It's called Frankenfish because the movie was made at the time when the east coast of the US was dealing with an invasive species called the Northern Snakehead. It's a weird fish from SE Asian that can survive moving around on land and looks patched together so the media at the time called them frankenfish. 'Franken' was also a dumb scare word at the time for GMO food, which is why it caught on.
Came down to the comments to say the same thing, I don't even live in the US but I remember seeing clips of the snakeheads out of water which is actually how I ended up watching this movie when it came out.
I think my favorite bad Sci-Fi channel movie was Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon. There's a running gag with a character that just refuses to die where he breaks both his legs, crawls back to camp, gets shot by one of his friends, gets left for dead because they thought they accidentally killed him, and then at the end it turns out he's alive, and then one of the yetis finds him. This one singular running gag had my dad and I rolling and I don't even know why because it probably wasn't even that funny.
Back in the day when I was a wee child, I would spend a week every few months at my grand uncles place out in the middle of No where in the forest. He had a really cozy cabin with a wood stove burner in the “tv room”. We would go to blockbuster and rent a few of the worst horror movies we could find and watch them over the week in that cozy little room with a fire burning. It was great, laughed so much it hurt. But yeah, “watching horror moves that are so bad they’re good” line always transports me back there in that time, many fond memories. I think our favorite was a movie called “Skeeter”, giant killer mosquitos. Also C.H.U.D., Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers, he even got that as his license plate back in the 90s, so funny.
maybe the sequel will make up for it by sewing the chopped-up fish back together and reanimating it... instead of calling it Frankenfish, they SHOULD have called the POLICE and turned themselves in for whatever drugs they were smoking when they made this frankenturd. anyway, funny video :D plus extra points for the sleeping with sirens poster 👍
This unlocked a memory from when I was 6 or 7 years old. My family was watching this movie in the living room in the dark and I wanted to stay and watch it with everyone else to prove I was a big brave girl. The scene that finally got me to bow out was the one where the guy got his head bitten off. I ran to my room while my dad laughed his but off at the scene.
If I had a nickel for every Sci-fi Channel Original Movie based on the Crofton Pond Snakehead Incident I'd have two nickels. But seriously, I haven't thought of this movie, or Snakehead Terror (the other Sci-fi Channel snakehead movie) in two decades; my dad and I would always check to see what was showing on Sci-fi Channel on the weekends because we just loved the absurdity, cheesiness, and charm of them.
Growing up, from age 6-10, every weekend my parents would play games in the computer room. Their room would be empty so I’d crawl into their bed and just watch the sci-fi horror movie marathons every Saturday and Sunday. I loved them so much, including this one and Snakehead Terror. I have so many memories of this, Yeti, Alien Predator, Bone Eater, Snowbeast. I even got a Mali Uromastyx lizard for my 10th birthday, which I named Heatstroke after a trailer I seen for the upcoming Syfy movie. I love these dumbass movies, and this was a great video on one of the more prominent ones from my childhood. Good job.
Just found this and brought me back to being a kid scared of the Sci-fi channel. To answer your question about the name. As you said the movie is based on the 2002 snakehead invasion. The Media ran with the nickname Frankenfish in the headlines because they could walk on land and could survive out of water for 3 days.
@Priskiswatching That's understandable. If you're interested there is a Sci-fi original movie called "Hammerhead: Shark Frenzy" about a scientist who turns his son into a half human half shark hybrid.
Many years ago I had a bootleg version of this movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I love B horror flicks. This was a good one and I remember getting quite a few chuckles out of it. You could definitely do worse if you're into trash movies like I am. Yes, it's stupid. Yes, the plot is crap and the acting/effects are bad. But, like Bug Buster, this one stuck with me. I'm glad someone else watched it and had a giggle or two.
Dont think the title had anything to do with tying mary shelly's novel into the movie. Frankenfish were the moniker given to some invasive assed insano style fish that depopulated a lot of our lakes.
Hmmmm.... Given the details about the character deaths in this movie, I'd argue that you're safer in the water then on land when it comes to these fishies.... or killer houseboats....
Imagine wasting ur one chance on renting these movies because of the pictures. Thats how they get ya. As a kid getting dooped was part of the vhs rental experience
i knew exactly why it was called frankenfish when it came out. every news station was talking about snakeheads invading our waters and they kept talking about how they could travel outside of water. lol
Recently discovered your channel, it’s a great alternative to watching these hilariously bad movies. Btw your fear of deep water that you can’t see the bottom of is called thalassophobia.
@ didn’t have time to listen to too much but i liked Charles bonnet definitely going into my playlist, method acting was pretty good too now I’m just waiting for my girlfriend to listen to it for a final verdict lmfao
"It was pretty boring until Mary got shot with a gun :/"
That's it. That's the movie.

