Also I vaguely remember the Carnage house, i think i saw super hero costumes hung up like trophies, but the one thing I distinctly remember was seeing The Punisher as the sole survivor as he fought off the villains with a manned turret!
I would pay copious amount of money to experience this
I'm amazed at how much footage you got from back in the day.
It's so hard to find footage of just about anything from the pre-youtube age
The "chainsaw guy in a skull mask" was Crossbones, a Captain America villain. Also Taskmaster was there too.
The Jurassic Park in the dark and Carnage takeover were perfect
They had a killer website and old scroll looking map for this event, and a travel channel documentary. This is the hhn that got me excited about the event growing up
It's funny because they could totally do a Marvel themed haunt now with "Marvel's Zombies". Though with Disney owning Marvel now maybe not. 😆
My guess is they have to run that threw Disney. But isn’t there marvel zombie merch out there like action figures
@@wrestlingandamusementparkl7789 Merch is a really weird topic with Marvel. They can't seem to update their costumes and area to a more modern design, but they're still allowed to sell merch based on the MCU and even current comic books. Idk what the hell the deal is. 🤷♂️ lol
It’s quite unfortunate that all the legalities are in the way because MOM having horror elements made me thirsty for more marvel horror. It would be cool to see them do marvel island in modern horror nights style. Love the idea of the symbiotes taking over the city since scream is already featured on the ride
I mean, there is a literal Marvel Zombies show being made for Disney+, so things are changing
Deatheaters appearing in Diagon Alley and than appearing after the show minutes later in Hosmeade
That is how magic works.. right? 😂😂
Thank you for watching 🙏
I think it would be really cool if they did it at islands once if it was done right!
They’ll get to the point where they need to with the amount of crowds they’ve got nowadays 😭
What if they it at Epic Universe?
They need to go back to the time it was both parks at the same time. Around 06-07
Horror Nights in Monsters Village? Yes please
@@maui3551I feel like they won’t do that because otherwise Universal Studios would probably die out and they don’t want that
I think an awesome IP for HHN would be the Bad Batch. Because cannibals that are hallucinating would be scary, and Amputees running away from people with machetes who are trying to make a meal out of them would actually freak me out. Crazy people with weapons who want to eat you are much scarier than any fake monsters/ghosts.
I still haven’t seen Bad Batch 🫢
Sounds like a terrifying concept and I would be down to see more stuff like this around HHN in the future! 👀🙏
Bad Batch is good. Gotta see it
For what it's worth, my mother went to HHN at IoA, and loved it! I think the standard for horror was different 20+ years ago, and what pushed the boundaries back then are almost unthinkable now. I can understand how this event would fall short today, but how fun to marvel back at years past. Great job finding old footage and pictures!!
Based off the Jurassic world escape room, a JP house would simply end me 😂
Imagine Nintendo based villains taking over Super Nintendo World during Halloween Horror Nights. Possibly a Nintendo themed maze or scare zone, but I guess Nintendo wouldn't approve of it
You could maybe pitch a Luigi's mansion thing, which could be a fun halloween overlay for kids.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, provided that the Universal creative team can broaden their definition of “horror” beyond cheap gory shock value. Mario had plenty of spooky, eerie moments that would be perfect for a Halloween theme while still being family friendly.
@@mathewevans9706 YES!!!!!
If they could make like Errie I don’t see the issue.
Nintendo would say yes u can do that but only if u make mario save the day
I was the assistant show director assigned the the 2017 scarecrow house! It might have been cursed but it was my all time favorite house! Those actors worked so hard to give a terrifying experience!
"they would think they were dead for real" with how often Marvel kills and resurrects characters the last 15-20 years this is a hilarious take.
Dude you did a great job on this. Hopefully more HHN History to come.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing this story. We go every year for HHN and I had no clue about this.
Yes!! It’s definitely on of my favorite parts of HHN history and I am super happy to share it 😅
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Such a well-done video friend! So much great info in here!
Ryan, you are an amazing content creator! Love these (and all the other) videos so much. You can tell how much research you put into them. Keep up the great work!
Aww thank you so much! I work super hard on these videos and I’m so happy to see that it shows. Thank you for the highest compliment and even watching in the first place 🙏😭
To be completely fair, the "guys in tank tops and skeleton masks" is an actual marvel character named Crossbones, aka Brock Rumlow (if you've seen Captain America, that name should sound familiar), which I wish I could have seen in person at this event because it actually looks cool as shit for the character it's based on.
