When your still on blender 2.81 and only realize the next versions out nOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW JUst realized this feature was exactly what I neededdddddddddd
wanted to add by using dots instead on line . with a textured brush ( can be as simple as a blured circle ) you can avoid the weird artifacts caused by the line strokes sadly this seems like the best way we can get soft shading now :/ iv been trying to do that using compositor but it just gets exponentially worse the more layers you have
I love your logo. I saw it today early searching for ligthing and grease pencil and saw it again now searching about coloring grease pencil drawings :3
Hello, great tutorial! I am new to 2D animation and I recently discovered I can use Blender. I wonder how do you effect the stroke to move slightly giving the impression its animated?
Did you change your settings to make your pencil more sketch-like? And your speaking voice is just fine by the way. Its professional and soothing also which helps the information to flow perfectly for me. Kudos
Thanks for the support! Do you mean the base of the drawing or the background? For the drawing I colored it in like you would normally color with a pencil. small strokes. For the background you can just make a new layer below and fill in a square. Or change the world color, but that's bit messy if you want to edit it.
yes there is a base material for me to create a "canvas" of vertexes (if that makes sense). Basically I just scribbled in a layer with as many strokes as possible so that there will be many vertexes to influence with the vertex color tool. vertex color only changes the color of existing vertexes with varying intensity, so having many vertexes near each other allows you to create the gradients and such. It's also why the process is sort of broken when you try to use vertex color on "fill" colors (i think at least :p)
Hi there! I have a question - I used vertex color with fill option in draw tab. But I cannot render my animation with set colors, only material color. What can I change to get colors in final file?
The frustration I am having with all these tutorial is like never felt before. Lol, like... ok I understand what vertex colors can do, but I have been checking everywhere for how to actually get to it and begin using, yet I cant find it. Like, every tutorial has a different way of getting there, but I dont seem to be finding it on my blender, lmao... Like I have been cussing for a while now 🤣
came here because i thought this was really cool but for some reason my tint brush isn't working:( the colours don't change no matter how many settings i change and i even tried recolouring my work but it's not changing the colour of my base...
In vertex color you can just paint over any stroke to another color using the vertex color pallette as in the video! Let us know where this isn't working for you
@@TeamMiracles but when I select fill and make a circle using vertex colour the colour of fill and the stroke is same. I use vertex colour so as to avoid making a new material everytime 😅 . So isn't there anyway to change the colour of stroke and fill differently
I must be doing something wrong... I was testing out what you showed by making a circle and filling it in by hand like you do at 1:10, but when I go to tint, it tints the individual strokes, so you can see odd lines going through the circle from where I moved the draw tool when filling in the circle. Hope that makes sense. Here's a photo of what I mean: i.imgur.com/sSlW922.png Edit: I'm noticing you actually have the same thing on your drawing on the face, but it's less obvious compared to what is in the photo I linked. And the hair is really well done, there's no noticeable stroke edges in there... How come that's smoother than the face fill?
Hey there! Yes we ran into the same issue too, it has to do with how many vertices there are to tint on your base (as far as I can tell!). I noticed you used a thicker brush- the thickness doesn't increase the amount of vertices per line, so making a thinner brush and filling it with more fine lines will give you more vertices to work with!
Great tutorial! Cool little animation too.
Wow, this is high praise! Thank you so much :D
Can you please upload a tutorial on grease pencil :)would love to see it! @Blender Guru
This channel have been blessed!
Guru is learning grease pencil from this channel I guess 🤔
This is one of the better, shorter, more concise explanations of vertex colours and palettes I've seen! Solid stuff!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching :D
I'm new to grease pencil and blender in general. These tutorials have been very helpful to me. Thank you!!
You are so welcome! We're happy to help :)
I’ve been confused when it came to coloring and painting in blender but this helps so much. thanks
Happy to help!
yes an addon to fill with a stroke will be good
Exactly!
Nicely explained, I like to see the in and outs, it helps to make informed choices.
Awesome, thank you!
Ahhh this is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for sharing with such clear explanations :D
You're very welcome! Glad it was helpful :D

Thanks for this awesome tutorial
Glad you liked it!

I also have a problem I can’t see what I colored in on the 2d animation tab I can only see it on the canvas or is that normal
Your content is great i like it very much i´m learning a lot thank you very much
We're happy to hear that!
thx queen
awesome!

Nice video now I can draw my Dark magician of Chaos

I didn't, but the smoothing is usually at 2- 5% whenever i animate in Blender, so it could be that. Thanks for the kind words and support!
@@TeamMiracles No prob, LOVE this channel!
Thank u so much you deserve a sub good job 👍🏾 One Question how do u get the base layer

@@TeamMiracles oh thanks I was talking about the background I’m new at animation sorry love your channel
I'd like to know more about the difference between vertex colors and materials. You made a base "material" not a vertex right?

Thanks 🙂
is there an eyedropper function when in vertex color mode
hi , thats a very nice suggestion;btw if we used too many vertex will the viewport becomes heavy?
We haven't noticed any lags so far, however our projects aren't very complex, so it might be possible with larger projects!
I'm confused. so we keep a stroke layer and another layer for the tint brush? where is the tint brush? is it on the bar on the left?
Ok I think I get it after rewatching it. Draw and color with Strokes, then use the tint brush to shade and change colors
Yup!
How did you animate the gradient without interpolation? Looks cool by the way.
they had to be redrawn frame by frame :') it was a biit tedious
Thank you

Hey there! Are you rendering using Cycles or Eevee?
@@TeamMiracles hi, it simply doesn't matter, in non of this engines there is no colors from this layer

Hi. I'd like to ask you what type of tablet you use to draw with. (You surely use one.) Thanks!
You are correct :D I use a Huion HS610 model tablet and its pretty responsive and affordable :)
Thanks, very well explained! Just a warning: your IG shorturl seems to have expired
Glad you like it. Oh, will check it out. Thank you :)
Is like equivalent to alpha lock in 2D drawing programs?
Yes! somewhat. But it doesn't work like just turning alpha lock on for a layer. It's a whole alternative coloring mode to Materials.
Hii.. can you please tell me how i change the stroke colour in vertex colour

@@TeamMiracles thankyou so much for the reply means a lot 😀
Well i think we need an addon that fill an area with stroke automatically.i think is not so hard to implement.
Yuppp
do I hear Hanging Lanterns in the background ? :D
The video was very helpful, but the lady needs to speak more slowly. She comes across as a normal talking person when I turn the speed down to 0.50
Hahaha heeey, yup will work on this. Thank you for your feedback :D
