I paid to have all my stuff removed, and in 2021, with a suitcase and a backpack, I moved to Queretaro at 79. I always used Rubber Maids 13 and 20 gallons to store things I was not using, I gave each RM a number, and I used index cards to record contents and RM number. Deadly to sell, I moved to a beautiful furnished Airbnb, that included everything, maid and security. You still must be alert and block your doors, against dishonest security maids etc,].
Right on time. Sold my first item today on varagesale just to test the waters in preparation for my exit in July. It was a ladder shelf in my restroom 😅.. It was such an emotional moment for me because I worked hard to build my space. I had to remember my why😌..and now, I'm ready to rock and roll with the rest of my things.. Thank you Adalia ❤
I’m moving back to Florida while I research what country to move to and I’m down to a few containers and I still need to get rid of 50% of it to move. Thank you for your video!!!!
I began my aggressively decluttering on April 17, 2017 and am still working on it. I've done a purge once per quarter (charity pick-ups, dumpster trips, selling stuff). I am close but have not yet purged enough to feel light and free. Adalia is so right about decluttering taking time! I've been at it aggressively for 7 years because of guilt and attachment. By summer 2024 I will have reduced my physical possessions to an amount that doesn't make me break out into hives with overwhelm. I will have reduced everything to just the things I absolutely love or absolutely need to be well. It's harder now because I'm now surrounded only by a bunch of stuff I really like so the focus has shifted from what I no longer need to what I can live without. It's the only way I can move forward. Taking my time has been such a gift to myself! It's allowed me to have the conversations, mourn the memories, be strong, be weak, be confused, feel the guilt, learn the lessons and feel the pounds (of stuff) fall off. One other benefit to starting the exodus declutter early is it gives you something to do! I don't have the money or means to leave now but I enjoy watching all of the testimonials and channels of women who have done so and are in the process of doing so. If I didn't have decluttering to focus on I'd feel stuck. This keeps me moving forward and I believe that by the time I'm completely done with my downsizing, everything else I need in order to leave will find me. In the meantime I declutter, I take Adalia's investing course and I attend Exodus Summit. This was a great video (as usual), Adalia. Thank you for sharing!☺
I'm 50. I know EXACTLY what you mean❕ I started decluttering in 2022, I JUST completely closed out my storage I've had for 15 years. It's been a Serious process. But rewarding as well. I always feel lighter and more Free each time I release myself from another level of dead weight, I didn't even realize I was carrying. Congrats 🎉. And keep up the good work.
I have been downsizing for a few years now. Even before I thought about moving abroad. I was just tired of consumerism and wanted to live a little more minimally.
Thank You for this Excellent and Timely Content, Adalia! I retired six months ago, and I am slowly making my way through my stuff. Yes, I agree it’s gonna be a while before I can declutter, sell this house, and get outta here.😩🌹
I’m currently in the process of packing and selling my house. This has been an area of stress for me. The family thinks I should keep my furniture because I always buy nice furniture, but I’m willing to hit the reset button and move on with nothing but my art supplies.
Ouch❕I'll have you Know... My fat back analog tv STILL used to get a Great picture on it, when cable was on it, ma'am. LoL 😁. Just let it go last weekend. Just left it at the storage, cause nobody... I mean NOBODY would take it. But- celebration is in order, finally COMPLETELY OUT OF Storage, after 15 years🎉❕
Neighborhood day care centers are also a good place to donate things for kids. Some may also have after school programs with older kids. Just ask. I unloaded some books, school and craft supplies, small toys, board games.
Hubby and I are decluttering now. Not quite sure what the future holds, but we don’t plan to make this current home our “forever home” so time to start planning now.
I use a method that I made up where I get rid of one pound of stuff a day. Or at least that is my goal. So far I have been successful on averaging that amount. Personally if I try to sell something and it doesn't sell, I almost always offer it to buy nothing group in my neighborhood. I think what makes me happy is to know that my stuff is not going in the trash unless it's totally worn out.In which case I will throw it in the trash.
This is so helpful! I’ve moved three times since my divorce in 2020. Downsized each time and have become very acquainted with all of these mothers to get rid of stuff. I’m thankful I had time to be deliberate and mourn the losses as I prepare for a season of slow travel in the next couple of years. I’m down to my last two containers. One has photo albums that I need to digitize and the other is full of my children’s items (t-shirts, sports jerseys, baby clothes, etc.) that I’m sending out to be made into three quilts once my youngest graduates in May. One for each of them and one for me. I figure it’s a practical way to capture their childhood memories.
This video and many others of yours was very helpful. I had a bookcase full of books and had no idea where to start. Watching your video I was able to find a buyback site that would buy most of the books. I was ready to get nothing for them.
I love your point of view, definitely is a way of helping the society while we thank and say goodbye to stuff that once where helpful for us. I think we should empower this type of initiatives
Thank you! I found your channel by looking for places to travel, then Ms. Stephanie's channel, then Ms. Roshida's, and so on...🤩 You ladies have inspired me. One of the first steps of advice I've taken from you was to STOP BUYING! I'm on the journey...one step at a time.
Good Lord, you must have been reading my mind. LOL. I'm downsizing each month. I'm down to the essentials, and I still feel it's too much. It already is taking longer than I expect. This video is right on time!
Hello Adalia, this is a great video! I have lost my job about one year ago, I haven't been able to secure a job in the US. I'm thinking that perhaps I need to downsize. This video comes in perfect timing because I need to get rid of as much stuff as possible. I thought this year would be better but seems like the job market continues to be very difficult.
This video came at the right time for me! I’m moving summer of this year and all I’ve been thinking about is how to donate or sell my stuff. Thanks so much, I’ve written down all your suggestions!
I moved abroad after decluttering, but I still have photographs and albums and trophies given to me for certain achievements in a small storage unit. My children and I culled over 8,000 photographs down to 2000 or so. Now, I am considering digitizing th photos, but what to do with the trophies? Should I just take a picture of the trophies and digitize them?
I am currently weeding and digitizing some individual photos, album pages and family documents for cloud storage. There are only 4 of us left and we're in different states. Even though my sister will take the quilt that our great-grandmother made, I will take picture of it so we'll have a record of it. I will do the same with trophies of those who are gone but will throw them away.
Great job on weeding the photos. My family took pictures of everything, it seems, and then had duplicates. I worked in a small archives and the focus was saving.... so it is difficult at times.
Dig into your reason for keeping the trophies. Are they things that you want in your life? Then they should be in your home. If just knowing you won them is enough, maybe a photo or collage framed in your new home will suffice. If you died next Tuesday, would your kids want them? If so, let them have the trophies now.
I have to say...what a fantastic video. So refreshing to listen to honest, sound advice that is not copy pasted. I'm in Australia and will look for similar organisations here. Love your attitude. Thanks so much for sharing!
Furniture is currently in storage and it can be expensive to buy so when I move again, I will take it with me since they are in good condition. Aside from that, donation and/or trash bins are definitely an option. Tfs
Great video! A lot of people don't realize but many crafters are looking for paint. I've been able to give mine away on my buy nothing group. I haven't done it in a while, but I've done curb alerts on Craigslist and Nextdoor before. I've gotten rid of used building materials that way.
Thank you for this video! I've been decluttering for years now as well. I need the time as well. Plus when a family member passed I took a ton of the stuff from there. Manly because of memorabilia reasons. It's a lot, but I'm taking my time as well.
Thanks for this informative video. I have an unrelated question hopefully you could help me with. I work as a flight attendant and would like to move to Mexico but would still be working in the US. I have been watching a lot of videos made by people who moved to Mexico and they mention that you have to have a gerantur to rent an apartment. Is that the only way? Thanks in advance and thanks for helping other women fulfill their dreams
Requiring a fiador/aval seems to be a big thing in Mexico City but not so much in other areas. That said, everything in Mexico depends on who you're dealing with. There are some landlords who do not require a guarantor .
Take what fits and is appropriate for the weather in your new home. You'll also need to ask yourself is keeping those clothing items worth the cost to transport them to your new home.
Free the Girls NO LONGER accepts bras but check the description for 3 other orgs that do 👙
Kudos to the sister that didn't let age deter her dreams!