I remember going to the VERY first year of the Islands 'Fear NIghts' when I was a manager for Best Buy here in California....and let me tell you what; the FEAR FACTOR house had 'squeezing thru a birth canal' area that STILL gives me anxiety when I think of it....and not much scares me! This was a fkng incredible Time Warp for this Seasonal Event. Greta Job. I am going to shout it out on my channel....Love ya man!
Richard
Aww thank you so much! I’ll be sure to check out your stuff too! Already planning more like this in the future 🙌👀
By far your most interesting video. They’re all great but I just shared this to 12 ppl who wouldn’t watch most vlogs . Bravooo
Aww thank you so much! More of these videos are coming in the future! Might end up switching to this style completely soon, we’ll see 🤷♂️ 🙏
first time watching your videos.. i watch alot of other theme park/cruise youtubers and not sure how i haven't watched you before. Your film style and effort into each video is amazing bro
Thank you so much! More to come in the future 🙏
Used to speculate with friends that I attend HHN in Orlando with about why IoA isn’t utilized for the event, now I’m in the know. Subscribed !
I had no idea about any of this! Thanks Ryan!
Very interesting 🙂😎 Cool vlog, thank you. I would love to see something from Star Trek with a Borg Cube as the horror house.
Pitty viewer crew checking in! This was wild! I'm not someone who would go through the houses as I'm a fight or flight person of the highest order but I love the BTS, history, and lore!
Ali!! It’s always great seeing you in the comments! And yes, i think you’ve said it before, but i totally get not wanting to go through the houses 😅
Just happy you’re still interested in the subject matter! More to come in the future for sure 🙌
Quality content !! Can we get a house themed to Bioshock or another popular thriller game?! That would be fun
You're so talented dude. Thanks for this!
No, thank YOU 🙏
Appreciate the kind words 😭
Thank you for this great vlog - we learned so much about HHN lore - we've been coming down for a few years and are newer to the event. You guys always talk about Easter eggs in the summer tribute store - the one room that showcases the 3 classic movies- Ghostbusters/Jaws/Back to th e Future. Wouldn't these be fun houses - the old Ghostbuster house was scary comical. The HHN team is so creative-they could pull it off!
Rumor has it, Ghostbusters might be one of the big houses this year(but this has still not been confirmed by universal) so you might just get your wish very soon 👀
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Ryan this video is so good you are so talented!!!!!
I think you missed an opportunity to show your hole and keep the corn curse alive, Corn hole - with rectangle necked raptors.
This was great detail into the history of the growth of horror nights. Thanks for wiping off the shitty wall history for this video and sharing what was clearly a deep research effort. Your commitment to this level of detail is appreciated. Thanks Ryan
Aww thank you so much! Loved making this one and there will be more in this style coming soon!
Also, I would love to hear the reaction to the first half of this comment from someone who hasn’t watched almost every video i’ve put out 😂😂 Thank you 🙏🙏
@@ForTheLoveOfThemeParksVlogsthat would be me, i was very confused and concerned reading the first half lol
islands of fear & tales of terror were my first experiences and i loved them. i thought the immersive themed lands lended well to making it scarier and more elaborate. the caretaker is, and will always be the scariest icon in my eyes. i loved the park connection scare zones. they built an entire cornfield for it.
Typing a second comment cause I typed my first before I even finished my he first watch. This video better make this channel blow up. Soooo much research detail and my dads replied already saying he went during it and it was a wild time . Some things I can’t say here but he appreciates this video and is sharing it now too .
Aww thanks again Chelsy!! Sharing these videos helps soo much, so I appreciate all the support 🙏😭
I went to HHN in Hollywood for the first time in 2015, and I had alot of fun! I did have a really bad anxiety attack, but I remember a cast member helping my friends calm me down. He got me some water, and helped me get around the scare zones. We only did get to do the Terror Tram and the Dusk Til Dawn maze as it was super packed, but I still enjoyed myself. Would go again
Hollywood always seems to be super packed for those events. Not a lot of room at those parks. Hope that the anxiety attack wasn’t too bad 😭
Still haven’t made it out to hollywood for HHN, maybe next year 🤷♂️
Thank you for watching 🙏
My first HHN experience was 2005, when I had just started 6th grade. I remember the one single house we missed, apparently navigating through a mine with only a flashlight, was apparently the best one, so that sucked. I also remember lots of pole-dancing vampire ladies. Wild time for an 11-year-old.
