  • Last year, I did a video about my "Red Bag of Woe." Some call it a bugout bag. Others call it a Get Home bag. It's just a bag of stuff that I would always want to have with me, if an emergency (big or small) ever happened. I more it from vehicle to vehicle, in whatever I am riding in. That kinda by definition is a "Get Home Bag," so I guess it is what it is.
That video did very well, considering that I am extremely long-winded, and it lasted an hour. Well, the temperatures have dropped and I switched to a slightly larger bag, so I could add more shelter material and a couple other widgets.
Well, the film crew saw me moving this new Vertx Bag from my Jeep, and they said "What the hell is that? Where is your Red Bag of Woe?" I told them that this was the NEW Bag. They immediately started talking about a new video.
So, here it is; my new Cold Weather Bugout Bag. Sorry that it is sooo long, but I have a lot of gear that I like to talk about. Looking for links? We'll add links to all these new items down the road; I've got just too much work on my plate right now to put together a list. If someone wants to volunteer for making the list for us; please. have at it.
    Thanks for watching, TR

In winter/cold weather climate, forget cotton and fleece. Go wool from underwear and socks, to sweaters, scarfs and beanies.
Retains heat even when wet, and drys quickly.
    Kind regards from Norway.

As a PSA to my fellow men, I'm in Nashville and live in 1 of the areas that just got hit by a tornado. Every man needs to prepare and don't listen to your wife or girlfriend when she says "Why do you need that?" "Omg you're so crazy." Nah f**k that! When it hits the fan she'll be crying in a corner, looking for you to save the day. MEN are the ones out here putting in the hard physical labor to get the city back on track. BUY WHAT YOU WANT, BE PREPARED and STAY ALIVE.

Oh yea my now ex fiance used to say I have an unhealthy hobby and I'm paranoid because I have a car bugout bag and 2 house bugout bags for me and her plus other supplies and so much food stored. I am well prepared. Well let's say January she said I was crazy and nothing is ever going to happen and I waste my money. Fast forward 3 months and she is so grateful and happy that I prepared and that we dont even need to go to the grocery store for anything. While people wait in long ass lines for food in the cities we are living comfortably and have no need and all of a sudden I'm not crazy anymore and it was a great thing that I prepared for any situation. Well now we are split up because she went crazy so it was ment to be but I'm still prepared for anything

Along with my normal fire kit, I carry 2 of the tiny mini flares for starting fire RIGHT NOW in absolute emergency such as falling through ice or whatever. Also for signal use.
They are called ORION "fire pit pro" flares I believe.
Can't recommend them enough. Absolute vital piece of winter kit in my opinion.
Very small, light, and effective as hell.

I like the pointing out of the fact that these bags aren't just for the apocalypse. For years mine had a German Army Knife in it (their version of the Swiss Army) that had a cork screw. Can't tell you how many times I've been at a hotel at the beach or up at a cabin in the mountains for a vacation and the wife has wanted a bottle of wine. Then we get back where we're staying oh but we don't have a cork screw..... Sure we do, be right back.
And I live in the south. It doesn't snow here much. But when it does.... We had snowmageddon a few years ago. I drove home just fine in my 4x4, didn't have far to go luckily. But if I had got stuck I would've been fine with my kit. My buddy ended up having to spend a very chilly night sleeping in his car using his tie as a scarf and cranking his car every few hours to not freeze to death. I bet he wished he had a it's not for the apocalyspse bag with him.... Even if he stayed with his car he'd at least have been more comfortable.

I live at 8,000 feet high in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. My winters last 5 -6 months or longer. Absolutely unforgiving. You did a good job on your bag and contents. For the guys blowing stick rubbing or even flint fire starting..... try it in 15+ below in snow.... it goes beyond suck (especially if you have someone else relying on you) don't be that guy. My WINTER bag is set up much the same.... except I have ultra light mini snow shoes attached instead of extra boots.... but I am in my boots all the time, and an ultra light compact shovel, and 1 mini flair (in case I wanna be seen). Shelter here can just mean snow.... = my shovel. Titanium is an expensive friend. Snug pack stuff is awesome. Love my bodyglide. And I do use a Ursack bear bag down inside my pack for my food (its light and can be used for all kinds of stuff). I'll have to look and see if you have a video on your trauma kit... mine needs work.

