- Seventh HPDE day and sixth HPDE event of 2024, and my first trip to Pittsburgh International Race Complex!
I drove 6hr+ on Saturday to track on Sunday, then drive 6hr+ back home the same day. AutoInterests runs an extremely organized HPDE and weather was great on Sunday.
This was the final lap of Session 2 for Intermediate, just about the only lap that didn't encounter significant traffic. I'm disappointed I could only do a 2:05, but I did lose parts of two 20min sessions due to passing drills and a third sesson to a black flag exercise. I checked out into Advanced later in the day (thanks Instructor Steve), so looking forward to that option in the future.
Regardless, I left a LOT of time on the track in braking zones and the T16 kink that I'd have worked into with more laps. That's okay though, because Pitt is a great combination of momentum and power and I'll definitely be back!!!

Nice driving!
Hey man! I saw a previous where you had rod knock. What happened? Too much track time for the engine to handle?
I spun a rod bearing, the most common failure on modified LF4s (it was tuned for E50 and put down 600whp). I think it was a combination of factors, but mainly 5w30 oil isn't heavy enough to withstand frequent circuit work - especially when modified and running ethanol. Drag racers don't see the WOT duty cycles and sustained oil temps that circuit driving experiences. The replacement engine is stock, but I now run Supercar 0w40 and am very happy with the Blackstone results.
Oh okay. I think I have read that before. Thank you so much for the detailed response. I came from an Evo X. I have been looking at the ATS V for years. I’m still trying to decide if I want to go back to the Evo or ATS V.
I also see they are being stolen like hot cakes. So that worries me.
