him in the film.

I don't see why not. There are many action movies with fairly realistic fighting by trained martial artists. There's no reason sword choreography has to be more "dance" than actual fighting either.

I love how he knows he's got armor too, a guy misses his thrust and he just loops his arm around the sword and decks the guy.
I love the way he moves around, turning his head all the time, scanning for threats. Like a machine.
The head turning is also to do with the helmet restricting field of vision. Really great attention to detail.

iirc he used "lightsaber" not only for plate armour but 1) for all armour and 2) For those "one hit kill" instances when the person in question either should be fine or at least not dead yet
About him being sorta superhuman, he is literally summoned by her prayers. He is clearly sent to help her, not a random knight walking around that trips on the bandit encampment.
And it's still way more believable and entertaining than the best of Hollywood fight scenes.
It's a nice portrayal of a literal superhuman being only slightly better than their adversaries rather than completely unstoppable.

Remember kids, if you're fighting a guy in full armor,and have him very badly outnumbered, don't bother trying to surround and swing at him.
Swamp him, grab his arms, sweep his legs and get him on the ground. Work together to hold him down while one of you gets his helmet off then stab him in the face or whack him with a mace
Just because he's covered in metal doesn't make him a robot. armor doesn't give you superhuman strength, he's not gonna be able to just toss off 4 or 5 dudes each grabbing one of his limbs with all their might.
While that is true he has a pointy and sharp thing in his hand and won't be co operating. So it won't be easy. Not impossible but u will lose quiet few of your comrades.
@@aronnemcsik you'd lose less doing it that way then you would trying to poke at him and giving him more chances to swing at you. he'd have at most like one good shot before his limbs get grabbed. he's not gonna be some sort of anime samurai who can cut all 5 dudes rushing him at one time, and he's only gonna have time to maybe swing once.
@@Criminalupper2200 never said he would be an anime samurai or anything. But to take him down you need to attack in a coordinated manner. Which you and your comrades may practiced. Also the moral in the group won't be high if they see a massive guy in plate armor with sword in his hand walking towards them. So they might run away.
Don't get me wrong I'm not delusional or anything. I know they can overpower him and take him down. I'm not arguing with that fact. I'm just trying to find out how many person would die before they succed...

The opening 6 minutes and very ending heavily imply the knight isn’t human.

@@christianprieto5861 I does reference that he was summoned. Her medalion that she was praying to disappears and then the knight appears. At the end he hands her back the medalion and he leaves. I took it that he was summoned from the medalion.
They did say it's Fantasy.
I love that near the end one of the bad guys attempted a murder stroke with a longsword made me happy to see it attempted... Just wanted to point it out.

I actually find the rough quality helps make the fight feel more real. The knight constantly shifts stances, he doesnt go for ''clean'' cuts or smooth moves, sometimes he has to just bash a bitch. Even the axe throw, yes its an unlikely throw but its not a perfect shot, if you see it almost looks like it nearly missed with were it hits the face. He takes some damage, shows signs of exhaustion at having to fight for so long, brilliant
Honestly, I'd be more afraid of a knight with a belly. Imagine a 300lb pound thicc boi stomping around, yeeting peasants with a meaty warhammer.
Sadly IRL warhammers tend to be small.

cheng kuok Lee Yeah. Also, the parts of the video is skips over include the woman praying to Saint Michael for salvation, and after the fight, the knight gives the woman the symbol she had been praying with which disappeared shortly before his appearance.
@@chengkuoklee5734 That was my only nitpick, surely he wouldn't be alone. It takes time and other people to help you put on that armour so he should be at least 2 people. But yeah, if he's been sent by a saint, I guess it gets a pass :)

What comes to mind is how even a small cut could end with death and everyone knew it. Even animals know to avoid an actual fight unless nothing else works. Great video.

Unless I also have full plate then my choice is to go find the nearest deep water to swim across. Facing plate without plate? That's a hard nope from me.
Running away is more realistic, yes. But if we assume they don't run away for whatever reason, next most realistic is them winning handily (with maybe a few casualties but not 20). In far far distant third is this one guy slaughtering everyone somehow

@@brydonthunder A lot of knights trained grappling specifically to prevent or take advantage of being on the ground, mainly because being choked out by a naked peasant in a loincloth while wearing full plate is an embarrassing way to die.
I would highly recommend czeching them.

@@DavidEllis94 Actually, not as much as you'd think. Sure, you can punch wearing gauntlets, but there are ways you can optimize impact wearing steel shells over your hands that won't really work without the rigid striking surfaces.
Something I like about the channel is they show that you can lose your weapon and have to fight with your hands.

