One of the best renditions out there and right up with the likes of Gigli , Tagliavini. Gedda, etc. Bravooooo Nice open throat mixed with great technique/breathing. That's how great singing is done.
John van Kesteren (1921-2008) was absolutely world class. I remember that even at advanced age he delivered high quality with an outstanding breathcontrol. I wonder when this was (and where) and how old he was. I don't want to guess, but I think he was 60 plus here already, which would prove what I wrote above about his constant high level till the end of his career. He still sang in 2001 in Ottawa (Carmina Burana), aged 80 !! Maarten S, can you mention the year and if possible where it was, what orchestra/ conductor? Thanks a lot.
Just found out that this was in 1979, so John was not far from 60, he was about 58,5 years. The Orchestra was Dutch with conductor Leo Driehuys (1932-2019)
