- A shoplifting suspect was shot and killed by an off-duty Pineville police officer who was working security on Tuesday afternoon, investigators said.
Pineville Police were called to a Food Lion on Johnston Road around 3 p.m. for shoplifting. An off-duty officer who was in full uniform in a marked police cruiser at a nearby shopping center near the Food Lion saw the suspect in the parking lot, police said.
The suspect, 46-year-old Dennis Bodden of Charlotte, was known by police for chronic shoplifting and had shown violent tendencies toward police, investigators allege. Bodden also had two outstanding felony warrants for larceny and breaking and entering related to the Food Lion where the alleged shoplifting happened.
One of the responding officers attempted to use a stun gun on Bodden when he continued to resist arrest on the apartment property. However, officers say it was ineffective and allege Bodden lunged at the sergeant and tried to grab his gun. That's when the sergeant shot Bodden, killing him. Both officers were taken to the hospital for treatment, but neither were shot during the incident.

since when is shoplifting a capital offense?!
Did u not listen to the whole story ? Don't be fitting your narrative
@@user-qd9yn8jd4nLet's see the body cam footage first before we come to conclusions.
When the criminal escalates that to resisting arrest and lunges for the officers weapon...while having bench warrants for felonies...
@@user-qd9yn8jd4n Libs don't care about facts.
Tell you are a shoplifter without say you steal from stores.
No mental problems anymore 😌
I have never seen any NAACP spokesman say anything about her people not stealing. These raists never talk about the beam in their eye as they are focused on the microscopic mot in the white eyes.
Well he won't be stealing anything else
Makes me sick how ppl always defend the criminals.. always the criminals jesus get a grip woman
You know anyone living with mental illness?? Maybe criticise your local senator for more mental health funding.
@pablohassan6897 yes and it is sad. The police officer that is out there protecting others wants to go home and see his family too. The guy went for his gun he did what he had to do ... Instead of saying thank you for keeping us safe they get why didn't they call the mental health hotline...
