- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Meryl Streep is the most honored actress of all time, with 21 Academy Award nominations to her name. In this second video of a new series exploring her many awards races, I break down Meryl Streep's three films released in 1979 and discuss her Oscar win for Kramer vs. Kramer. #merylstreep #oscars #academyawards #brianrowevideo #dustinhoffman

How long do we have to wait for part 3????? In the age of streaming, it’s TORTURE to exercise patience when waiting for the “next episode”! This is a BINGE WORTHY series 😍
Just think we have 19 more to go
19 more so far….. 😏
Haha, thanks so much for your interest! I’ll try to move a little faster on the series.
@@TheAwardsContender nah we can tell you take your time cause you care
@@jefferyjackson7708 granted with her staring in places please next year we might be looking at a 4 Oscar for merly
I live for you and Be Kind Rewind! ☺️
Same! And both of them put out videos during the same 24 hours.
Same!
You’re too kind!
What I love about you as a UA-camr is every film and every actor is always “one of my all time favourites”. I love it soooo much. It’s just a phrase which singles out the individual experience, but is said so often that it honestly encapsulates your overall love, enthusiasm and passion for films and their creators. It makes watching your uploads and listening to you speak so worth while. Namaste 🙏
Thank you so much!! Glad you’re enjoying my channel, Alex!
Another great video, Brian! I love that you are spacing these Meryl Streep videos apart....smart decision! There is so much to cover in Streep's filmography/Oscar history that one long video wouldn't do the subject justice. Look forward to the next Streep installement, along with other topics you are presenting!
Thank you, Jeffrey! Means a lot!
Another winner. I wish one day you could talk about F Murray Abraham. One Oscar for his superb Salieri in Amadeus, and then kind of disappeared with the odd appearance here and there. Anyway, great video again and thanks for your work!
Thanks for watching!
Part 3 no Friday!!! So anxious! This is a great great job! 👏👏
Loooove this video (but love Meryl a bit more) can't wait for part 3!
Yay, thank you!
Love what you have been doing with the Streep videos....great information in very digestable segments! My vote is a video for each Oscar nomination. Keep doing what you are doing...don't change a thing.
Yay, thank you!
Kramer vs Kramer is also one of my all-time favorite! Can't wait for part 3 featuring Katharine Hepburn!
Yay, thanks so much!
I don't think Kramer v. Kramer was the most deserving winner that year, but I do like it. The performances elevate the movie. Btw, what's with BAFTA nominating Meryl in the Lead category for this movie?! That was hilarious 😆
Yes, so odd!
@@TheAwardsContender although Meryl did express disappointment at not being nominated in Lead before the ceremony
Amazing video, can't wait for part 3!
Yay, thanks so much!
Love all of your posts and I appreciate your admiration of the art of film. Thanks for sharing ! 😃😃
You’re very welcome!
I hope part 3 is coming soon!
Will be after the current Award season but I’ll get back to it!
Yey! Been waiting for this. Love this series!
Thank you!
This is an amazing video... both insightful and informative. I'm not a huge fan of KvK, to be honest. I thought it was a bit schmaltzy, even for it's time. All That Jazz is a lost classic, and wildly underrated, but the biggest crime that year was Apocalypse Now not winning best picture.
Thanks for watching!
@@TheAwardsContender Wouldn't it make more sense to create a new playlist for your channel called "Meryl Streep and the Oscars"? It's not a bad idea at all.
Justin Henry was nominated for an Oscar for a film released in the same decade he was born.
Haha, yep!
Children nominated for Oscar's should be a whole serious of videos!
I really enjoy this series about Meryl Streep you’re doing Brian. There are other actors and actresses who should be nominated just as much as she has been, but for whatever reason they aren’t. Even if some films aren’t exactly received the best, they should be acknowledged for their performances. I mean, that’s happened to Meryl at various points where the film she’s nominated for an Academy Award for isn’t exactly beloved by many, yet she’s acknowledged as her work is great as is maybe some other performers, but that could be very limited regarding the highlights. It’s also interesting to see how she was able to win her first Oscar so early in her career when it isn’t very common for someone to win the first time or two when nominated. Of course, when it comes to the films up that year, I’ve never been a big fan of Kramer vs Kramer. It’s not a bad film, but it isn’t as great as All That Jazz or Apocalypse Now, in my opinion at least. Its defiantly one of those moments where people talk more about the film or films that lost Best Picture than the film that won Best Picture. Having said that, keep up the great work and I’m glad you’re doing some other videos between the videos of this series as while I’m sure many would like seeing you go through Meryl’s Oscar nominated and winning performances all at once or in a row, others might want to see others Academy Award races as well. Keep up the great work Brian and take care!
Thanks, Jared!! You’re the best!
She's wonderful in THE DEER HUNTER, as always!
Yes!
Dear Brian. I love your comentaries and your insights. I wish you would do a video on Joan Allen. In my opinion, no matter how good Julia Roberts was in Erin Brochovich, Joan Allen deserved a LOT of recognition for The Contender. What do you think?