This exactly what 2024 is all about for me! 😂❤

Books are so hard for me to get rid of. But, I'll try. Thanks for mentioning theatre companies/schools. That one I wasn’t aware of.
Books are tough for a lot of people so know that you are not alone

You are 💯 correct. I started last summer and still felt overwhelmed at the end when I still had sooooo much stuff to get rid of.

I couldn’t think of anything to add. Well, Best Buy typically takes ewaste. Call your local store to double check. Thank you so much for this video.
They do, but I think they charge for TVs
You must be reading my mind because I am slowly minimizing my stuff so that when I am ready to move this is not my worry.

I have a bunch of new bras I need to donate, but no one is a size A anymore 😅.
Apparently Days for Girls stopped taking them some time since we donated Roshida's but I put some other options in the description.
😂😂😂😂
This has been useful and planning to downside and I didn’t know where to start. Thank you ❤

Just turn your house over to a reputable estate sales company. They know the value and the market.
Any romantic prospects there?
What about your clothing? You know Black women (most) keep up and have abundance. How do you decide what to take abroad.
Take what fits and is appropriate for the weather in your new home. You'll also need to ask yourself is keeping those clothing items worth the cost to transport them to your new home.
It's sent to Africa, and Africa does not want it anymore.

Have you done a video on shipping items abroad once you've whittled this stuff done? @pickygirlstraveltheworld.
Nope. There are too many variables. It's best to find country-specific resources for that.