Wow! This was right before the Covid Plandemic and you were giving solid advice on masks and hand sanitizer. I also got the Hill People Gear Multicam Mountain Sherape, and I love it! I also have a Helikon tex Swagman roll, but it's useless to me in sleeping bag mode, because I'm tall with broad shoulders. So the Mountain Sherape is my go to Ranger roll, I either pair it up with a Poncho, an MSS sleep system Gortex bivy, MSS jungle bag, or all three in the winter. Still even with all above listed together with an emergency blanket, and some long johns and extra warm socks, and your good to go. I carry a three day assault pack, but have a gray backpack cover that gives me the grey man look for my bugout bag. Great video! I really liked this series on your bag of whoa, bugout bag, or get home bag. I would absolutely love to see you do an overnight camping trip. Maybe you could even get your son out there with you, teach him hands on survival skills, maybe a winter camping trip. I just think you'd have a ton of good advice on your way of building a shelter, or even pitching a tent and cooking some good campfire meals. I know you're probably way too busy, but if you ever have the time and desire to get out there and do some camping, definitely film it, I think that would be great! Thanks for all the great content! This video really seems like so long ago, because this whole Covid PLANDEMIC has become just about all of what the main stream media talks about, that and lying to the SHEEPLE about President Trump, and they hide their own crimes. Anyways thanks again! Keep up the good work!!🤜🤛🇺🇸🇺🇸

Karl, Outstanding class. Please remember that us Veterans can usually be spotted a mile away by other Veterans. Doesn't matter how we dress or what we carry. When I was in Graduate School in the 1980's, one Professor told me during a break " Mr Nugent every time I see you, I feel like saluting ! ". He was a draftee during World War 2, and hadn't worn a uniform in 40 years. But he correctly recognized me as Military. So much for the Gray Man concept ! My term is, " My Deer Hunting Bag"... Since it has everything i need just in case i get lost hunting I have everything needing to survive for a few weeks in the woods. So i keep it in my truck year round... Probably dont need my field dressing knives and meat bags after hunting season is over but then again you might so i leave these items in there also.. Whats nice to see while out hunting are evergreen trees... They make a nice shelter in pretty cold weather or snowstorms.. As kids we would build snow forts under evergreens for fun not realizing we could survive from the cold elements for periods of time if needed to when doing this..

Thankyou for your time Karl, I’ll catch you in the next one. I will say this , a lot of people just don’t understand how much the cold can change a situation. Where in the summer a situation might be little more than a major pain in the ass, in the winter it now is a fight for survival, and if your not ready, your probably going to die.Winter is no joke in most of the US and especially up here.

(My dumb ass didn't realize they would search my backpack as we were entering the Forbidden City in China. I had bought a pairing knife and fortunately made a cardboard sheath that they didn't notice it.)
I always download maps on my phone, but still print out maps and carry a compass. I have a lamented cheat sheet of phrases in different languages. "These see my children. Have you seen them?" along with they their printed pictures and "I need police/medical assistance." Not just in the language of where I'm going, but other common languages. I also carry a cable gun lock with me to either lock my stuff up, or be able to swing as a weapon if need be. I also take a cell phone picture every morning of my family showing what they are wearing. My head is constantly on a swivel. I want my family to have a good time so I don't make it look like my guard is constantly up, but it is.
I'd like to hear a professional's opinion and plan and see how many holes I've overlooked.

Solid plan, but I didn't hear of you packing any medical gear. Check weapon laws before you travel. I often bring weapons (or at least knives) when I fly (checked bag), or immediately buy as soon as I arrive.

