The Beatles performed two shows at Manchester's ABC Cinema on the 16th date of their 1963 Autumn Tour.
Accompanied with backstage footage and crowd scenes, this became an eight-minute cinema feature entitled The Beatles Come To Town, shown for a week from 22 December 1963.
The backstage area was also filmed by a crew from Granada TV, who also interviewed The Beatles about their forthcoming US tour. The footage was first broadcast in the 6 January 1964 edition of Scene At 6.30.
BBC radio journalist Michael Barton was also at the venue, and interviewed The Beatles for the Voice Of The North show, broadcast on the North Home Service that evening from 6.10-6.30pm. Barton also interviewed George Harrison separately for another show, Wacker, Mach Schau, about the links between the Liverpool and Hamburg music scenes, which was broadcast on 27 November from 8pm.
This was the first of three occasions on which The Beatles performed at the ABC Cinema. The others were on 14 October 1964 and 7 December 1965.

I don't think ,, Beatles being the best band ever explains the girls reaction. Well part of it does. Such a great song, the performance,, spotless and the young Beatles look adorable😁 . But also the times. What was the prevailing culture at the time. How much were young girls "allowed" at the time to express,,, being in love, having a crush, feelings and emotions concerning sexuality. Was it all "bottled" up in the culture. And here comes these guys. Singing about love , feelings openly, in this new , type of pop/rock music. Totally different. Gripping their hearts and emotions all at once. So gripping,,,emotions going haywire. Screaming, crying. 🙂
That’s a very good point. Historical and cultural context does make a big difference, but isn’t that context also part of what makes a band great? Making history and moving culture. Sometimes it’s not just music, some artists can be an actual force. Those are the ones that stand out and properly stand the test of time

I'm currently reading Geoff Emerick's book (learning his trade as an engineer on the early stuff), and he says the same thing. He tells the story of loads of fans storming Abbey Road and running riot in the halls while they were all barricaded in the studio! Then they recorded this song while it was happening. A good read so far!

I have just seen this performance for the first time and I have to say I am stunned… Guys, this is live! Look for a band that can do such three part harmonies live alongside playing their instruments. This will be a difficult search. In addition the Beatles did not have in-ear monitoring or any monitoring for their voices at all - the harmonies are perfect! I’m not even starting to talk about the raw energy that translates through this video. Last but not least: the guy who mixed this performance for TV did a fantastic job. As I said before - I‘m stunned

Whoever told The Beatles, and their manager, Brian Epstein "Guitar bands are dead" don't have a clue what they talking about.

As old as I am at 65 years of age I still love to hear them they are the best band ever each of them have a hit song as a solo artist talk about talent ! I was 7 years old when I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show on February 9th 1964 like many other people did and I turned around and looked at my mom and said I am going to have long hair and play guitar and I did ! and I be came a musician and played in a rock band in the 1980s ! Because of Paul I became a bass player ! I even have the same style of bass he has . Harry

Most of the girls who were hung on them because of their looks, style, and music are probably in their 70s and 80s (and some may even be wearing Depends).
I'm 66 years old. I've loved the Beatles since their first single was released on my 10th birthday. Far from "wearing Depends" my girlfriend and I traveled to Poland,
Denmark, Austria and Scotland from Australia in Nov/Dec 2018 to see Paul McCartney perform. At 76 he still has it. And so do we.
We had previously seen him in Sydney (3 times), California, Dusseldorf and New Zealand. Have also seen Ringo and his All Star Band. Don't write older people off. We're still rockin.
When you look at what they did back then, with unsophisticated sound equipment, no glitzy stage props and choreographed scantily clad dancers, no lip synching, still managing complex harmonies when they could hardly hear one another then you begin to understand the wealth of talent these "oldies" had. And modern music owes them a huge debt.
