Can we all agree Mumbo is quite a good motivational speaker?
I think we can.
absolutely.
Yes he is!
It reminds me of a passage from "The War Of Art": essentially, a pro does what they are a pro at, and hire other pros for what they can't do by themselves
Is it the art of war or another book called the war of art
@@pepre7594 c:
Whoever named that book is definitely not a pro at making titles lmao
@@StarMarine1084 You sure? Yeah it's confusing since there's a more well known book with a similar name, which is bad. But it can draw more attention using another's fame, the confusion may cause some people to investigate, and the name itself refers to the conflict inside professionals wanting to go further but feeling like they can't. So it's clever in that sense.
When my kid introduced me to your channel 7+ years ago, I thought I'd just briefly watch to please him, and presently move on. But I have to say, watching you grow over the years as a creator, as an artist, and as a _person_ has been incredibly inspiring!
Also? Squeaky noises are *really* good, and so are those houses on the armchair! :D

I swear this channel is just Mumbo's ted talks. I love it.
"You aren't the best at everything"
I've took a long time to understand this simple phrase. I'm about average in many things, but it annoys me because it also means there are many people that are better than me ! I'm still young so I can't entirely relate, but for example when I play with my friends, there's always at least one of them who is better than me ! I'm doing good, but they're doing better, and that's hard to understand when it's in different domains... But now I think it's good like it is ! I focus on what I'm good at, and I try to learn to be better !
I love the fact that you are talking about this topic, and motivating us ! ♥️
As a writer, Imposter Syndrome hits pretty hard when I do pretty much anything, but I never really considered the fact that other people would feel it too.
No kidding. You read these amazing people, talk to others who do more or less than you, and it's difficult. I still feel this every time I write, but working on "this is for my enjoyment and exploring something new. It's okay if it's not perfect or doesn't work out."
'You aren't the best at everything'
That is something that is comforting to know and tell to people who are trying to keep up and do everything
This is something that I love about mumbo, he is honest about what he feels while being incredibly wholesome.
A mark of a true professional is admitting that even with all of their experience and expertise it's not possible to know everything and there is always more you can learn. Some of the best artists/creators have the worst imposter syndrome. It's actually not a bad thing. Look up the Krueger-Dunning Effect.
"You aren't the best at everything and that's fine" is a message I so wish I'd heard more growing up. Instead I put tremendous pressure on myself to succeed and can't enjoy anything I'm not the best at.
This fear in french we call it "le trac". To have "le trac" is good, it means you like what you do and you put your heart in what you do. So, for me, when I send a chapter to my phd directro or when I go to play a concert, I'm checking my level of "trac", if it's elevated, it's a good sign, it means I care about what I am doing and I'm honest in my work.
So, you're obsiously somebody who cares about his work ;)
“Nobody can be the best doing anything; you can be the best at being you”
-Me
I think the first one I made was a little bit different, I wrote this a while ago. I typed this off of memory.
Realised that when I said there were kangaroos in Austria.
😂
This person knows how to get our attention and help us in many ways
“You aren’t the best at everything.” That is a really good statement .
Mumbo, I love you! 🌞
The fact that you have the confidence (idk what to call it) to make videos such as these is really incredible, I will try to use your videos as an encouragement since I wanna start streaming but I lack confidence, I always get these thoughts like "what if a person judges me". Overall, great work, Mumbo!
I think the word you may be looking for is courage.
And yeah, it takes an insane amount of it to do what seems hard. Because no matter what, we’ll never have enough “confidence” to want to full-heartedly go at something without still having that conflict in our head about what might go wrong. You just kinda… have to take the next step.
But really, I find these videos encouraging too, because for me, it’s like, whether or not you procrastinate and feel like junk and see all these other people who are better than you, you can make something actually well done and be successful. And chances are, you’re seeing things worse than everyone else.
I wish you luck if you decide to start streaming.