@Luke did you see Ellen Burstyn that year in Requiem for a Dream or Laura Linney in You Can Count on Me? Burstyn, Linney and Allen gave much better performances that year than Roberts. I loved Joan Allen in The Upside of Anger!
@@paullemon5154 you're right. Ellen Burstyn was superb in Requiem for a dream
Dear Brian,
Ellen Burstyn 's performance was truly fantastic. I would have understood If she had won the Oscar. But I mentioned Joan Allen because she carries a dignity throughout the movie, even when she is attacked, ecploited, and underestimated. Besides, the movie was one of the last films I saw where lines like "Have you no shame, Sir?" still carry a meaning of decency that seem to have disappeared these days. I hope I articulated my thoughts well enough. My future question to you will be about Gwyneth Paltrow's win over Cate Blanchett, Fernanda Montenegro, and Emilly Watson. That was an outcome I will never understand until the day I die.
Great idea!! Would love to explore her career in a video!
Now I hope we can have the others parts ! Thanks
Part 3 is coming!
@@TheAwardsContender Yeah ! Thank you
As much as I love Kate Jackson I can’t imagine anyone but Meryl playing Joanna .
The Seduction of Joe Tynan is one I have yet to see. I can’t imagine I haven’t I love Streep and Alda .
Thanks for watching!
I liked Melvyn Douglas more in The Seduction Of Joe Tynan than in Being There
Kramer vs Kramer: Didn’t Mr. Kramer predict, as she walked out, that Mrs. Kramer wouldn’t find a good paying job? The dialog in the later court scene revealed that she was earning a good salary, after all. I think women in the audience could relate to that put down and would cheer Mrs. Kramer’s success in spite of despising the character for leaving her son all of those months.
Is this my Midnights?
Poor woody he probably liked it 😂
Hey Brian!! Great videos!
Would you ever consider doing a Samuel L Jackson and the elusive Oscar? :D
Yes, I’ll get to him down the road!
I just saw Kramer vs Kramer for the first time and absolutely hated it. Streep is amazing and by far the best thing about it. I just think it has aged poorly.
Yessssssssssssssss (deep comment later, first reaction now) lol
Cheesy melodrama Oscar bait "Kramer vs Kramer" overshadowed a masterpiece like "All that jazz", well that's just embarrassing 😤
Overrated. Yawn.
So why watch in the first place? You have choices
Also isn't in control if she is nominated
It's been a while since I've watched Kramer vs. Kramer, but I feel in comparison to The Deer Hunter (1978) the year before, we get a better sampling of Meryl Streep's versatility and talent as Joanna. She leaves a strong impression when she goes, she brings us back and holds our focus when she returns, and she just goes beyond the type of character that was written in her performance to make us sympathize and empathize with her. I feel that film deserved every Oscar it got.
Agreed!! Thanks for watching!
Meryl should have won at least 5 of her 21 nominations
Yes!!
Just awesome video!!! Was that really 19min?? It felt so much shorter, too short!!! Really looking forward to the next instalment!!
Yay, thanks so much!
Great video. Kramer Vs Kramer is one of my favorite movies of all the time. Btw are you going to make 21 videos for each of her nominations? I think she has so many that u could combine some of her nominations in 1 video like ironweed, A cry in the dark and postcards.
We shall see!
It's funny seeing Meryl and Goldie Hawn together at 18:33 !
Yes, I gasped! Long before Death Becomes Her!
Where did you manage to find the footage from the Golden Globes? I have never come across it!
I searched all over the place, then came across one source in a Google search, I was so excited to find it!
@@TheAwardsContender Yeah, seemed like you'd have to have access to an archive or something! Really cool you found it!
Btw I would love to see someone do an analysis of Tatum O’Neill, Paper Moon and Madeline Kahn. I wonder weather the Oscar might have been more appreciated and worthy of Kahn’s performance or weather it would have been seen as a repetition of Chloris Leachman’s win for The Last Picture show?
Great idea!
Been waiting for this part 2 like forever..I thought you forget it LOL..thanks a lot Brian 😍 and don't make us waiting that long for part 3 ..😋
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
When mentioning noteworhy Dustin Hoffman's movies until 1979 you forgot two that I consider outstanding: Panic in needle park and Straw dogs.
cant wait for a cry in the dark..
i really felt that it is very undrrrated..
Great film!
I had no idea Dustin had been this awful to Meryl 😶
Only choice. "I'm his mother.... I'm his MOTHER." The final scene in the elevator is iconic. Can't wait for the next installment.
Thanks for watching!
Can we have one Cate Blanchett and the Oscars? 🙌🥲😭😭
I’ve thought about making that!! Thanks for your interest!
@@TheAwardsContender soon pls❤
"credible allegations against Woody Allen"?
Yeah, about as credible as the flat-earth-theory
Exactly.
Classy that Meryl thanked Jane Alexander, who was very jealous of Meryl's growing stardom!
Yes, love that shoutout!
Kate Jackson in the Joanna role would've felt like a TV movie of the week. I recall reading or hearing somewhere that Meryl was considered for the Jobeth Williams brief role in the film.
Yes! Glad it all worked out the way it was meant to.
Please make spin-off channel focusing on MLS!!! I will subscribe and like those as well. Thank you in advance.
