    I really, TRULY, appreciate the way you went into such detail. I especially thank you for filming over months and showing what the secondary roots look like, the "new" leaf that didn't make it, how you prepared the Special Sauce, the vessel you used...I cannot think of a question that wasn't addressed. Expertly done!

      I appreciate that! I really do. I could have made a 5 minute video telling you all the things, but I believe that doing and showing is the best way, and this video was born out of the many questions about the long method I have received over the years. Thank you for your support 🙏 🙌 ❤️

    I've been using your long method for awhile, and although I already know the bottom line is to wait for water adapted roots to be established first, it is super helpful to see the nuances and details of what that looks like over time.
    I enjoy your videos that follow a repot over time, and appreciate you taking the time and effort to document the plant progress over months. It helps me be more patient! 😊

    You have introduced me to Philodendrons, Syngonium and Pothos plants, the concept of moss poles and how to care for them with LECA. As a result I've acquired two plants a syngonium and a pothos and I'm going to give it a go!

    I absolutely love your straightforward but very informative explanation and instructions. You've helped me with the few plants I have in clay balls. I had to change one recently to semi hydroponics, but that was my fault. I missed a huge pocket of soil under the rhizome of the Alocasia, and after 6 - 8 weeks, it started to rot. Jury is still out as to whether I've saved it. But, interestingly, between putting in clay balls and having to pull it out again, I managed to find 7 little baby rhizomes - so it clearly loved the leca - it just couldn't overcome my mistake.

    What an amazing explanation of the long method! One big question though...When the roots are reaching the bottom of the leca pot, where are you putting the nutrient water level then? That's the part I am hung up on.

    • @TheLecaQueen
      @TheLecaQueen  4 місяці тому

      Those roots are used to being in the hydro environment so they are ok with the reservoir touching them so putting the nutrient still at about a third

    Hi Nora, I tried the long method on my med. size calathea obofolia. at first, it looked fine. after about 3 days, I started to see yellowing on the edges, and I lost about 3 leaves. is it natural to lose a few leaves on a mature plant. 🤔

  • @juggyy5429

    I wonder why this works, wouldn't roots fully immersed in water be more likely to rot than in leca?

  • @AcrylDame
    @AcrylDame 5 місяців тому

    I don't switch out the water in water propagation because it collects rooting hormones.
    The long method is for patient people as you lose two full month of growth. I personally would just have repotted it into aroid mix and be done with it but I'm impatient.
    Have you ever tried growing in pumice?

    • @TheLecaQueen
      @TheLecaQueen  5 місяців тому

      One of the reasons I switch the water is for fresh oxygen. I have not used pumice only. You said it yourself though, patience is everything, the 2 months 'lost' is more than made up for when all the advantages of growing in leca kick in. ☺️

    • @AcrylDame
      @AcrylDame 5 місяців тому +1

      @@TheLecaQueen If you find coarse pumice, you should give it a try. It has the perfect amount of moisture, oxygen, is light-weight and holds plants in place better than LECA does.
      As for growth speed in semi-hydro I don't see the advantage. If you go full-on hydroponics (dwc, ebb&flow and so on) there may be an advantage.

  • @gizmo4774

      @@hennesseyme9112 I would love to answer your question, and my comment was not implying that I do not want you to ask. IN the video I show how I take a plant that is living in soil, put it in water and put it in leca with nutrient and it did not rot. I have so many other plants that do not rot. I think the best way to address your concern is to dive into specifics. It is hard to comment or help you with limited or no context. Please let me know what plants you have had a problem with, which plants rotted? How did you do the transition? What were the other conditions like light? This would make for a more meaningful discussion. Even better would be pictures. Unfortunately you can't post on UA-cam, but you can in my free Facebook group. That is a great way to get some good feedback, not just from me, but from others who may have similar issues as you. A lot gets lost in translation when communicating by the written word online, I hope you do not give up on semi hydro..

      @@TheLecaQueen Some people have a gift and others don't; for instance. I have rotted so many "Ginny" cuttings in water and others put theirs in water and magic happens. I only seem to have luck with Pothos cuttings. I just purchased a rooting get called Athena. It is my first rooting gel. It is nice and sticky. I will put that in some diluted Clonex water and see what happens.

      @@TheLecaQueenI needed and appreciate this video so much. And I must say that I ran into it just in the nick of time. It's several of my plants that are just not doing well in the soil and I was feeling discouraged. So I'm a mad dash to try and save them instead of throwing them out I rinsed them and stuck them in water. I wasn't really sure if it was the safe thing to do but I figured it was better then nothing and if I can propagate in water and develop new life then maybe I can save my plants and develop new roots🤷🏾‍♀️. I just did this, this morning and I've been a little panicky the rest of the day, thinking maybe I should pull them out, this is going to send them into shock and surely kill them!🤦🏾‍♀️
