Great video with great close up shots - always interesting to have these updates as I do not keep theses ants Yes I find it interesting that they don’t allow ants with issues to survive
Thank you very much. Yes I love filming up close and seeing what is going on. The beautiful detail on the ants is great to show people. Makes me happy to know people enjoy the content. 😃👍🏼
Thanks 😊 Yes I believe they are expensive overseas. I am amazed that you can buy them in Europe, the laws are really strict in Australia for what you can import. Thanks for watching
Do you know if brevinoda is bigger than pyriformis? Or are their sizes comparable? Is their behaviour the same? Brevinoda is diurnal I think, while pyriformis is more nocturnal. That said, my pyriformis also move by day (1 queen and 1 worker)
Thanks for watching. Brevinoda is slightly bigger I believe. Mine are more active in the afternoon and evening but are out during the day as well. Behaviour I’m not sure, I haven’t kept pyriformis before. How do you find them?
@@NovoAnts even bigger than pyriformis... oh my god, they must be really big! In my house the pyriformis are quite active at times, but it's random depending on the day. I could see a movement of larvae in the middle of the day from one tube to another (the only worker taking care of the transport of the larvae and the Queen acting as a bodyguard... very interesting). Otherwise they are more active in the afternoon and evening. At the moment they have sealed the entrance to the nest. I will make a video on them soon on my channel (I finally have a good camera to film) :)
Do you have a Myrmecia fuscipes queen/colony if so could you make a vid on them please and if not could you get one as I just love there colour scheme they look so pretty 😍
Will these ants tolerate isopods in their tank with them because I would like to have another source that could be in the tank cleaning everything up I thought that having an ecosystem of its own setup in there with the answers always a good thought but I don't really know a whole lot about ants just yet so a little advice is definitely welcome
That is a good question and it’s something I would like to try. I think the isopods would be ok but you never know. To clean up I just remove the mess myself as the ants put it all in one spot for me. Thanks for watching
Hey Novo ant, I just have a quick question I have a starting colony of myrmecia and I keep finding workers taken out of the nest by the queen and they just lay there and twitch about and some times (very little) they come good and go back to the nest but most the time they just die have you had this happen at all and found the reason. Thanks love the vids very informative keep it up 🙂
Hi mate, thanks for watching and commenting. This is very interesting, I have not come across this before, sometime workers will be killed and dragged out of the nest, generally the only reason I can see for this is if they are a threat to laying but unsure. What species of Myrmecia have you got?
@@NovoAnts I believe they are nigreceps but I also have a brevinoda and the same has happened with her first couple of workers, must be something I'm doing wrong I only feed them cricket's and use bottled water 😕
Great question, you can try and it might work but they generally need live food as they hunt and take it back for the brood. Bull ants are not scavengers but are hunters, so if it’s dead they may not touch it. Hope that helps
Some ants seem to do strange things to their dead... I've never seen a dead member of my colony of Brachymyrmex patagonicus. I have no idea what they do with the bodies.
@@NovoAnts i was always curious to start a bullant colony but had no interest in following it up. So i think ill try and give it ago now i found a queen. I found lots of good info on your channel :) thanks
These videos make me want to start my own ant colony.
You certainly should! It’s a great hobby! Thanks for watching
Awesome! I will upload an update on my colony soon 👍
Thanks and looking forward to it
I've just seen one of these giant critters walking around outside. She looked at me when I said 'whoa holy shit that's a big ant'
Yep they are huge! One of the largest species on earth. Thanks for watching
Great footage of these girls!
Thanks, they are very large which makes for some good footage
6:50 Mmm! Deep fried halloumi fries!
😂 totally
Man I LOVE every myrmecia species you showcase. I hope to one day have my own colony, they just hold a special spot in my heart over all over ants.
Thank you very much. Myrmecia are very special and unique. They certainly are for the more experienced ant keeper. Thanks for watching
@@NovoAnts always love watching your vids and I just joined your Patreon yday
I love you bull ant videos I wish I could keep one
Yeah bull ants are pretty special.
Good to see the colony is doing well
Yes I am very happy with the progress
Another great video! I love all the macro you include! Especially the macro footage of these gorgeous gals!
Thank you very much, I love seeing them up close, being able to see the things that normally you don’t is great. Appreciate your comment
I very much appreciate your content! You've been a driving force in my ant keeping "obsession"! Lol! Also, you have another new patron now! Congrats!

Thank you very much. Appreciate you watching. Plenty more videos to come. 😃👍🏼
Brevinoda aren't particularly painful compared to some of the other bull ants, but they can definitely do some damage with them mandibles believe me!
Haha I bet, very large mandibles. I’m not keen on getting stung but I’m sure it will happen one day. Thanks for watching
Nice video! Really love this species, to get them to the Netherlands is quite expensive. But i’m really thinking to buy them in the near future.
Thanks 😊 Yes I believe they are expensive overseas. I am amazed that you can buy them in Europe, the laws are really strict in Australia for what you can import. Thanks for watching
Sorry I missed the vid bro😅
I suspect they carry body parts around because they want to disperse them further from the nest.
Yes I think you might be right. Looks really scary though when they do it. Thanks for watching
Awesome video Novo!
Thanks bro 😎
love this species

I'm in the UK and the only available Myrmecia form a UK store is forficata but it's £230/A$406 :'(
Wow that is expensive. Myrmecia still cost quite a bit in australia as well but not that much.
@@NovoAnts Yeah and there's the chance of getting it for free by catching one if you live in the same country as tham haha!
Cool!
Thanks 😊

No not fulvipes
@@NovoAnts I’m talking about a different species

Is there any way to ship them to New Zealand?
(legal or Ilegal) ;)
Best bet would be to check out Ant Keeping depot as they export, perhaps even Ant Shop Aus. Link in description for both. Check though if allowed.
I think i caught a queen of this species this weekend.