I believe that was one of the houses inside of the Poseidon’s Fury ride! 2005 was a great year for sure! Hope this video brought back some good memories, thank you for watching 🙏🙏
This was the first ever HHN I ever went to. Coming from the UK we always used to go around Easter time so when we started going in October we saw adverts for HHN and thought that looks fun and something different, having no idea what it was. We have been hooked ever since, even if it has dipped in quality recently, purely going on previous years experience
I am not a big fan of HHN. I just find it so cool of a concept. Great video. Love the history. Had no idea that Universal blames real and fake corn for hurricanes. I know this is a crazy idea. But what if they made a house based on lost media like London After Midnight. Just an idea I would thought I'd share unprompted. Lol. Thanks again for the video. Take care and have a great day :D
Thank you for watching even if HHN isn’t your cup of tea! The hurricane thing is wild, but also kinda a inside joke with the company, it’s hard to tell 😂
That would be an awesome idea for a house! Would love to see it, you have a great day too 🙏🙏
Ah, the nostalgia! 2002 was my first HHN year and, to this day, the Caretaker is my icon crush😘. I would love to see a Lost Boys house and I also think Neoni (Wars in a Wonderland, specifically. But all their stuff) would be a wonderful musical fit.
Wow! What a great year to start going, hope the video brought back some good memories 😅
A Lost Boys house would be great and probably super popular, that’s such a nostalgia mine!
Thank you for watching 🙏
When you said Lost Boys, I immediately thought of Peter Pan, not vampires first.... but that said, a corrupt version done Lord of the Flies style would be pretty great, ngl. Years ago, Knotts did a twisted version of Pinocchio and it was horrific, so it could probably work pretty well.
2002 was my first year!!!!
The corn thing is so funny yet so sad because as a fan of scarecrows and corn mazes i think the theme is always fun
I remember thempark history covering the island of adventure horror nights in multiple videos. But the videos kinda skim over the themes of the events.
I remember hearing what they did ti the Marvel island, but i didnt know it was a Carnage themed event and that it had dead heroes on this island.
Also the irony of the Whosville topic, in cali we had a tram ride go through whoville as Freddy & Jason was rampaging through the city.
I would love to see these made into HHN scare zones or Houses. John Carpenter's The Thing, A Nightmare On Elm Street, 30 Day's Of Night, A Quiet Place, Dead Space, Resident Evil Village and themed around 80s and 90s B movie monsters come to life in a Blockbuster Video store.
I really hope they keep it on the Universal Studios side.....even when Epic opens. The over the top and very unique theming makes it hard to theme for HHN. Also, great work
I went to Horror Nights during Hide and Shriek and the pictures don't do it justice. It was an awesome scare zone after dark with the fog, lasers, and scaractors
Started going in 2001 as a kid, the IOA days live so fondly in my head as some of the most unique HHN's ever
But they were super primative compared to what we have now.
The event had a handmade feel at the time that was kinda unique, but it was weird going through ride queues and restaurants lol
HHN as it is now could *never* work in IOA again
I had an idea for a Halo themed house: Halo: CORRUPTER. The main theme is a UNSC base overrun by the Flood, with Flood combat forms and Flood infected Spartans as scare actors. To those out of the loop in Halo, The Flood are a body horror parasite
I would love to see Tales from the Crypt return!!!
I dont think universal had any issues with Jurassic Park, being based on their film IP. But i have been watching that there is so much behind the story of hybrids being used that literally spawned into Jurassic World (aka JP4). Especially that we were literally inches away from a JP Dino-Human hybrids flick. But what made Project Evilution that it literally expanded the lore to JP, & which people often forgets that JP & TLW novels are literally Horror Sci-fi. So project Evilution actually fits well into the JP film series. I hope we get Jurassic Park back in HHN, there is so much to be explored thanks to JW with hybrids.
Great video, and we couldn't agree more about Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour. We are deciding on which date to go still they are fricken amazing!!!! I still want a JAWS maze!!!! Land Shark anyone?
Can’t wait for this years event and tours!!
Jaws would be amazing! One of the best horror movies of all time 😭 Thank you for watching 🙏
man i love these vids
I loved the IoA years. Ship of Screams is still one of my fav houses.
It’s cool to see the back story to some of theming but I couldn’t never do it. My anxiety would be through the roof the whole time 😆.
