Arsenal Does not have a Martinelli Problem.
We have a system Problem where Players like Martinelli are not suited for it, the Manager and coaches have not improved him to adapt.
We dont play counter attack anymore where Martinelli better performs and gets into dangerous areas.
Martinelli is not a Touchline winger but the system insists that he be 1.
Best seasons was when Lacca would drop deep and feed him as he runs behind the oppositions RB and RCB, also the Season Jesus would swap and interchange passes with him as Martinelli would occupy Striker or Inside Forward Positions (Remember Ramsdale knowing how Martinelli would finish his chances).
The more we play slow the more we will complain about Martinelli, the More we Mix up and look for fast breaks the more we say we see an improvement.

150 million is ridiculous, far too much of a risk on one player that could use up your whole budget, get injured and give zero benefit. Newcastle are basically saying that he is not for sale or this is the starting point to negotiate from, I don’t see anyone paying that money.

Martinelli struggles to perform effectively on the left, so why would he be any better on the right in Saka's absence? While I understand some believe this system doesn’t suit him-and I agree that his primary strength is running in behind defenders-there are clear limitations to his game. At his age, he struggles to dribble past most right-backs in the league, exposing some fundamental issues in his overall gameplay that have hindered his development.
For instance, he often plays with his head down, making his crosses more about hitting general areas rather than accurately targeting teammates in the box. His link-up play is practically nonexistent, his dribbling and one-on-one ability lack effectiveness, and he doesn't exhibit the physicality or aggression needed at this level. On the defensive side, his recovery speed is a notable asset, which is likely why Arteta continues to trust him. However, these shortcomings highlight why he remains a work in progress rather than a fully developed, versatile attacker.

Our best super sub is Trossard. I would start Jesus on the left, Martinelli RW and Havertz up front. Trossard and Nwaneri off the bench is substantial; definitely enough to change a game.

Players who are “not doing too badly” and are merely “doing okay” all the time is not what title-winning teams are made of, unfortunately. No one describes Salah or Diaz that way. This is the 2nd year of players like Martinelli and Jesus having poor to average seasons but the C- summer window means there’s no alternatives and no pressure on them to do better. It’s looking more and more like Slot will win the PL in his first season while Arteta hasn’t been able to do it in five+. With City falling off the way they have, it will be such a kick in the teeth again if we let yet another team breeze right by us to seize the opportunity like we did in 2015/16.
Injuries have taken their toll, for sure. But, by the same token, Saka didn’t win us the games against Everton or Fulham. Those are the kind of frustrating results that are costing us yet again. Love what Arteta has done for the club and definitely want him to be the one, but getting a little tired of all the unfulfilled potential. If we end up completely empty handed again at the end of this season a real conversation has to be had about the manager’s position. It will be really, really hard to keep supporting him and defending him to my friends if he will have proved he can’t deliver when PL-untested mangers from ‘lesser’ Dutch leagues can at the very first time of asking. Let’s see….

Hey Charles. Starting from Brentford, we have Brighton, Newcastle, Man Utd,Spurs and Villa game coming up in a space of just 3 weeks. It's a very tight and difficult fixtures and we surely can't use every starting lineup the same so we ought to make some rotations from time to time. I think the Brentford game is the relatively easy game compared to other fixtures and considering Newcastle and Man Utd games are cup games Mikel will surely go with the strongest side. Overall, Brentford game might be the game we might see some rotations of players coming up. Maybe Nwaneri, Jorginho may get some more minutes. Also, our bench needs to be changed and pluck in some youth wingers such as Kabia and not 4 LB in. Total waste of space.
    P.S)Happy New Year Charles!

If you look at the matches that Ipswich have had, save for one, they generally have low-scoring games that, if decided, it is only by 1 goal. That their offence haven't really been able to produce is why they are in the relegation zone bur they seem to be focusing a lot on defence. That fell apart in the game against Newcastle (4-0) just one week prior to the encounter with Arsenal so I imagine that leading up to the match Ipswich refocused on defence, worried about what an Arsenal side might do to them. So it was a difficult task for any Arsenal player to make an impact. I think even Saka would have had problems. But in the end, Arsenal found a way. So it's difficult to simply single out and say that Martinelli struggled in that match, as everyone else did as well. Credit Ipswich for absorbing the attack like they did. It's something they have shown in most of their other matches this season.

We need Havertz up front, Jesus on the right. Rice in left midfield behind Trossard on the left. Partey should start at the 6.
They should encourage Rice to keep driving forward from that left midfield role. The last couple of games where he played there and helped Odegaard push the tempo, we looked more fluid.

