- Martha Siegel of Culver City was an artist at the Leon Schlesinger studio for many years. She leaves us this memorable gag reel. It is truly a "behind-the-scenes" look at the comic geniuses who created Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig and many other characters during the Golden Age of animation. But perhaps their humor was displayed better in their cartoons!!

These are two rare and important video shorts of Leon Schlesinger Productions and Studio. I'm glad to see that they are being memorialized on UA-cam. I had the pleasure of being acquainted with Martha. She and her husband were attendees of honor at events at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where my family and I were also present. Martha was a lovely lady and had a brilliant encyclopedic knowledge of the Leon Schlesinger Studio. She started working at the studio during the Depression and had many stories to tell, and many memorialized in her great book. Her presence brightened up a room and she is sorely missed by everyone that knew her.
its an honor to bring them to a new audience - and great to hear from you.
According to most of the animators Leon Schlesinger was said to be a great boss and nice to work with. Even though he was pretty much a money man He allowed the animators to create whatever they wanted and he had an amazing sense of humor upon himself. He was also better to work for than Fred Quimby of MGM and Walt Disney. The saddest part of Leon was he never won an Oscar.
Every workplace should allow you to do these antics on camera!😂🤣😅😋😜
Yes!!
I recognized two of the "Ladies in the Inking Department": Tex Avery and Chuck Jones.
Not to mention Bob Clampett.
0:30 Leon Schlesinger playing with a porky pig toy is something i never knew I needed until now.
I'm sorry but seeing those workers FLY out the door I just couldn't stop laughing !!
That scene was later used in the cartoon "You Ought to be in Pictures" when the staff supposedly broke for lunch...
Thank you so much uploading this, these got taken off UA-cam for no reason, glad their back here!!!
Great to see and hear. Thanks.
Invaluable contributions by Mel Blanc and the indispensable Carl Stalling. My favorite period.
Glad you enjoyed it!

{As seen in "You Ought To Be In Pictures" (1940)}
Groucho was doing the James Rolfe frown before he was born
Mel Blanc was a genius.
Agreed. The artistry and design of the characters were very good and the gags very clever. It took the perfect voice artist to make them come to life and to make them as memorable as they were. Mel Blanc was a once in a billion talent. The money they saved by having him do nearly all the voices allowed them to produce higher quality cartoons than most studios, especially by the time the 1950s rolled around.
@@dtnetlurker He also took a paycut in exchange to be credited.
That discussion on numbers turning out to be about how many cells they've cleaned... 😂😂😂
I love how someone just has a big rifle at the beginning scene.
Ok, that's hilarious!
Very funny fan since I was born
7:33 they'd probably think twice about washing cels if they knew that they'd go for hundreds or thousands of dollars in art auctions 8 decades later.
This was the Great Depression. Resources were precious.
I've been looking everywhere for that woman who did the striptease dance

Can we identify everyone who appeared in these Gag reels?
Love that video! So funny. Is it possible if I can find a vhs tape or a DVD that has that show? Just curious. Thank you so much for posting it
I am pretty sure that movie was only distributed among the employees and that you won't find it in a commercial form. But feel free to watch it as often as you like.
No problem. Thank you very much
The Early Worm get the bird has a original theme
Contrary to popular belief this is not termite terrace this is the other building

11:39 Who is that?
An LA performer, not a studio staff member.
She's an actual stripper used for reference when animating this scene ua-cam.com/video/f7ewdrHU6to/v-deo.html

After all of the "problems of production" it's too much fun to watch all of the jokes and zaniness that occurred and created unforgettable cartoons/characters.🎯🤣🐰🐷🦆🦨🐓✏🎥🏚🌅 Stay safe everyone!
