Expert here. Let me explain why Chicago did it and it's actually not bad at all. They are eating half of Rantanen's salary but that's only for the rest of the season. It means nothing to them to have to pay half of Rantanen's salary because it's just unused money they wouldn't be able to do anything with anyways since the team is battling for last place. Plus they get to move out Hall and his 6 million contract so the money they are eating from Rantanen's is not that much...around 3.5m. Hall wasn't going to be any use for them since they are rebuilding and his best days are passed him. They get a 3rd round pick basically for just a couple million for half a year. That's a good move for Chicago. Very good move. Clear roster spot, open cap space and get a 3rd round pick. You're welcome.

How in the world do you compare the Rantanen situation to Guentzel? Canes were up against the salary cap during the off season last year. They won’t have that issue at all this year. They’ll be willing to spend whatever is needed to keep him
When does O dog stfu just because his buddy Francis felt burned by Dundon? Watch the interviews with Tulsky. The Canes will resign Rantanen and Dundon has proven he’s not cheap. The canes got to Guentzel’s number just too late.

The Mahomes narrative you’re running with didn’t fit this game. KC had the lead and momentum, the only turnover that changed the game was a costly Mahomes fumble. It changed the complexion of the game. Buffalo was in the driver’s seat. It took the refs stealing the ball on 4th down from the Bills to help KC advance, not even mentioning the phantom flag just in case Buffalo completed the miraculous pass to Kincaid. Don’t have much of a problem with the Worthy catch, but the 4th down call was KC’s winning play. Totally got yall to forget about Mahomes bad fumble too.
It amazes me how many hockey people don’t now how the Avalanche organization has always been run. This goes back to the Pierre Lacroix days. You don’t talk to any of your players about potential transactions. Pierre would shut a deal down if any whispers got out in the press. Remember how shocked everyone was when the Patrick Roy deal went down. Not that he was leaving Montreal but that it was Denver. No one had that in their radar. Or how about the Duchene deal. People were giving Joe Sakic grief he was taking to long to do a deal then all of a sudden they pull off a massive deal. So no, MacFarland isn’t going to Nate about his line mate. If word gets out their trying to move him it affects his trade value and really destroys the locker room. Also, it’s good they made the trade early before other deals were done taking assets out of the potential trade pool. And as for value, they got a lot considering there is no extension and Milkko is a UFA this season.
Also, Rantanen held out on his last contract.

They absolutely did not get enough for him. It was a shockingly little return. I just can’t understand how another team didn’t offer more. You’re telling me that the Rangers couldn’t have offered Lafranier and a first as opposed to what they got? Makes no sense. Don’t roast me if you disagree with my proposal, Rangers would have done well if they gave up even more than I proposed.
They got a guy tied for 10th in the league in scoring who is under control for another year, they got a quality depth C, and 2 draft picks.