One of the best parts from the documentary “Art of the Scare” made by HHN themselves was talking about how they want to create the feeling of danger & peril without actually being in danger.
I know that doesn’t help, but yeah, sounds like anxiety is the goal 😂
Thank you so much for watching and commenting 🙏
The Travel Channel special for Island of Fear is incredible... It's a shame they don't do television specials like that anymore
I went through the Carnage house with the dead heroes, parts of the house were outside, and they had paths with parts that were only covered every few feet, and they had the heroes bodies on covered parts of the path you walked through, I distinctly remember Captain American with his shield hanging over the edge of one part.
Do you think they may move HHN to Epic Universe in the future considering how much bigger the park is?
I remember the year they did a HHN/Studios dual takeover...
We left exhausted but it was still a fun time.
I would love to see them do a Back to the Future House or maybe Jaws as a callback to the old rides!
I genuinely think this same idea would work incredibly well today, especially with how people are now aware of how HHN works, having no small children at the event, I think this would work. Just the thought of how they could reinstall horror into each land, even with a similar conceptual style to their first outing would be awesome.
Interesting behind the scenes info, but I have to say, as a guest who actually went to this event at IOA, it was the best haunt ive ever seen to this day
Not sure if it’s ever been done but if not, we need a Hellraiser house!
The movie “Stay Tuned” would be a great deep dive for a house.
I’ve gone to HHN a lot and actually went the year they had it in Universal and Islands. I enjoyed it a lot as it gave them more room and possibilities
I think giving IOA a family friendly Halloween event like Disney does with Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party could work.
My husband and I are new to Orlando, so hoping we can finally go this year! I’d love for them to do a house or scare zone based on Spooky Island from the Scooby Doo movie
OMG yes! I’ve been clambering for a Spooky Island theme for a long time! Maybe that’s their way back into Islands of Adventure for the event! 👀
Can’t wait to hear if you make it out this year! Already shaping up to be one hell of an event 🙌 Thank you so much for watching 🙏
When I finished watching the video, an ad for Ghost, Rite here Rite now popped up. There is your new HHH house. Have the band Ghost sponsors a house.
“We can’t have this scare zone with our dead heroes because of the kids!”
Same company that made Marvel Zombies, Death of *insert Marvel hero name* comics, all of the alternate ending comic lines that have our favorite heroes killed or disfigured in some way, and pretty much all comics where the bad guy is the lead in the comic (Carnage especially)
it would be interesting to see another marvel scare zone or haunted houses with the marvel villains with carnage again
So fun fact, the corn curse is actually all Central Florida because while Universal didn't use real corn in 2022, SeaWorld did for Howl-O-Scream.
Last year they had a bit of Cthulhu in HHN, not nearly enough. Personally, I think they should make a whole Lovecraft park. A Lovecraft themed attraction at HHN would be epic, though.
Yess! I want more Cthulhu! I’ve actually got that tattooed on my forearm 😅
All of this would be great! Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Using both parks to make the crowd more manageable is a great idea. I hope they do something because the last few years have been rough. And it will only get worse...
I imagine once epic opens they’ll utilize Dark Universe in some capacity for Halloween Horror Nights.
Idk why, but Jaws would be hilarious and awesome. Would be a good way to incorporate water in scare zones, and utilize a new element idt that has been used. 🤷🏻♀️
A jaws area would be great! They may have to go more of a Sharknado route for sharks on (mostly land areas) to make sense, but i’m all for that too 😂
More jaws around the parks is a good thing! Thank you so much for watching 🙏
@@ForTheLoveOfThemeParksVlogs Heck yes, either one would be awesome if they can imagine it up! 🤍
I don't think the layout of Islands is at all suited to haunting, except for the Jurassic section, and even that would be wrecked by having Velocicoaster running overhead the whole time.
I prefer originals to IP, but I'd love to see a Resident Evil experience... they've already got one in Tokyo, it's time to share imo.
I also usually prefer originals, but i’d never say no to a resident evil house 👀👀
Islands is definitely not the best park for HHN 😬 thank you so much for watching 🙏
What type of camera are you filming with? Footage looks crisp! 👍
Lumix GH5! This is my main rig (when i can use it) My favorite camera i’ve ever owned 😭
Thank you so much for watching 🙏
Im curious if they’ll do it this year bc of the park’s anniversary
They need to bring back Bill and Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure.
