Took the HW80 .22 cal 11.4 fpe for a walk down the paddocks then onto my Crow shoot , the weather turned as norm , atb Dave Ratz WARNING HUNTING FOOTAGE......
I bought my Hw80 in 1980, fantastic gun, but foolishly sold it 5 years later unfortunately. Now getting back into Airguns again and 2 weeks ago bought a new 99s, lovely gun. Would like an 80 again now as well. Great bit of shooting there!
Nice video Dave, ive had a few 80,s the last one was Fac doing 21 ft lbs, and to be honest it was that hold sensitivity at that power it was hard to hit anything with it, i think they shoot better from sub 12ft lbs up to 16 ft lbs, anything past that it becomes hard work. ATB and stay safe :-)
Hi bud , i do like my .22 springers set around 11.fpe , my hw97s in 177 are around 10.5 fpe which i find perfect as it dont over strain anything on the rifle, smoothness = accurate shooting , with right pellet choice , ive had a few shots with fac springers and have to admit the Diana 48 was a beast but very accurate, thanks atvb Dave
Love your videos Dave. As always great shooting! I've got the 80K in .20 cal and it's been a great gun for me. Lots of crows would disagree. Keep up the great work. Warm regards from South Africa.
Many thanks Mike , good old reliable rifles the HW80 , as said i think everybody should try one once in their lives , take care and good shooting mate atb Dave
Thanks Dave. My Wildcat FAC in 22 is in for a service, so I've been shooting the 80 again over the last few days. You take for granted how easy it is too shoot a PCP over a springer like the 80. Hence my appreciation for your shooting in these videos. I shot a crow at 30 yards today with the 80 and did not drop it the way I would have done with the PCP. There is definitely a certain romance to shooting a gun the the HW80 though, and it always brings me back to springers. Horses for courses though. My effective range is at least 4x with the PCP what it is with the springer. Im 29 years old. Perhaps when I'm on in my years I'll be shooting like you. Us hunters are cut from a different cloth, and not everybody understands what makes us tick. Your videos give an insight into a life that is not popular, but well satisfying. If you're ever in this part of the world come and hunt some big game and you'll have a place to stay. Cheers, Mike
Its not easy with a springer but the satisfaction is 2 fold with a springer , ive been at this game for 40yrs and still enjoy ever aspect , thanks for the offer bud will keep that in mind , many thanks bud atb Dave
Hi Brian , ive been playing with a tx200 in .177 cal. very nice springers , just finishing a Original mod 50 .177 which im looking forward to finishing , atvb Dave
Hi Dave, I picked an untouched MK1 HW80 .22 cal` up a couple of months ago after a long search, - what a hunting rifle they are ! Compliments buddy on your shooting,- excellent work.
Wow Dave what a good shot you are, especially with a Springer, just goes to show that with a good Springer like the HW80 and good trigger control you can obtain accuracy equal to any pcp, well done sir you are very entertaining to watch, keep more videos coming :)
Pcp shooter's seem to forget springers were used and still are. Used my Diana Break barrel for year's. Very accurate good constant power, low recoil. Looking at getting back into air rifles again, the HW80 high on my list. Lighter than half the pcp rifles I've been looking at.
Mr Dave, I started watching your videos again. Is being a long time waiting for a new video. I hope you and your family are doing well. Cheers from California mate.
Excellent work once again on the carrion crows Davy.As the pellet strikes home and they squawk when dropping plenty of their mates go in a frenzy as they arrive at the funeral and some of course join them on the deck....Thumbs up from me...
They're iconic for a good reason, I think its fair to say that if you was in that desert island scenario then the airgun of choice would have to be a hw80, it won't break, it's always going to be powerful and accurate enough and no bottles.
Dave, I just found your channel and subscribed. I’m from the USA, so not (currently) restricted on power. What are your feelings on the HW80 vs HW90 for hunting. Smoothness, quietness, accuracy and power? Also, how much does the suppressor quiet the rifle vs the noise from the spring and piston? Thanks in advance!
Hi , i prefer the hw80 over the HW90 , no reason other than i find it more comfortable to shoot , silencers on springer only quiet the sound coming out the barrel not the action , a tune kit of sorts will do that , my 90 is 20yrs old and never had a problem so depends on spring or ram ....more options for the 80.....atb Dave
Thank you for the reply Dave. It looks like the 80 is the more universally lover rifle. And a classic. My next rifle will be an HE35E if I can find one, but the one after that will be an 80. Happy hunting and keep up the great work on the channel!
Excellent Shot(s) Sir .. I have turned 50 and wanted to treat myself to a Webley Raider kit here in the U.K for £500.00 complete but remembered how the HW80 s at our airgun club were the Beasts above all so deciding upon a K variant have found one at "CITY AIR WEAPONS (sheldon)" for £400.00 without scope etc!!! Great Video .. liked n subscribed!!!!!!
Hello Dave, loving the videos! I'm looking at getting my first air rifle and after reading a review of the HW80, I found this video/your channel. I understand that without a firearms certificate I am limited to 12ft.lb. None of the websites I'm looking at give the power of the rifles so does the HW80 fall under this limit? Also, is there a big difference between the .177 and .22 cal versions? Thanks mate!
Hi Bud , some say they struggle at sub 12 as they were designed for 18 fpe fac , but as you can see they love sitting at sub 12 , as for cal its all down to preference really , old argument that one , i prefer a .22 but thats only my choice , a bit on the heavy side but that helps with the recoil , but wont go wrong with one , good luck atb Dave
thought u were using a springer... i have a .22 cal crossman phantom myself (one of the better made ones compared to other phantoms i had). got it tuned to around 650-700 fps (cant tell really as per no chrony, but its stronger then when i bought it by a fair amount). roughly 10-12 foot pounds at 150 feet, crows and squirrels (and tin cans) are easily penetrated by the pellets. still trying to score a rabbit or 12, just cannot get close enough b4 they bolt. great shots! hope to see more soon!
Hi Leonidas , alot of times its down to fieldcraft to get near your target , or you could sit for a few hours just sitting and watching , after a while you willl learn there habits , makes live easier to fill your pot , good luck , atb Dave
I did a video about the HW80 too. This is really an amazing airrifle! My latest was about my tuned HW77 competition rifle. I like the Weihrauch rifles so much!!

