Heard song for the first time yesterday @ Rock the Beach Festival in Helsinki, Finland... Hacktivist was easily the strongest act, despite the fact that there were such big names as Green Day, QOTSA, Stone Sour, Billy Talent etc... Still simply blown away by this one, previously i had heard nothing but Cold Shoulders. Times are changing /,,/

How do you get the sound just after the intro? It sounds like extremely precise palm mutes, is there any technology assisting it?
you need to pop your string a little with the pick,and mute it with your palm(example 1:00) and ofc,get the 'djent' sound (using tube screamer,getting mids and treble up aswell as presence, bass down) or just get axe fx or line 6 pod hd

I think you could get something close by palm muting a little further away from the bridge than normal (gives that 'djent' style attack), muting with your left hand between pick strikes, and using a noise-gate (fast attack, high threshold). For the recording I think it's a post-mixing trick using compression and a noise-gate.

In my opinion J Hurley makes Hacktivist one of the most unique djent bands out there. I love the rap & djent style.
Just heard them for the first time today, I think it's fresh as fuck and I'm an old bastard. I find it hard to get into new shit. Labelling stuff is so stupid but to me, my immediate analysis is that they carry the torch for underground foward thinking as much as (hed)p.e did with their first album. That shit was hard.. I'm not on about ANY of their other albums, but the first one was an underground classic. Can't wait to hear more from Hactivist..