And hey, I like to ask myself sometimes “what would happen if someone judges me?” because at the core of the matter, half the time it doesn’t matter and a random person’s judgement doesn’t dictate who I am or what I can or cannot do, and I’d recommend you start changing your mindset too. But what can I say? I’m just a random person on the internet. Lol.
But really, good luck. I know it’s daunting. I’ve posted fanfiction for certain fandoms for the first time and I was worried. I bet this is just as (if not more) hard.
@@taytaythehufflepuff8532 Mumbo's comment section is always so wholesome
Now this a real man. To be able to admit your mistakes and address fear is something a lot of wimps don't do because of pride and fear. I love this guy
I wanna quickly touch on working in a group and the two aides of it. When everybody has their own task (as you mentioned, filming crews e.g) its incredibly important to let others correct you, point out mistakes, and you should do the same. But when everybody is working on the same problem, its also important to listen to each other.
Example: climbing. Bouldering, to be specific.
When multiple people are working on how to send a route, a group dynamic evolves, and you get things done way faster. Not to mention the fun. I dont know how many times I got a route done because somebody else gave me tips. Even when doing things alone you can work in a group, so ye, just listen to each others ideas I guess. Just my thoughts, reply if you feel different about it.
"You aren't the best at everything, and that is fine." I already knew this quote just from shower thoughts and I will always keep that close to my heart.
This is so important !! I definitely need to go back to shooting with people, shooting on my own has its perks but doesn't make for the best possible content sometimes.
So glad I subscribed to your channel.
Soo true! For filmaking, for authors, for anyone in any sort of creative job or skilled job or anything whatsoever. Most excellent content!
"and just completely forget about sound" cheers to that brother 🥂
Mumbo! This vid is so great! I’m really starting to understand this as I wrap up recording my first EP. I am a singer songwriter first and a guitarist second. I thought I could never succeed unless I became incredible at guitar. Not the truth at all! Having the support of other specially talented people is what it’s all about. Collaboration!
This is beautiful, a genuinely informed bit of advice for anyone’s life. This made my day, thank you. :)
This was a great notification to get after I got home from school!
I think this is the final push for me to finally start to look up digital painting tutorials. I was always in the mentality of "I'll do it myself" but that hasn't worked since I didn't know what to start with. So thanks ❤
Imposter syndrome, also called perceived fraudulence, involves feelings of self-doubt and personal incompetence that persist despite your education, experience, and accomplishments. To counter these feelings, you might end up working harder and holding yourself to ever higher standards.
But it could also keep you from reaching your full potential

i get really bad imposter syndrome with my gender and i have no clue why
@@skoovee that sucks :/
I feel like I needed this. I had a rough week, and this was a good reminder. Imposter syndrome and anxiety is an arse to deal with. Thank you Mumbo :D
0:14 just like a ceo would say
A potato.
imposter syndrome is so real, i have a lot of mental trouble with it while being the the dance world. ive never felt like i was at the level of my piers, and peoples motivation doesn’t motivate me. how can i stop feeling this way? will i ever be good enough for myself?
I really thought I was the best at being the worst at being the best of being the worst.
I guess I'm now the worst at being the best at being the worst at being the best of being the worst.
Every driver at my work sees himself as the best driver. How do you even get better at something with that mindset?
I can feel this so much. I was and am always scared to work with others, even though by nature i love interacting with people and learning from them. There is a part of me that thinks if i work with other people, i may find myself to be inadequate or having this feeling of impostor syndrome. I always think i am a fraud and not good enough when in reality the people i work with enjoy what i bring to the table and the way i do my work, although it not being the best everytime but atleast its sufficient enough.
darn
This is actually really helpful. as a solo animator, I have a hard time offloading ideas and work to other people cause I'm afraid it won't look how I want it to, even though there are better editors, better keyframers, better sound designers and they can add their own vision to the project and make it better than just I could alone. Thanks Mumbo :)
great video! i love it when you upload
It's touching seeing you being open about this. Thanx bro.
It is a virtue to be humble with our works. And this also reminds me of the cringey saying of-
Team work makes the dream work.