Thks jeremy , these crows do go nuts after you drop a friend but they soon settle as there are so many they cant wait to jump into their spot, somedays , sometimes it is a blank if they spot you entering my little bush hide so i arrive at night just before the arrival of the sun , dont know im there till its to late if i pick my shots right, atb Dave
Great shooting Dave by someone who knows!!!!! how to shoot!!!! cracking shots Dave with a springer, personally i stick to multishot pcp,s for my hunting, mostly these days i use my daystate huntsman in .20 cal with H& N ftt .20 pellets , nice flat trajectory , with good impact power!!!! atb brian

Hi Neil , i have a few different cals of the Solo , i do like the older style of airguns , without a barrel band should be fine , i have removed mine on 2 off them , i would have another if a cheapy turned up at my door, atb Dave
Another excellent video Dave. I'm amazed that you get such good footage. I use a little Shot Trak HD x camera on my PCP's, but it can't handle the recoil on my springers. Do you use a separate video camera, or do you mount it on the scope? Keep up the good work.

Well done mate , take a few different pelllets if you can as some can be pellet fussy , run a few tins to give it a good work out to settle a little , good luck atb Dave
yes will do that have lots to test all my hw rifles like rws super domes and Crossman ultra magnums and umarax domed and the old eley wasps but to expensive to replace, so it will be fun Dave. this is my 3rd hw80 but give them away this will be a keeper to go with my 35e in 177 my 99s in 22 the 80k in 22 and soon the 98 in 22 plus my rm8 in 177 its not mine now its thee wife's cheers Dave atvb

