I sold Gold 5 for lack of bass and bought Gold 7. It doesn't have too much bass either, but already enough for me. I listened Gold 8 on DS videos and it gives the impression that there is a lot of bass, but the middle is bad. So I think Gold 7 is the best choice.
if you look at his measurements the gold 8 is the most balanced speaker from the series. 7 has a lot of peaking in the 2khz area, the 8 is the most smoothed out.
KEF Muffled sound seems pretty reasonable for small spaces, giving that impression big sounding one. Tannoy frequency curve seems more dedicated to a wider space and needs a subwoofer. Overall tanoy has a wider response and mid emphasis that does not give it a good musical character.
I think these comparisons are way too tricky . Placement of the speakers alone could radically change the outcome. I can hear some serious phasing on the Tannies, which I know isn't there in the real world.
Tannoy gold 5 separates the instruments better, KEF is a mix of sounds, but they are pretty close. Additionally, the Tannoy looks professional and pretty.
Can you help me with an advice, y have a kef htc3001 center, i think is a little small, i can change it with two options. tannoy mercury 7c, or B&W lcr3, whitch one is better?? thanks.
Both speakers are very good. The KEF are more punchy dare I say throaty as the Tannoy are more airy and yes, a bit thin. Neither sounded lost or strained in any sample used. As an owner of the Tannoy, I can say, they do better closer to the back wall and require subtle adjustments via their trim and bass attenuation controls.
It's a nice monitor but on this budget I would buy MONKEY BANANA GIBBON 5 is much more balanced and gives a real and clear picture! Mansin of many years :)
SD건담 relative to the original phonogram, Tannoy does not have any rise in mid and high frequencies, and KEF has an obvious failure. That is perfectly audible in the form of singers sick with the flu and music heard as through a blanket.
I could not mix with either of these. Too many variables to fix post mix. I use 9 year old JBL two generations old: the LSR 2305 - no sub. So I have ordered a pair of the Tannoy Gold 8, and I ordered a pair of KALI audio 6.5. Both of them are to compare against the JBL 2305 so I can get my mix a bit tighter across multiple types of hardware and sound systems. I am also going to order the Behringer monitor switcher and headphone controller to manage the three sets of monitors. I use an Yamaha MG12xu for the mix takes, but I have had to send it in before. Two months later I had to go remind them to get the repair done. I am now looking to try the latest Tascam mixer/controller. I use mics that are fairly inexpensive and have tons of coloring issues depending on the materials they use to make them. I will be updating those as well.