Because we alone aren't enough. But together we are strong.
This a topic that I was afraid of to hear out load. But finding a the right people is a task I want to tackle. So I signed on for two relevant courses at university to hopefully meet new people there. I also know from past experience, that the fun you have while filmmaking. Comes from having all the other people around
Another point I wanted to mention to you, is something I recently noticed while scrolling through your channel thumbnails. If you start from the oldest video and end here at the newest, you will see a very noticable progression of color grading. I strongly suggest you look at it yourself and maybe even reflect on it. It starts off from the inexperienced "default" colors, to something way go flat once you fist shoot log. Then grades develop into a really strong stylized look that takes another year to vanish again, to be replaced by a matured, strong contrast and lively look. Do you notice the same?
"Your little Channel: mumbo jumbo " 😅😅
Thanks for this video.
I really enjoyed it❤❤❤
You underestimate my power Mumbo Jumbo, i am the only person alive that is physically good at every single thing, even if i didn't ever do it, i am simply good at it without even doing it
Don't forget that although you aren't the best at everything nothing is stopping you from becoming it through hardwork.
No matter what you say , your Instagram photos are just absolutely beautiful , I use them as references for drawing scenery and stuff
0:32 i like to think that someone who doesn’t know abt Mumbo Jumbo like wanders in to see his channel expecting like 90k subs., and then blown away by his staggering 8.2 million!
Thanks for your positive messages, Mumbo, I really appreciate you.
Thanks so much for this mumbo. In my 2 years as a frustrated filmmaker, impostor syndrome has always been the demons setting me back from fully expressing myself.
Love this kind of videos, Mumbo. Keep up all your good work. Cheers mate, mean a lot.
Wow! You don't know how much I needed this and the fact that someone I watch like mumbo made this video makes me really happy.
mumbo is fr one of my favorite youtubers
Mumbo you should do podcast. you got the voice for it!
It does help with self confidence, great advice,
To ask for help in a creative world is the most scariest thing. Especially for us control freaks. Great speech, i really feel you in this one.
Art is not a competition and film is not a competition, the thing that artist want is to entertain the audience
Impostor syndrome. I didn’t know it had a name. I am feeling that exactly. Thank you the encouragement to step out side my comfort zone of me, myself, and I.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and making this short blog type videos. Even if I don't know anything about filmmaking it is still applicable for any type of team work such as IT projects. And I love the way you are talking about not only filmmaking, but about everything. It is hilarious, giving a big positive charge for a week!)

This video was amazing!! Keep up the good work!! I’ve really enjoyed watching these videos, seeing you be so passionate about something and continue to get better has been very cool.
This is extremely helpful to hear since I've been recently entering hobbies like music and I can say I appreciate this.
This resonated with me on 40 levels. More IRL than YT but still. Letting go of things is so hard when you want to control everything.
I love the retro-looking microphone!
I definitely needed to hear this. Thanks mumbo!
I've been struggling with a lot of these situations myself. Having just moved to a new job as a Vet Tech, imposter syndrome to the max. But after a very short time things are looking better. Good luck Mumbo! Its scary for sure, but it is a step well worth taking.
This was a cool video Mumbo, thanks man!
Really enjoy these videos. Looking forward to more 😊
Yes I am
I had a similar thing happening this week as you describe with bringing a more experienced person in. Although not in my control I felt very scared and today I've realized that it actually elevates my work.

Love ya, Mumbo!
Wow this was so helpful! Thank you. I'm looking to get into the film industry, and I feel the same way you do about being a "control freak," wanting to do everything myself.
i freaking love these kinds of videos.
I dont understand alot of the filming words but your message is still clear. You always make me smile! 😁
Sometimes I would think things like "oh I'm not that good" or "my friends are better riders than me". No. They aren't. I believe I am at about the same level as my friends. Once I figured that out my confidence sky rocketed. This video only helped. Thanks Mumbo.
P.S: this isn't to drag my friends down at all. They are all amazing and talented riders with equally amazing horses.