Hi , I dont mind any cal , ive .177 .20 .22 .25 , they all do the job , fav is .22 always shot with one since i 1st started so its always my 1st choice , atb Dave
mine is +20 fpe, in Holland power of airguns are unlimitid // some data on how the various European countries deal with the airgun power question. No restrictions on power levels: Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Greece, Croatia (?), Serbia (?). Bosnia and Herzegovina (?) -self explanatory 24J (17.6 fpe) limit: Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria -this means any of the basic Spanish springers, and any of the non-magnum HW's and Dianas are freely available, but magnum springers need a permit. 20J (14.7 fpe) limit:
Good shooting, for sure! What scope are you using on that lovely springer? Crows here in the States are very wary. Enjoyed the video. Cheers from the USA
Hi Dave, out of all the HW springer range what is your favourite model? I’ve got a 97kt wood stock .22 tuned and a 95k .177 tuned, I love both personally. If I could get an 80 centenary I would snap it up!
Hi Paul , ive a few , my HW77 in .25 is a smasher at rats and barn ferrals , HW97 kt works well all around , HW80 IS JUST AN ALL AROUND RIFLE , hw95-99 good all around rifles , HW80 Is my fav , atb Dave
Hi dave good to see you back mate Great shooting as per norm love it when you do the crows i hate the bastards till next time dave take care and best wishes to you chris
What's a good air gun for hunting small animals like squirrels, rabbits and maybe even a bird? About $100-130. Preferably .177 caliber and a spring piston break barrel. I've seen some but I'm kinda new and I don't really know which ones are good.
when ever im told pcp's are far more suitable for pest control than a spring I always point them to this channel
I bought my Hw80 in 1980, fantastic gun, but foolishly sold it 5 years later unfortunately. Now getting back into Airguns again and 2 weeks ago bought a new 99s, lovely gun. Would like an 80 again now as well. Great bit of shooting there!

Thanks Kory atb Dave
Quality shooting right there. Some of the very best springer shots filmed.
Thanks Dave , it did shoot well today , atb Dave
Outstanding again Dave, - you got me wanting an 80 now atb mate.

Thanks Dave. My local air rifle shop has the HW80 with a silencer for £399 but no scope. Can you recommend a decent scope for a beginner?
Hawkes work well but try and get a one piece mount , just adds more stability , nothing to big , 3-9x40 , atb Dave
Top notch, cheers mate! 👍🏻

Thanks a lot for your reply! Wish you a great start into the next week :-)
At a good distance are you going for body shots.
I have a Hw80 in 177. I don’t use it much as I have pcp’s.
But it does drop the crows well. But only at about 35 yards .
I’ve not done any real distance shots with it.
I enjoyed this video. Your a great shooter.

Loved the video as always especially the two 78 yarders, keep up the good work and a laters to you Dave
Many thanks Martin , yes unsure a little but when the woodie worked the Jack was a bonus , atb Dave
Very Nice shooting ...Enjoy the springer .... They are my favorite as it takes more than just aim and pull the trigger ....
Thanks bud , i do like a outing with a springer now & then , just seems so right atb Dave
love the way you jump onto the springer and shoot it as well as a pcp.i try and do the same from time to time to keep me honest.
You are a incredible unbelievable shot unreal long ranges for a little sub 12ft pound springer
Many thanks mate , its alot of years work and incredable believe in myself .....or just luck...lol atvb Dave
Awsome video Dave is this hw80 in 22 cal and is it sub 12 ft lbds thanks
Literally says in the descriptions 11.4 lb
Outstanding shooting. Would the 80 be our first choice springer? Looking to buy another and leaning towards the 80
Hi Luke , i do pick between a few but the 80 is hard to beat , i dont notice the weight , i use a 97 & 77 also , atb Dave
Great shooting Dave by someone who knows!!!!! how to shoot!!!!
cracking shots Dave with a springer, personally i stick to multishot pcp,s for my hunting,
mostly these days i use my daystate huntsman in .20 cal with H& N ftt .20 pellets ,
nice flat trajectory , with good impact power!!!!
atb brian
Thanks Brian , i do use all sorts of air rifles , a little change over to a springer helps keep my shooting stable , a quick hour soon brings all back in line , atvb Dave
Come Dave give us all a new vid bud 👍 now down to re running them but god them 8o,s thwack em cheers bud atb Lee
hi dave iv just got my self a logun solo in 177 what do you think of them and mine has no barrell support will this hinder the gun in anyway
Hi Vincent , when im using a springer then i use a separate tripod for the cam , pcps i mount on top , thanks mate , atb Dave
I love your hunting. You are a great hunter.
Thank you ,atb Dave
Great video Dave, my HW80k in .22 is 28 years old, just had it tuned at SFS by Tony Wall. It's like a new rifle now.
Hi Geoff , Tony has a good reputation on springers , the hw80 is a air rifle that all shooters should try at least once in their lives , good luck , atb Dave
think I'd rather trust it to Paul Short , or n Geoff Bullock @ liquid steel designs bit more money but a fast superior job 👍
well Dave got myself a new hw80k in 22 with a 3-9+40 scope and will be at range to zero the scope