Yeah, what this person said

Sounds amazing

That sounds amazing, there’s something so nostalgic about watching these terrible movies that keeps me coming back haha
I saw C.H.U.D on a date senior year in high-school in 1985. Its actually pretty good! The sequels with Bud the C.H.U.D? Chef's kiss...
Theres a bad horror movie called goblin. The ending is hard for me to comprehend
oh my god i think i know that one 💀
Oh yeah Kurtis Conner made a video about that film so funny

kept my attention the whole time and I didn't even need my adhd meds, love the vid!
Genuinely one of the best comments I’ve ever received lmfao

oh don't get me wrong if I was 6-7 i would've been terrified too lol
I think it was called "Frankenfish" because another movie already had the name "Snakehead"... I've heard that one its even worse

I had this movie on DVD as a kid back in 2004. Good times.

you know it's a good day when Prisk posts.
7:40 yeah it's a really tiny thing that only lasts for a split second, but who puckers their lips when throwing up??

That makes a lot more sense, still wish there was some weird scientist experimenting on fish though

Just wanna say the thumbnail of this vid is magnificent 😂
You give me DiamondBolt and Mista GG vibes and I love it
I love that you can tell how much of a male living space you have during the intro segment
I HAVE A COUCH

New Prisk Video OH MY GOD I’M BOUTTA CUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Bro got it all over the screen 💀🙏
Maybe they called it Frankenfish because they pieced together a movie from a bunch of ideas and brought to life.
Frankenfish is common slang for snakeheads. Hence the title.
Dont think the title had anything to do with tying mary shelly's novel into the movie. Frankenfish were the moniker given to some invasive assed insano style fish that depopulated a lot of our lakes.
Should’ve been in a jumbo Josh costume
it would’ve been too powerful, anyone watching would’ve died on sight
Tubi movies always do that.
Like kong rampage for instance.😂
Hmmmm.... Given the details about the character deaths in this movie, I'd argue that you're safer in the water then on land when it comes to these fishies.... or killer houseboats....

i knew exactly why it was called frankenfish when it came out. every news station was talking about snakeheads invading our waters and they kept talking about how they could travel outside of water. lol

I thought I imagined there being a movie with this title 💀
4:46 I have a teacher that did that once. He was a pretty awesome teacher!!!
I don’t think there is sequel. I think that’s just a news story, because I can’t find the sequel when I search for it and that’s what came up
Yeah I was going to make a sequel video but alas there is no sequel.
Unfortunately missed the halloween post💔 Better late than never
Recently discovered your channel, it’s a great alternative to watching these hilariously bad movies. Btw your fear of deep water that you can’t see the bottom of is called thalassophobia.
this movie aired in Indonesia TV channel around 2010, was a good watch .

Tubi movies are always cheap looking
On purpose.😂
please make a video on the second movie ill give you mid day dome
I genuinely love this movie tbh and Snakehead Terror
So Sam and Mary go investigate the body of a dead guy named John? surprised a background character named Dean didn't come up and give them any details
If only Dan and Sam were to survive the movie would've got a couple more points from me...
Women scare me, fish want me
17:20. The point is hunting is hard.
Why did you have to remind me that this movie exists?
very entertaining Video! The Movie is boring but i enjoy d your Commentary
Glad you enjoyed it!