Umbrae Legios I just saw the guy that hits the knight with the polearm take a mace to the knee right after. It made me wince when I saw it. I can’t imagine what a mace to the kneecap would feel like 😫🤢

The thing that struck me most about this clip as well as their other stuff was that the fighting is accurate, but there was still the level of action and pacing you would find in any thing out of Hollywood.
The knight in this video actually employs quite a few real sword forms and combat tactics from that time period. He shield wrenches someone at one point, and that made me smile.
This movie just make me want to replay to Kingdom Come: Deliverance! I want to beat people to death by halfswording with a longsword! I love how this fantasy movie use techniques inspired from real 15th century swordplay instead of those ridiculous wide slashes that we see in every Holywood medieval themed series and movies. It makes it much more believable and interesting.
Hi, I am actually from Olomouc and I know couple guys from Adorea. I showed them your video and they really liked it and were really glad about your comments.
If high quality plate armor makes someone this tanky it would be terrifying to fight someone like this knight.
That's why knights pretty much got to do whatever they wanted to the lower class. Who's gonna stop him? Certainly not his buddies who are doing the same things.
It does make you this tanky.
Add on top of that the training people able to afford such armour almost certainly had and you would have to be suicidal to pick a fight with them in casual clothes and meagre weaponry.
Soridan I’d say it still somewhat depends on the individual’s tolerance to pain and concussions, in addition to footwork.
Implication that the knight is a literal manifestation of a patron saint aside, he did take some very real damage that would most certainly rock if not disable ordinary people.
Effective combat potential is still very much dependent on the person inside the armor, holding the weapon, and directing troops where command is applicable.

I'm merely saying that it is this hard to get through proper plate and it was terrifying to see a foe clad head to toe in steel when you have a helmet at best.
It makes you this tanky against blades, but it doesn't make you anywhere near this tanky versus grapples. This guy repeatedly just hurls enemies away from him and stuff despite 1) them being fresh and him already fighting for some time and 2) them having no weight and him carrying a whole harness... He should be at a significant disadvantage once you get past his weapons and are wrestling, even for just one on one let alone if they had 2+ guys piling on at once. Pinned, stab through the face, GG. Can he cut down a few people before that? Sure. Might they run away instead? Sure. But once he's in a wrestling scuffle it should have been over. Instead he gets out of it like half a dozen times. Aside from the excuse of "he's an angel, whatever"
It was made near my hometown, we play in that forest under the castle fantasy LARP every summer. Many our final quests were made in that place. :))

@@HiopX They very literally did that HipoX, they ran straight into the guy's range and waited to be struck. Being at a range and in a position that makes it difficult for the opponent to make powerful swings or get comfortable targets on you is much safer than waiting in striking distance to eat a mace right to the mouth like these goons did.

They did marvelous job. They are one of the best and they also fought as extras in some famous movie, Narnia was one of them.

To give the knight credit being borderline superhuman... He is literally a Saint, that appeared when she prayed for salvation. I think that probably gives him a little leeway to be superhuman, don't you?
Even then if he wasnt an incarnation of an archangel, its not completely impossible that a battle tested knight could have this level of stamina. Adrenaline is one hell of a hormone. Unlikely yes but so is lifting a car so save some one ect ect.

When he throws the axe, surely even if he did hit the crossbow guy with the handle, it would still cause serious damage if thrown with full power, right?
It'd sting, but it wouldn't nearly be enough to put him out of the fight. All of the weight and momentum in a thrown axe is in the axe head, the handle is just a wooden stick.
Most likely it would just hurt somewhat. I've been hit in the face with the handle of a thrown hammer (allegedly by accident) and the end result was a bruise, a short nose bleed, and me breaking my oath to never swear like a sailor.

Tons of that in the modern armoured fighting league stuff on youtube , they punch each other in the helmet.. alot , and you can tell without the helmet , your be really messed up , no teeth face split possible skull fractures and KO's a plenty.

I like the knight's helmet. The wide eyeholes give better visibility than the eyeslit you see on a lot of knightly helmets, and the there's enough of a gap in the front that he can breathe freely through his mouth and nose. Yet the helmet still covers most of his head and face very well.
Being able to see and breathe well was a very serious problem with a lot of medieval helmets. So it's nice to see that the producers of this film chose something that was very practical for the mission and the character of the knight.

Yes as someone who has delved in German history, there is a relatively big difference between landed kights of before the crusades and the trained and coordinated knights of the knightly orders like the teutonic order of north east germany or the knights Templar which formed after.
