    Are you using the original psu? I heard that the noise is caused by that

      Unfortunately I don't own it anymore.

    Great tutorial! Thank you! Just got a 09 and I’m over the moon. I have a few drum pieces. Linn LM1, SP1200 and now this. I can’t believe the sound. It’s out of this world.
    I learned that you got a 999? How would you compare the sound? How are the drum sounds? Fatter than the 09 or similar? I typically work with my Daw so the sound quality is everything for me. Also any thoughts on the Alphabase?
    Thx again!

      Hey, thanks a lot for the nice response! Wow, congrats man, the Linn 1 and the SP-1200 are so crazy rare and expensive!
      Yes I have a 999 now but unfortunately it stopped working about a month ago. When I switch it on the it gets stuck in boot up mode. I thought it was the internal battery which is soldered in (Aaaarrrrggghhhh...!) so I took it to a repair shop to replace it but that's not what causes the problem. But anyway, yes it sounds great (when it's working). The kick has two additional parameters but that doesn't affect the sound much so they sound almost the same, the snare sounded identical to me. The toms aren't all that great in my view but it is nice to have so many more instrument tracks with a nice selection of lofi samples. But also the filter was a bit difficult to operate, the 09 is a lot more limited but also more immediate to use and therefore more fun imho. Both great though. Overall I wouldn't necessarily upgrade again from an 09 if the limitation of three tracks doesn't bother you too much.

      @@LousyFacelift thanks so much for your answer! Appreciate it! I am glad your 999 unit is working regardless and sorry to hear about the issue.
      Thanks for the good summary on the 09. I feel that you mentioned a key word ‘immediate’ which for me is everything during either the conception of a song (song ideas inspired by sounds) or in production mode to use a high quality sound to finish off a production. I’ve noticed when there as many variables they could be geared for live playing but can tend to be counter productive at times. Thanks again and all the very best with all your pieces!

      @@LousyFacelift side note: I learned that version 2:09 they made the tempo dial dependent on the accent button, just so tempo is not accidentally turned up on down during live playing. I think same holds true for the reverse up / down functions. Accent button may switch these too. I’ll have to confirm this fact.

      @@musicxtn Well no, it's still not working unfortunately but that's how it goes sometimes... I still have my TR 8 and other drummies and grooveboxes.

      @@musicxtn The tempo dial is dependant on the accent button, that's correct. I cannot confirm the same for the up / down setting because I sold my 09 some time ago in order to buy the 999.

    I assume there is a short between one or more oscillator circuits due to them joining at the same output in a very primitive way.

    • @LousyFacelift
      @LousyFacelift  5 років тому

      Could be, I don't know but it seems to be a common issue, at least for the newer versions. I needed to get mine fixed after I bought it because it wouldn't store patterns anymore. The guy from the repair shop told me they tried to eliminate the noise but couldn't get rid of it all the way so they decided to keep it on a minimum level for the middle setting of the volume knob. It's really not a serious issue though. Can even serve as a nice sample source. Thanks for the comment! 😉👍

    I love my Jomox 09 despite it being a temperamental beast, the sounds are so great and in my view I prefer it’s Bass & snare drums to the Roland TR909.

      Yes, me too. I upgraded to the XBase 999 a couple of years ago and it sounds really close to a 909 but a lot more flexible.

    i love my xbase 09, but i hate the red push-knobs, they work so lumbery, sometimes you have to push them 2 or 3 times before it is recognized.. a known problem -.-

    • @LousyFacelift
      @LousyFacelift  5 років тому

      Yes, I know what you mean, I have the same problem on my unit even though overall it's in decent shape.

      @@LousyFacelift a time ago there was a guy on ebay who offered to solve this problem. someday i will open this thing and watch if there is a solution for this sluggish knob behave.

      I fixed them on mine, I just sprayed Deoxit in them and now they work like new.

      It sounds great to me but I think much depends on the firmware version how easy (or complicated) it is to work with. Even though version 2.09 is kind of weird sometimes, I really like the overall workflow and functionality of it.

      Hmm, interesting! I mean I never really kooked for a plug in so I'm really not sure, maybe there is one I'm not aware of. I also upgraded to the 999 some years ago and it's a little confusing compared to the 09 but I don't use a computer for music, so I never needed a software for it.

    cant play a open hihat and a ride at the samd time?

    • @LousyFacelift
      @LousyFacelift  4 роки тому +3

      No, the hats, cymbals, clap, rimshot and noise wave are all six bit samples that share the same track. They cannot be played simultaneously on the same step. This is quite a serious limitation indeed but also leads to a rather transparent style of beats.