With the whole corn curse thing, I was there in 2022 and the day the hurricane hit was the day I was meant to go
Was there for this and Maximum Carnage was great.
Certainly loved them cranking out Static X during the queue line hehe
I would absolutely love to have another Alfred Hitchcock house! I’ve only been going to HHN since 2018, so I never had a chance to experience the prior Hitchcock/Psycho houses
Can you link that old universal promo vid plzzzzzz?
Great video is island avenue open doing hollowen horror nights
Holy cow that’s me in the video at 14:17.
OMG hello!! I hope you have recovered from the trauma that is that infestation show 😭😭🙏
Honestly, HHN at IOA was always my favorite park to have it in
unsure if already done, but I'd love to see Scream
*ALMOST* done 😂
I think I may be covering that in a future video 👀
If Universal Orlando ever wanted to do a Marvel haunted house than they can use the Marvel Zombie storyline seen it would be like taking the comic to life
I’d love to see that, but with disney owning marvel now, universal is really backed into a corner where they likely can’t do anything marvel that isn’t already what is in place at the land in islands.
Im sure they’d need approval from disney for new stuff and we know that won’t happen 😅 It’s a great idea still!! 🙌
Epic Universe's Classic Monsters land is built for HHN. That would be so cool.
Imagine if they expanded HHN to Epic Universe. Turn Super Nintendo World into Luigi’s Mansion, keep Dark Universe as it is, and have the Deatheaters at the Ministry of Magic. Not sure what could be done with How to Train Your Dragon, though.
One big issue with this of course is that Epic Universe is far away from the main Florida park, so that would cause issues if Universal was trying to do a two-park HHN.
Would love to see a villains of Broadway (The Dark Side of Broadway) as a house (Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett, Audrey II, the Phantom of the opera and Dracula, Madame Morrible)
We did get the Phantom and Dracula in the universal monsters houses the past few years! I could totally see a sweeney todd house too!!
This is actually the most unique idea i’ve seen so far! Bravo!! 👏
funny enough. this is the only HHN i ever went to lol
Look, this is an IP integration that will NEVER happen because of how niche of a market it is, but if somehow Universal Creative managed to collaborate with Starkid to bring the Hatchetfield Universe to HHN, my little theater kid heart would be over the moon.
14:43 the very first time we ever knew about Shady Brook asylum in HHN lore
17:00 i want universal to try this idea again with epic universe and try to link all 3 parks together
Literally my favorite year of all time
I want a Murder Party house! The kill scenes and sets in Murder Party would make for a great house. Such a great film and I can’t recommend the rest of Jeremy Saulnier’s movies enough!
I’ve never seen it! I will for sure be adding it to my watch list for the upcoming spooky season!
Thank you Erik as always! See you later this week 👀💪
I’m curious if Epic Universe will have any Halloween events. I mean I know it probably won’t be full on HHN (couldn’t really imagine a gruesome Mario maze) event, but they’ll have a literal land dedicated to classic horror movies, hopefully they’ll do something in that area at least kinda like how Seuss Landing is the only land where Grinchmas is really a thing.
How about death eaters at ministry of magic
@@eevee_mon that’d be neat! They are pretty cool already in Diagon Alley so I’m sure they could expand it to Epic Universe if they wanted.
This was an awesome video. I can’t believe all the shitty (literal shitty) ideas that Universal went through.
Thank you so much! Here’s to hoping there are no poop smelling houses this year 😂🤞
The toon lagoon scare zone was called treaks and foons
I’m surprised that you didn’t mention HHN 15, which is the last Horror Nights at Islands of Adventure before moving back to the studio the following year. That features a new Icon in the Storyteller and setting up a dark world within the theme park with houses and scare zones connected to the lore behind this said theme. That would’ve been something to talk about in UA-cam.
#WherearetheGoodCartoons?
Islands of Fear was awesome. 2002 is still my favorite year of the event.
i would love to see another freddy v jason house, maybe a trick r treat one as well. heck have guillermo del toro design one the man is a master of horror/monsters
IOA does need to do something for Halloween.
But it doesn't need to be a scare event. Maybe something family friendly themed to a Halloween Party... Oh, Disney did that? Universal can too.
I think Killer Clowns from Outer Space should come back to HHN
I cant wait to see what they are gonna do with epic universe!!!!! Dark universe will be so cool!!!!! Death eaters at the ministry of magic!