Playing Harvert on the 8 cost us the title last season against Villa. Arteta don't learn. No matter how weak you think you opponent is like ipswich and how dominant we were at the time we played Villa at the Emirates last season, the moment he thinks or let me add a goal threat by playing harvert in the 8 position, we lose control. Cos Harvertz just doesnt have the ability to play the 8 effectively like a rice or Xhaka.

The issue is and will always be is Havertz on at the same time as Jesus. I think it's either one or the other. Can do both later on in the game. But not from the start. Yes Havertz scored the other day. But we does look stifled whenever Havertz is in midfield. But hey I don't get paid the big bucks to make the decisions.

I hear you, I really do, but I don’t believe Martinelli should be the main option on either the right or the left. He’s better suited to being a squad player. This isn’t necessarily about his age-it’s about the minutes of exposure he’s had to develop his craft at the highest level.
Martinelli broke into the first team nearly six years ago, yet in the last four and a half years, have we seen any significant improvement in his game? If we compare his progress to Saka, who broke into the team around the same time, the difference is night and day.

My peeve is that we don't sign these players earlier on. Then we complain when they become overpriced. We should be signing attackers early. We signed Henry, our greatest ever player, from Juventus Bench. There's talent out there, but we aint looking for them. We are looking for defenders. That's why our bench is full of defenders. Salah was a journey man that Klopp signed for 18M. Now everyone is talking Salah, like it was a sure thing. Who thought CR7 would become a world beater in the early parts of his Utd career?
What's the point of talent scouting networks, and all that if we can't identify talent that we can use, and then go for it early.
If the club has 150M to do business, spread it in 2 or 3 attacking options. Don't buy Isak for 150M

Let’s take it easy on martinelli - saka was there for Everton’s low back and we drew. Ipswich were actually lower than everyon!!! i was at the game and martinelli was keen but odegaard passed him the ball twice in the second half. One thing that may be hampering the chemistry is that saka used to take the ball on his left foot on the half turn. Martinelli being right footed has to come a touch deeper and that reduces the threat a bit. Odegaard may have to get to martinelli through timber to have a cleaner line to pass.

The thing about playing slow and careful football is when you don’t win, you’ve given up the flare and style that keeps fans entertained and at the same time they have nothing to show for it so you lose people quickly. It’s no wonder people are so frustrated and starting to question Arteta and Edu’s decision making. We need to win something this season to justify the borefest he cooks up every other game imo.

Arteta has been up agaisnt sheep refs instructions from fa and PL to send off Arsenal and disrupt them. It's no wonder Arteta don't put pressure on his players to catch up (thanks to refs dodgy decisions in early season) that most Arsenal players, especially defense got injured......meanwhile Liverpool are doing a walkover in a supposedly toughest abd best league. @Charles, for once totally disagree with your assessment on Martinelli. The issue with Martinelli is being too predictable and his pace is no longer the differentiator similar to Mbappe. He has relied on it too much and has stopped evolving his game. By comparison, Saka was getting predictable end of last season by always cutting back inside on his left foot and shoot. This season you can see he is more unpredictable , he can cross with his right foot, he shoots far and near post. Martinelli can barely dribble a defender... Finally the decision making from Martinelli has become so poor. I would give a go to Nwaneri, even Trossard has more variations in his game. I don't understand why Martinelli has so much credit from Arteta....

away at Brentford think we can expect Califiori at LB and Kai up top, with a more "stable" midfield of Partey with Rice and Capitán Martin as the 8's... OR am equally ok with Rice at 6 flanked by MM and MO

Before we surrender the title to a Liverpool team (who have had a pretty good run of fixtures and haven’t had any notable bad luck or sustained injuries to key players yet), it’s worth noting that we, of all clubs in recent times, should remember a team can look unstoppable the first half of the season, but still not get over the line come the end of the season. Current Liverpool team remind me of us two seasons ago, we were on fire until Feb, but ended up falling away eventually and finishing well behind City - and I’m confident they will do the same, all we can do is concentrate on our own results and getting points on our board.
For perspective, after 18 games last season we had 46 points (+1 vs Liverpool now), and we had a stronger second half of the season after our festive blip - yet we still didn’t win, and neither will this Liverpool team.

No no no no no to 150MM for Isak. Ridiculous. The market has changed. Only 100MM spent by Prem clubs last January. Down 88% to the year before. PSR has changed the landscape. The question raised by Manchester Cheaty of how low interest loans by owners to clubs will be accounted for is still hanging over the finances of many clubs, including Arsenal. It's just not happening and I'm doubtful anyone is coming unless it's a loan player for the right side.

I really feel bad for Martinelli. He's a much better player than he's given credit for. I feel like his issue isn't a skill or form issue, I think it's that the rest of the left hand side that he's playing with changes every game and he has no one to consistently play off of. If Zinchenko's injured we play Califiori. If Califiori is injured we put Timber out left. When we put Timber out left or if Timber's been injured we move Partey to RB, Rice back to the #6 and Merino comes in to play the left 8. If we can't afford to move Timber to the left we play MLS or Kiwior there. Have we even had a lineup on the left side of the field this season that is the same for more than 2 games in a row? Kind of hard to find your groove when nobody else can find theirs.

