'Weird Fishes/Arpeggi' - Oregon Koto-Kai (Radiohead cover)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лют 2022
- This performance of "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" was recorded and featured as part of Oregon Koto-Kai's 2021 Virtual Fall Concert. Original song composed by Radiohead, and the Japanese koto cover arranged by Josh Faber-Hammond. This was our first performance of the piece and our first performance in the same room together since the start of the pandemic.
The iconic song was the fourth track from Radiohead's album In Rainbows, released in 2007. It was selected for arrangement because its sweeping arpeggios and interlocking rhythms take full advantage of the koto's sonic range and traditional playing techniques. Each individual koto part is relatively simple to play on its surface, but the composition's understated use of polymeter and counterpoint made this a fun and challenging piece to perform as an ensemble.
You can find original koto music from Josh Faber-Hammond at sonokiri.bandcamp.com

Wow, we're so thankful for all the positive feedback on this video, and we're glad we could share it with so many Radiohead fans around the world. For those of you wanting a better quality recording, our group is in the middle of recording our debut album right now and this is one of the pieces that's going to get the proper studio treatment. We expect it will come out sometime next year. Stay tuned!
Real nice.
More well known covers and your channel would blow up..
That was great! I think I recognize that room... Reed College Chapel?
Are you lot playing anywhere locally as of late?
@@ersp1 Yeah, that's right! It was a beautiful space.
This is a testament to both the brilliance of Radiohead and the koto players. Such a complex, syncopated tune. Really beautiful.
Jonny's part was played perfectly. the amount of concentration from all of them is stunning
I'm sure this will just be lost in the sea of comments, but this is insanely beautiful. I was in chills all the way through out. This is the best cover of any Radiohead song ever made.
Absolutely! 😍
Listening to this was like seeing a shaft of light through a cracked door. Ships sails full of sky and breath. Union of joy and tears
Instantly made me depressed. Nailed it!
Ancient Japanese people who made wagin never imagined someone would play Radiohead 2000 years later. Lol. Brilliant
This is the kind of art is the meaning of life.
The level of mastery here is insane. Being able to recreate every single element of that song in this way is just incredible. i am very late to seeing this and now i have? I am in awe. incredible doesn't even do it justice.
I can delete my comment now. You said it way better ❤
Feels like under the ocean
Eaten by the worms and weird fishes?
Was not expecting them to do the intense breakdown part at the end.
Lianne de havas has an amazing live version of this. Again very different
Masterpiece - thanks for doing this
For decades, Radiohead's been the source of unconditional beauty, love and purity for millions of us mortals
Overwhelmingly beautiful, my face is soaked with tears.

And when the " I hit the bottom and escape" part comes in at 3:49 ... wow. this is probably the best version of Weird Fishes I've ever heard.
Check out Lianne La Havas' version... she's in tears at the end:

Wow I never realized how much the song can sound like rain, which is perfect for what it's about.
koto makes everything beautiful
I love that there is musical paper turning! 🤘🏼
Exquisite and so moving. A perfect interpretation of one of the most beautiful songs.
My daughter and I refer to 15 Step, Weird Fishes and Reckoner as Radiohead’s Holy Trinity - we hope you will cover them all one day.
Such a beautiful trio of songs, such a good album, shuch a good band!

I absolutely love those 3 songs, and the whole album in general. Couldn't stop listening to it when it first came out. 😍
That has to be one of the most beautiful covers of any song ever made. The arrangement was superb, the playing phenomenal. I realised I was holding my breath at one point! Just gorgeous. Thank you.
Dude plucks that string like a DJ turns the knob.
One of those great covers that makes something new and beautiful with a song that has no room for improvement
This is the most beautiful thing I''ve ever heard
Perfectly translated the buildup and letdown of this song, which is what makes it so effective and painterly.Props !
Not understanding the mechanics of the instruments makes this even more enjoyable. Thank you.
Thankyou
Huh, I have a sudden urge to create a playlist called "Little rowboat beats to suck lemons and disappear to".
I come back to this video at least once per week, such a beautiful cover. I feel refreshed everytime I listen to it. Thank you!

Having seen this song live performed by the band, and even if I hadn’t I probably still would have got goosebumps watching this, incredible performance and execution of a song I didn’t know I needed to hear in this manner!

BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLL. YES.
this is All I Need right now
gorgeous.
Lovely
Wow that was truly enlightening on many levels , this is my first experience of your instruments and the talents you have in playing them , secondly a taboo of mine or a fear if you like is listening to other versions of my most treasured musical experiences, and that is what Radiohead is to me a musical experience . And thirdly your rendition a. Showed me what a genius composition this is , and b. Gave me the same joy engagement and forceful need to react to each note mentally and physically. Now I must listen again .
YES!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!
Wow koto fits so well for this song...I probably should have expected it but God damn.
You have done an amazing job. Thank you for your dedication to your instrument, your years of practice, your skill at collaboration, your ear for beauty, and for putting this out into the world.
A magical cover of a magical song. This turned me into a phantom and knocked me backwards off the edge of the world and into the sea where I sunk and now sit on the bottom being pecked at by strange oceancreatures, just like the vision of someone's beautiful eyes did in the narrative of this song.
dreamy! fantastic ~ thank you so very!
So many layers! Incredible.. Beautiful..

良いですね〜 箏にぴったり!
特にベースと、細かい歪んだトレモロの再現が素晴らしいです😊

I wasn't ready for this song to end. Beautiful work, really well done!
So so cool and beautifully played Amazing how many different string instruments there are, that as a string musician myself, that I didn’t even know existed!
