Anyone know what year this instruction film was made? I would guess 1960. I used to be a projectionist until 2010, and I have only made tape splices.

By the 1980's, most if not all 35mm release prints were made of polyester. Film cement will not weld polyester, so splicing with tape was the only way to go. Cement only works on cellulose film; acetate ("safety base") or nitro cellulose ("nitrate base.") Polyester base film does show up sometimes in 16mm (mainly for classroom films) and 8mm (the Fuji "Single 8" cameras of the 1960's-70's used it.)