The lineup i believe we should go for is :
    Raya
    Timber Saliba Gabriel Calafiori
    Partey Rice
    Odegaard
    Nwanieri Jesus Martinelli
I have been thinking about the right-hand side and rather than move players, why not try Nwanieri there. He is a similar profile player to Saka, so could well be worth taking a chance at playing him there whilst we get cover in during the window.
As for starting Calafiori, its not that i want to drop MLS. It's more a case of bringing on MLS for Timber later in the game, so he isn't playing a full 90 mins every game and Zinchenko/Tierney could come on Calafiori after 60 mins as well. Im just trying to think of game load as well as getting a win.
What are your thoughts? Keep up the good work 👍

Charles - I know our opinions and thoughts don't really matter in the grand scheme(!), but what do you think about the option of Tierney, and playing to our current strengths on the left (overlap with Tierney rather than invert) and come inside with Trossard? We've got used to Ben White overlapping on the right side allowing Saka to cut in, but that play isn't an option. We know Timber and Partey can play that inverted role at RB, so rather than invert the left, why not the right and play overlap with Tierney on the left? That could work with Martinelli's by-line play on the right up front.

      @DavidSmith-eh7rs 4 дні тому

It's definitely not going to be easy to sign the right player. You think teams facing relegation or fighting for or already in European competitions are going to just readiiy agree to shoot themselves in the foot and risk the rest of their season? That more or less eliminates a fair number of potential signings right there. The remaining teams know Arsenal are in a bit of a desperate situation and are surely going to ask for crazy money a la Newcastle with Isak. Then you have to be mindful of FFP, blowing up the budget for someone who may not be your top choice and hamstringing your ability to get the guy you want in the future. Yeah, I imagine somebody like Kudus or Mbuemo on a midtable team might be getable but I wouldn't be surprised if Brentford ask for upwards of 75 or 80 million and West Ham supposedly want more than that. Hit the nail on the head there.
Martinelli was talent. Like Arshavin (remember him) the zenit st petersburg footballer playing as a 10 begins main striker.
Soon as Arsene put him out wide to accommodate the team, Arshavin kind of struggled.
I see same for Martinelli. Emery played him down the middle (to his strengths), but he got injured and Arteta came. Arteta let him heal before eventually bringing him back in new wide role.
It seems Arteta thought he's too good to leave out and play him wide.....but it's been too long, it's not his best position. Martinelli always look down anyways, not good for teamwork or assists. Last I checked, clinical centre forwards are the ones looking down at ball to smash it into the goal.

Unfortunately Arteta's stubbornness and too many passengers have derailed his project. Two years running we had it in our hands, all for the players and coach to bottle it away. Then this year, Manchester City have finally given up the ghost and we cannot score goals. This is no surprise. Arteta never invested in cover for Bukayo. It was inevitable that he would come up lame at some point. We insist on playing Martinelli who is fallen off the map when Trossard is sitting on the bench. Not to mention, you loan Sterling and insist on slotting him at RW where he clearly is not his best. What about Martinelli makes him undroppable at this point? Why are we insisting on two strikers that are average at best. Thankfully, he seems to have finally settled on Timber at RB which is a great move and MLS has been a revelation at LB. Our problem is the lack of a proper 8 and 9 on the team. I think Merino can do the job because he's the most attacking-minded of our deep midfielders. Declan is learning the 8 but has not acclimated to that position yet. Our squad should be:
    Raya
    Timber Saliba Gabriel MLS
    Rice
    Merin
    Odegaard
    Saka Trossard

As for bang average players, each of them has been at some point excellent in the premier league, considered amongst the best in their position, or helped Arsenal grow as a team from not in Europe, to title contenders. Bang average players don't do that.

Over 45% of our attacks come from the right. There is no other team that is that reliant on their creative attacks to come from one flank. Did I see it right with Odegaard’s first attempt to play someone in in the 66th minute? Odegaard seemed to spring into life with about 10mins left. Just as when he was injured if the creativity doesn’t come from him it’s typically an uphill struggle. I want Martinelli on the left and ethan on the left. I think it would work with mo assisting Ethan on the right. Best time to give him minutes too. Jesus has not been good on the right . coygs

Rice's passing is the problem. Play Partey and Rice.

I'm sorry, but I completely disagree with you on our attack. Arsenal currently sit in third for Goals For/Scored. We can't win the league with the third best attack (behind Liverpool and Chelsea). We need to sign attacking players or accept the fact that we're not serious about winning any titles.