I live in Colorado and we do quite a few things in the mountains year-round. I'd also suggest some newspaper, which can be loosely balled up and shoved inside your coat for extra insulation, in addition to 100 other uses (that's what homeless people around here do to survive sleeping outside in the winter). I'm a big fan of handwarmers because you can use them while you're mobile, and they're really nice when you're tucked into a 32 degree snow cave (or some other shelter where you can't have a fire inside), staying out of the -20 degree wind chill. On that note, a good collapsible snow shovel can be used to create shelter, as well as to get your car out of the ditch so you don't have to spend the night out there in the first place. As long as you're carrying batteries, grab a couple sticks of gum with foil wrappers. The wrappers can be used with the battery to start a fire: ua-cam.com/video/0Tny2rPAoPc/v-deo.html. Trash bags also keep your pack dry when its pouring rain.

@@chetyllynnverellen1365 how is taking oxycodone the same as being drunk? You do know that the endorphins that are produced once metabolized oxymorphone has crossed the BBB, and bonded it stops pain. It does not produce a "high" if you have real pain. If its chronically pain, and a person has a stable dose, they don't get high, they are allowed the minimum mg required to lower pain to a level a person can operate with. And that's the minimum level of operation. They don't provide enough to a patient to get out and really do alot of stuff. For those who are not chronic, or non legitimate patients, they may get a high, but nothing like being drunk. They do not get sloppy stupid or violent. They get slower and start to nod. As can, and does happen with Any CNS depressant. Unless they have basically OD'd then their motor skills are not impaired. ( fine motor skills). They don't drop stuff and so on. They don't fall over, and again, unless they have basically ODd, they don't slur thier speech. Aprox 1 in 35 to 1 in 50 pts, will get what's known as a rant, but it's more of they will talk endlessly about anything random. I am sorry but the problem is not with oxycodone, its ppl taking it who have no need to take it. Pain meds are a very necessary item, and I recommend always having 5 M.E.D. of 60mg XR or 20 M.E.D. of 15mg IR. You would be amazed the situations I have encountered where ppl had no form of pain mgmt, and as soon as their adrenaline wore off ( about 10 to 30 minutes in a lot of cases). Then they were unable to continue moving, needed medical evacuation, and had to wait in extreme pain for 2 hours to be treated. I hate the way ppl blame guns for murder, and never blame cars for running ppl over. Yet, they blame a medication with legit uses for the actions of ppl using or abusing a medication in a manner for which it was not intended nor designed. And if guns are not responsible for murder, which they are not. Then medication is not responsible for abuse.

    • @TacticalRick507
      @TacticalRick507 4 роки тому +1

Opioid addicts don't look or act like zombies, that's tweakers, or ppl who use a lot of uppers. They hyper excite thier CNS and PNS, and then they get lots of false sensory input. All things are ok when used correctly, however, when ppl take 10 times the dosage or schedule 1 drugs, then they can get issues in limbic, prefrontal, frontal, and other systems.

Let's be honest here Karl, what that bag *really* needs is that Desert Eagle in the background of the video. Better yet, just MOLLE the damn thing to the outside of the pack (no holster required) and leave it in the passenger seat of the vehicle at all times. Nothing says "I make smart decisions and I know what I am doing" like a gold plated Desert Eagle MOLLE'd to your pack, and just think of the efficiency you can achieve with a round like .50 AE in terms of weight/round count!
On a serious note, I really enjoyed the original video you did and seeing how you adapt it for cold weather was an awesome supplement to the original video. It is not often that a single video or endorsement of a product will make me leap out and purchase it, but your original video was what convinced me to buy an HPG Mountain Serape (I had always liked their gear and had been eyeing the Mountain Serape for a long time, but your video was what pushed me over the line to commit to it). Keep up the good work!

All joking aside, great video. Agree with your philosophy Karl. My bags are huge because MICHIGAN requires a lot more shit. Only thing I'd add is WATER PROOF YOUR SHIT because wet gear weighs 3x more and doesnt work as well. Buy a dry bag ya'll

Really good stuff. Other videos show 50+ pound "go bags" with everything under the sun with which you wont get very far humping over rough terrain. Much better to have a lighter pack with all the basics instead like you have. One brilliant idea is packing an older pair of shoes/boots as it is already broken in (you should have pointed that out). Nothing worse than trying to break in new footwear in an emergency situation.