Nice shots, nice area and nice Rifle .
Thx for this good Video 👍🏻
Recently acquired an '80' myself buddy, what pellets are you using buddy, mine seems to do well with AADF's and H&N FTT's, whatever it is that you're using seems to maintain good down-range energy... 👍
Hi Justin , this one likes JSB Exact 15.9 grn mate atb Dave
MrDAVERATZ; Ideal buddy, pretty much on the button already then... 👍
All the rifle you will ever need, top shooting as always Dave :)
Always a pleasure Mr Gof , as you say the HW80 is all the gun needed , have you been out at all mate , dont let the grease thicken ....lol atb Dave
Just sold my hw80 had it for 10 years was still brand new in box too heavy and terrible twanger...well built though I'll give it that
Hi Mate , shame you had to sell it bud , the weight is a big factor , but im used to using heavy springers Ive a few HWs , like you say built to last , atb Dave
great shooting and vid dave. there dropping like stones mate. great to watch.
Thanks stephen atvb Dave
Dave what pellet does your hw 80 like or is it no pellet fussy 👍
Hi James ,JSB Exacts or RWS super field , atb Dave
what pellets you using Dave, just got a hw 80,hope for your advice on this.
Hi Binney , i was using JSB Exact Jumbo 15.9grn , atb Dave
what's your hold over and under in this video mate
Hi Rhys , most shots holdover was 2-3 milldot depending on what shot and distance , some over 5 mils , atb Dave
Hello Dave, is that one of the older models 80,;what pellet have you found to be the best, with thanks for videos , Paul.
I’m curious is this the standard old school HW80 ? And what is the difference from the new HW95k ?
Cracking shooting as usual dave, just how many rifles do you have ?
H i Gary i run out of fingers many years ago....lol atb Dave
Have you had any other springers from the past?
Like the Original 45 etc
Wow, some great shooting Dave. 78 yards whacking a crow is brilliant. Is your HW80 tuned?
Hi Chad , the HW80 IS STILL LIKE OUT THE BOX , WILL HAVE A TUNE UP OVER THE WINTER MONTHS ,ATB dAVE
MrDAVERATZ hi how many your air gun zero
@@MrDAVERATZ did sound a bit twangy lol, but the 80 is a better full power rifle than a chopped sub 12 that it wasn't designed to be , but great shooting and with a Springer 👍

mine is +20 fpe, in Holland power of airguns are unlimitid // some data on how the various European countries deal with the airgun power question.
No restrictions on power levels:
Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Greece, Croatia (?), Serbia (?). Bosnia and Herzegovina (?)
-self explanatory
24J (17.6 fpe) limit:
Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria
-this means any of the basic Spanish springers, and any of the non-magnum HW's and Dianas are freely available, but magnum springers need a permit.

What's a good air gun for hunting small animals like squirrels, rabbits and maybe even a bird? About $100-130. Preferably .177 caliber and a spring piston break barrel. I've seen some but I'm kinda new and I don't really know which ones are good.
Myusernameisabe try any gamo aurgun....177..1,200 f/s...good quality under 150 us dlls.
I am looking to buy a weihrauch hw80 177 caliber air rifle. Please tell me if the rifle is good. Thanks.

Thanks Remi atb Dave
your airgunning is on point.... top shooting
Loving your videos Dave , think my next rifle will b hw80 in 22
I cant even hit one of these! im going to upgrade and buy the Benjamin titan NP. Awesome video
If you could only use open sights, no scopes allowed, which one shoots better, the HW 95 or the hw80? Any help would be much appriciated.
